Before I became a Christian I was going to tattoo my husbands name on me when he passed. Holy Spirit spoke to me on the day I was scheduled to go. I'd already gotten a tattoo in my youth and felt ashamed of myself, but felt since it was in a place no one could see it I was ok. But since I wasn't a Christian it never occurred to me God could see it and my shame should be with HIM, not others. I didn't get my husbands name nor any other tattoos and shorty after Holy Spirit stopped me, I became a Christian. Baptized two years ago today.

This is such a short and straight forward message to know what is wrong and right; however, we live in a world where human behavior is selfish, and it gets worse with each passing day. To fulfill the desires of the flesh and find excuse to live in sin is easier than to die to self-daily in order to follow Jesus. Let us not forget, there is victory in Christ Jesus...as Paul stated, "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me." Blessings

I'm a navy retiree who first joined up in 1957. Many of us were proud to serve and got tattoos of the patriotic type, or some that said "mom" or one guy had twin screws tattooed on his buttocks. We did it because we felt macho. Years later after much embarrassment while working as a civilian for a major company and marrying a wife that hated in particular the one on the forearm. She convinced me to have it removed, which I did at a relatively high expense using the laser treatment. This was in 1995 that I had the procedure, to this day I have occasional pain in that area of the removed Tat. I'm repulsed with the concept people have accepted as normal to have them. It used to be only criminals put them on the neck, now more and more people are thinking this is cool. The bottom line for me as a Christian, I believe the "powers to be" and you know who I'm thinking of, is setting up for the acceptance of the "Mark" that is for an implant or some form of identification. In my opinion it would be no big deal for the ones who have ink or implants to have another insertion. It saddens me to see such sheep, just following along without thought.

The Mark of the beast is not about a computer chip or a tattoo. It’s not a physical mark that can be seen. It is a decision made by one’s self through freedom of choice. That decision is all about worship. Will you worship on the holy day of the Lord, and keep gods Sabbath holy as he commands in the fourth commandment. Or will you worship on a man-made day, Sunday, a day that pagans influenced the Christian church to make the day of worship. Satan has tripped and confuse the minds of millions and millions and billions of people. And on the seventh day god rested, he blessed it and made it holy. When something is made holy it is sanctified. Sanctified means made holy and set apart. The seventh day was set apart from the other six for a day of worship. I hope this helps. Read revelation chapter 13.

U changed me and my children for the better. #3 which pertains to this episode....I have many tattoos....I regret them but what do I tell God? Will He forgive me. I think the scriptures in Leviticus are rules to live by and others are for respect for the Lord. My children eat meat but out of respect they do not eat pork or certain seafood. You don't need to remove them to be accepted by God. We all make mistakes and fall short of the glory of God. Thank God for his mercy. I know many Adventists who have tattoos who either got them before becoming Christians or even while they were attending the church. The Holy Spirit convicts us all of our wrongdoing and when He does, repentance should follow. The fact that the Holy Spirit has convicted you is amazing. God knows your heart. There are ways to remove tattoos but that can be costly using laser removal. One of my good friends now just covers them up when he attends church. When he is in public, and they are not offensive tattoos, he uses them sometimes as a conversation starter and share his faith.

Leviticus 19:19-28 is dealing with pagan religious practices. The previous verse commands not to “round off the hair on your temples nor mar the edges of your beard.” The context of all of this is for God’s people not to practice the religious rites of the pagan nations. No one in your church ever comes to your house to make sure that when you plant a fruit tree that you don’t eat the fruit for the first three years, give the fruit as a praise offering in the fourth year, and then tells you that you may eat the fruit in fifth year (Lev 19:23-25) *Notice the speaker skips these verses when he goes over things that are still rules that are still binding and says “It’s in the same chapter, friends!” And no one checks your hairline and your beard when you enter the church on Sabbath and asks you if you are trimming it in honor of the dead. And no one worries if you sow two different kinds of seed in your vegetable garden (verse 19) But if they see a tattoo of a flower on your ankle you’ll never hear the end of how much danger your salvation is in. Tattoos have always been given in different cultures, in different eras of time, for different purposes. Some cultures gave tattoos as marks of social class, marital status, distinguishing members of one tribe from another, to mark an achievement, or even as a punitive measure as a mark of shame. In other words, tattoos have different meanings and purposes from culture to culture. In Leviticus 19, the tattoos being mentioned are meant as tattoos associated with worship of pagan gods. To simply write it off as a blanket statement against all tattooing, for any reason, in any culture, and in any era of history, is a bit of an overreach at best and legalism at worst. I feel really bad for other commenters in this video who seem to still be feeling some sort of shame or worry over the fact that they got tattoos years ago. If you feel it was a mistake, I would not tell you that you were wrong, but just remember the grace and mercy of God and you have nothing to fear.

