Is Funky Kong Viable in Competitive Mario Kart 8 Deluxe?

Today we witness some world class Funky Kong mains on their quest to keep up in a game that was not designed for them. How much does the MK8D meta actually matter? Despite what everyone says... is Funky Kong actually... good? We set out to answer these questions today, by infiltrating the home of competitive, tryhard, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe players: The Lounge.
This will be a one off type of video. There are plenty of other places to find lounge content or competitive Mario Kart videos on the daily, and while I participate in these online matches pretty frequently, I don't intend to make them part of my upload schedule. This is mainly because I see them as background footage, rather than topics worth making a video over. This event in particular though felt notable enough for me to want to cover due to the absurdity of it, especially in the first half. I hope you all enjoy our experiment.
Since most of the footage was taken live, only bits and pieces of this were scripted. There will be some profanity throughout the video as such - I read a comment about this recently on one my streams, so it is just a warning. It'd be unnatural to modify our speaking when we're just hanging out in call. Scripted videos will of course, be a bit more professional. I think part of the charm here is that it was authentic though and the reactions were real. That said, I made edits to make the video not an hour long, and to focus on the highlights.
Sorry that my volume is a little low in the main call - there was no way to adjust it in the recording. All sound also comes from Jamie's POV. There was no solution for this since I didn't know which parts of Diogo I'd want to focus on ahead of time. It was a live react, so I just had to choose one.

Funky-swapping for Moonview might actually be a better strat than Streetle-swapping for Dolphin Shoals ever was

Honestly it depends. Streetle is more playable on other courses. This combo is boom or bust and honestly I think it's not even super advantageous if at all on bMH. These two in particular are just WR level players who put in many hours here.

if i had to answer the title, he would've been if the stat buffs didn't happen at all/make the Fisher Price combos better than they already were though, as someone whose main+favorite vehicle in this game _is_ Circuit Special, this videos makes me happy

Dude the whole room is Yoshi…. oh, and 1 Peach, 1 Peachette, and 1 Daisy WHICH ALL HAVE THE SAME STATS AS YOSHI!!! Nintendo gives them, what, 50 characters, and they play 4. They’ve got their nerd glasses on and are sitting in the library studying world record holders and writing biographies about their lives. Monotone losers I play those 4 plus Pauline, Rosalina, Luigi, King Boo, etc but my favorite is Pauline. I renamed my account AznYoshTed once lmao

I think Yoshi's the best character to have as a meta character TBH. All the color options still makes races feel a bit more lively than when it was just Funky Kong or Waluigi, etc.