I definitely agree that this statute of not marking our flesh is still in effect and part of God's design laws for us out of love. However Pastor Doug, I respectfully want to point out your hypocrisy. You say many times when talking about God's holy appointed times or festivals, that Colossians 2:14 says that the handwriting of ordinances or the Law of "Moses" is against us! And nailed to the cross. In this short video you point out correctly that the statutes that involve sacrifices are done away with at the cross and that is correct. Daniel 9:27 is clear about this, that in the "midst of the week" the sacrifice and oblation was done away with. Sacrifice meaning anything that involves the cutting of the flesh with blood (including circumcision) and oblations are food offerings. However, there is nothing in Daniel 9:27 that some holy time is not holy anymore. There were sacrifice and oblations that were also associated with The Seventh-Day Sabbath. And clearly those sacrifices can be done away with, with the time remaining holy. With some fancy words and fancy footwork you try to explain away how Leviticus chapter 23 that starts out with The Seventh-Day Sabbath as God's holy appointed time is separated from the rest of Leviticus chapter 23 where these holy days and holy appointed times are done away with because they have sacrifices associated with them. The fall festivals, for example the Feast of Tabernacles, is the Harvest Festival and it prophesies and foreshadows the Harvest of saved humanity! And the Last Great Day of the Feast foreshadows the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. Obviously I am not harvested yet and neither are you. All of the Fall Feasts which we are celebrating right now, if we believe in the statutes in the Old(er) Testament, are a glorious time to spend with our Savior and His Father! We definitely believe in the statutes, judgments and ordinances of the Old(er) Testament except that are the sacrifices and food offerings statutes. But you can't pick and choose the statutes that were simply written down by dear Moses as they were dictated by our loving Heavenly Family. Clearly it is written by one of my favorite authors, that Moses did not form any law. Evangelical theologians call Seventh-Day Adventists inconsistent because they keep the Sabbath but they throw out the other holy times. And the Ten Commandments are part of the "Law of Moses"! Written in the first five books of the Bible and then repeated in different parts of the Bible. There are holy times that are daily ( morning and evening prayer/ worship time without any sacrifices ) weekly, monthly and annually. They are at least consistent in throwing them all out. But most Seventh-Day Adventists are inconsistent in just keeping the daily and the weekly. There is no place in the Bible that allows the holy times to be separated like this. All of the laws in the whole Bible are in the first five books of the Bible which is sometimes called the Law of Moses. In other places in the Bible, they are just being repeated. We cannot throw out the Law of Moses just to throw out the feasts (moed, or better translated "holy appointed times") of God. His holy times, special times for Him to come especially close to us, His dear bride. They were not for the Jews and they do not get thrown out because "the sacrifices were done away with". In Genesis 26:5 Abraham was keeping the laws and the statutes and the judgments before they were written down. Even Noah knew about the statutes as he knew the difference between the clean and the unclean animals. I totally agree that we should follow the laws that were designed by our Designer for our happiness, out of love and appreciation for everything that He does for us. You shouldn't commit homosexual acts and we shouldn't defraud and we should love our neighbor as ourselves and we shouldn't mark up our skin or commit bestiality and we should allow the poor to come into our fields and glean and we should help the widow and the orphan and the hundreds of other statutes in the "Older" Testament. Let's be consistent and not be mocked by the Evangelical theologians anymore. Keep all of the holy days and all of the statutes in the Old Testament. It is a blessing that many people experience and many people miss. The Law of Moses ( which is the Law of God) is not a buffet that we can pick and choose and have a strong sermon on why. I pray that you will allow this post to be read by everyone who reads this thread. I pray for you everyday and the great huge responsibilities that you have and the massive amount of work for the Lord that you do. I know it is not easy and I know that you are under attack a lot. I pray for your health and stamina as you continue to lead people to heaven and salvation. But I pray that one day you will be consistent in your choosing of what you will do and not do in the Older Testament and the first five books of our holy inspired book.

Pastor Doug, I would like to expand on Leviticus 19:14, I do not think Leviticus 19:14 is meant to be taken literally, although we do not want to do those things literally in which it says, I believe it’s actually symbolic also. It’s to be understood more deeply than what you explain. We shall not curse the deaf meaning we shouldn’t bastardize someone that will not listen to the word of the Lord. And we should not put a stumbling block before the blind meaning that if someone is not willing to obey the truth, knowing the truth, we should not give into that by allowing them or aiding them in committing sin. It would be like ordering a pizza and having it delivered, and it was a pepperoni pizza, because you do not eat pork, you give it to somebody who will eat it. Somebody who either knows that you shouldn’t eat it, but refuses to obey, or somebody that just doesn’t have the knowledge that pork shouldn’t be eaten. I hope this helps.

to know if tattoo is sin we must first understand two important things. 1) what is sin?* 2)Why did God give us his "law"?* *Sin is anything that hurts God's plan and will, or our body, soul, or mental healt. I say this as someone who first read the law simultaneously with Microbiology, and Immunology books. *You tell your small child rules and regulations, not to spoil their fun, but for their protection. Like running into the street without looking both ways, and taking candy from strangers. The rules of the law are for our protection. when I read the law, It made sense knowing microbiology. Going deeper into studies of the human body I learned that the Ink placed under and in the skin layers triggers an immune response by your body. it's a foreign object and your body works to remove it. that's why they fade. While I got a tattoo of my wrench and rachet in the shape of a cross on my back with script around it in Hebrew. I was planning on finishing the tattoo by adding the script in Arabic and English. After knowing the ink causes an immune response, and in the age of weaponized disease and germs.. I will NOT be adding anymore tattoos to my body for any reason.

Finally...Excellent points regarding the dead. A gigantic amount of tattoos feature death imagery. Another large amount are done as a remembrance to the dead. It is basically a demonic addiction as Doug notes, almost no one has one tattoo. I also believe its a self- centered "art movement" that is based in nature worship. The big Yakuza fish tattoos harken back to Dagon the Fish God of the Amalekites. Most tattoo cannot be seen correctly or even fully by the wearer unless they look in a mirror. then we come to the real reasoning -self-centered ness. And the mirror image is reversed- a trick of the devil. Its as if the person want to take a small walk on the wild side, then the tattoo culture lures them in and they get more an more. We are supposed to be transformed by the renewing our our minds and nor conformed to this world. Back to the art movement, people believe their body is a canvas for them to create their imagery, per Doug's comment, that imagery is destined to fade. The tattooing trend is a very simple example of man's fascination with evil. I do like using more New Testament examples as most people cant handle the levitical examples..Jesus did not come to destroy the law- he came to fulfill it. It will be hard to explain your "heart" when you have skull tattoos all over your arms.

I listened to another priest/pastor talk about this subject and he believed that the Bible says not to get tattoos for the wrong reasons like to worship idols, the dead, and getting devilish tattoos. But he believed that getting a cross tattoo would be okay if done for the right reasons. I have wanted to get a cross tattoo for years now but have never done so because I haven’t found the right design. I want to get a cross on my shoulder blade where it won’t be seen unless I wear certain clothes. Not because I’m trying to hide it but because it is meant for me and not to blast in others face. Almost like a promise between myself and God. I want a cross to remind me of my faith, my strength, and so I’ll always be reminded I’m never alone. I wear a cross necklace most days too but I still would love to get a cross tattoo with “Phil 4:14” somewhere around it. I might not be here today if it wasn’t for my faith. I’m not getting a tattoo to worship that item, it’s just to remind me to stay strong and believe in Gods plan. It all depends on how you feel about it I guess and if done for the right reasons I don’t see that being held against you in the end but who can really say. Both of my parents have tattoos too. My dad has some tattoos that he got in the service and my mom has one with my dads name in the middle of it. God is merciful and God is fierce and mighty.

46 years ago, a dear friend took me to get a tattoo as a birthday present. She said "I wanted to get you something you can't lose, give away, pawn or get ripped off." I chose a heart with one wing. At the time, God was the furthest thing from my mind. But now? I wish I didn't have it. If got wanted me to have a graphic on my body, He would have put it there Himself. Most of the time it's covered. Once in awhile you might get a small glimpse of it if I'm wearing a top with a U-neck. But nowadays it's mostly covered up. It hasn't shriveled or wrinkled; it has faded a tiny bit, and the reason I cover it is because I think it could be a stumbling block for a young person who might be thinking about it.

I'd never be able to pick one.. I don't get it really anyway.. that saved me from tattoos and words on t shirts. I had a girlfriend for a short while that had them which was fine I guess but when it came time for her to get bored and wonder if she should get another I threw my thinking into the arena and wondered if there was any real point to such a thing plus the expense... So needless to say she immediately gets a big one as soon as possible and I add that to a stack of boundary tests and emotional blackmail schemes to see if I would kinda chase if she ran or scale a wall if she put herself in a high tower. It got old.. and frequent.. and shallow... So it ended and she became a stripper that was eventually diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and all the tattoos were backward badges of honor and markers of failed relationships that didn't survive the "will you still love me if" test that was the entire relationship and person. So I know atleast sometimes people are decorated with screw yous and verifications of the validity of their paranoid life schema. Abandonment insurance

Everything what's against God's purpose is sin. But it doesn't need to be a sin that leads to death. We all make mistakes and God still forgives when we repent. I think the Holy Spirit will guide you and show you what you have to repent upon. The Bible can show you what way to go. I was excited to see what I could learn on this topic. I personally do not like tattoo and I wouldn't encourage anyone to do it, but what about those who have gotten it and have now surrendered their lives to Christ? I would have loved to hear solid Biblical references against tattoos, but as you said, if it not a salvation issue meaning it won't stop a person from going to heaven, what's the point of being for or against it? Regarding your points: 1. Forbidden by scripture? The verse says cutting one's body or getting a tattoo for (in honor of) the dead is Forbidden. Not getting a tattoo in general, the context was specific. 2. Respect God's property. The verse says "Glorify God IN your body" (not by markings on your body or the lack thereof). What exactly does this verse mean? Is it saying we can glorify God by not getting a tattoo? 3. Modesty 1 Tim 2:9 The verse is about women's dressing, and did not refer to tattoos or body piercings, but clothing and jewellery. 1 Pet 3:3-4 The word "merely" is important as not only that. The verse did not say anything is wrong with wearing gold and fine apparel. The point of this verse is that women should not just adorn the physical body (outer man) with material things, but should also adorn the spirit (inner man) with incorruptible beauty. I thought it was straightforward. 4. Tattoos are costly Getting a haircut, hairdo, manicure, pedicure, going to the dentist etc are costly and requires to be done repeatedly. I'm not sure if this is a Biblical point against tattoos. 5. Do the safe thing There are clean, sanitary professional tattoo parlours, different from the ones you described. You don't think God will deny one entry into heaven if one does not have enough tattoos, but do you think he will deny persons with tattoos? I don't think so, because you said it's not a salvation issue. 1 Cor 10:23 My understanding is that the things that are not helpful are not necessarily unlawful or destructive. 6. What would Jesus do? He probably wouldn't get a tattoo, but I finding insulting that you would posit Jesus being nailed to the cross was the devil giving him a body piercing. Furthermore, the topic is tattoo. 1 Cor 10:31 How exactly does eating food or drinking liquid give glory to God? Could a tattoo give glory the same way? 7. Love for your brother Rom. 14:21 In another video, you said this verse was about fasting, now you are using it against tattoos? Rom 1:22-24 says "an image" it didn't not refer to tattoos or markings on one's body. These verses don't explain how tattoos shows hate (opposite of love) towards a brother. I hope my points and questions are considered. I believe as Christians we can opposed to certain social issues on moral and ethical grounds without misrepresenting scriptures to be more convincing. When we use scriptures like this, it only confuses one's understanding of scriptures on a whole and causes more confusion.

28Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD. It cannot get any clearer. Hebrews' literature is ALL about repetition. If the printing of figures on your body was also about the dead it would have stated so, repeating it. Even leaving that aside, and sticking to our times and culture, the grammar is pretty clear there : don't CUT yourself for the dead... Nor make prints on your body. It did not add : nor make prints on your body for them. You will seldom find something as clear and simple or STRONG (as you stated) in the Bible.

@@flonoiisana4647 No mam. In English, the use of the word "nor" connects the second point to the first. It is one sentence. What would be the point of talking about ways of mourning the dead, then adding a random clause about a general rule? The repetition is not necessary. If you understood the grammatical structure of the Hebrew then you would have understood that it is not a separate point. Also, if you studied the text, you would know that this verse is referring to the practice of the heathens who had rites and ceremonies by which they expressed their sorrow and grief at funerals. These rites includes cutting their bodies and getting tattoos in honor of the dead. These two things were also done to pacify their idols so that they would be good to their dead in the after life. Therefore, God was forbidding the children of Isreal from imitating the heathens in the way they grieved their dead.

@@adrianfaith2354 It links two things of the same nature : two things that are forbidden : 1 for a reason and the other one for another reason. If I tell you : you must not play with your dolls naked, nor play with your teddies. @@flonoiisana4647 Read the Hebrew and focus on the grammar, which should give you clarity. The saddest thing I see is young, beautiful women, whose bodies are all marked up with ugly tattoos. A young woman`s skin, and her hair, are the two main focal points for men. Beautiful smooth clean, soft skin is very attractive, as is clean, long curled hair. As women age, those tattoos will begin to blur and become unrecognizable and just be huge ugly patches on their skin. To me, tattoos are a trend curse that most will regret in the future.
