Good stuff . Finishing my Dnp from Wayne state university in Detroit in 5 months . Specialty in psych. Doing clinicals with MSN students. They wonder why people would get Dnp since they do the same thing as MSN. Told them don’t worry about it, they won’t understand it until they get into DNP.😂
@Rr23dd4 жыл бұрын
I will seek a DNP once the available options include hands-on care and specialization, something similar to a fellowship for MDs in Cardiology or other specialties. Otherwise my goal is to remain at the bedside, and not administration, research, or academia.

I have my BSN so I’m doing BSN to DNP. The reason is because I want to finish it quick And not go back to school. Lol.

I noticed that NP's in Cali have restricted practice. How is it affecting you in your practice, if that's the case?

it all depends, I do not see a need for it now. Maybe in the near future, but I hate APA papers haha. It all depends on your needs you are right. Plus you get the DR title, but titles are not everything
@LifeofaPsychNP5 жыл бұрын
I agree, there’s no need now, but for sure it will be in like 5-10 years. I might as well get it done now since I’m decent at writing apa papers lol.

@@LifeofaPsychNP might as well, plus I think you can just do it part time without over stressing it. A lot of my professors do it that way.

The Psych Dude what’s APA papers what’s that format, so basically more advanced education means just more responsibilities more paper work, writing and teaching roles? And of course the title or personal gain.

I love your channel. How long after you got your Master's did you decide to go back for your DNP. I know the first year of practice can be overwhelming in terms of learning and adjusting to a different role. What do you recommend? I know you did a video on what you used to prepared for for your NP boards. Can you point me in the right direction. Thank very much in advance.

I think the argument for whether or not it should be forced is does having the additional education result in better care, if outcomes improve for patients then it should be an absolute.

Hi! I’m so glad I ran into you’re videos you seem like you have all the answers lol but I’d like to ask, currently I am working on my bachelors in bio but I’d love to be a psych NP, should I switch to BSN now? Or stick to the bio? Thanks so much!
@LifeofaPsychNP5 жыл бұрын
Those are great choices, but it all depends on you! If you are close to finishing in bio, you can always just graduate and do an accelerated bsn in 12-16 months or entry level msn in 16-24 months

Hi. If you have PMHNP (MSN) can your DNP be in leadership? Or do it have to be in PMHNP? Thanks
@zincman19954 жыл бұрын
Just wondering, it seems that NP's are primarily the only ones working toward DNP's. I have my MSN but not an NP. Do you know of any nurses working toward the DNP in a different focus? Thanks

How much more time will DNP take you to finish? 2.5 years for MSN and I'm assuming another 2-3 years for DNP?

For me I am currently doing it part-time so it is 2 years, but if you are willing to do it full time, it’ll take a year after msn

Do you think that as a new grad with a psych DNP, you’d have a better chance at negotiating a high pay rate? Over a new grad with a masters degree?

I think right now there hasn’t been a difference in pay, but I did get a job because i was in DNP school and had that competitive edge

I’m still in BSN program but I’m already thinking of grad school. I know you mentioned being grandfathered in but can someone confirm if the DNP is the new required standard?

It’s not required right now, I’m not sure about the future. The DNP is required for CRNAs tho by 2025 I think.

isn't that change happening in 2025 tho. wouldn't it make sense to get the NP specifically because u WILL be grandfathered in if you can get the MA before then. as apposed to waiting and actually having no choice but to get the dnp. maybe the "grandfathering in" needs clarification how that will go down. at least that was how I planned to approach it reading in on that in 2018. im all for higher ed, but also seems like the dnp becomes removed from the practitioner role in the curriculum. it basically is a phd. so if u feel it would help with marketing, I suppose that is the only reason. I don't think they would actually stop reimbursing, due to the cost of the doctoral program. the laws of each state are so unique it seems to really depend. in Alaska for example, u can start practicing right away out of 2 yr school. a stretch but.. when you compare that with the extra time. will it make any difference if you start working in right out of school in a Arizona or rhode island for example. you probably are right, maybe another video on what else someone can do with the DNP could be useful.
@LifeofaPsychNP5 жыл бұрын
yeah, alot of what i mentioned are somewhat rumors from what i read on PMHNP forums, but you def made valid points. I am strictly doing it for my personal reasons and it being a terminal degree. Thank you for your thoughts!

Everything I have heard, everyone I have talked to says that the DNP is for personal growth for the most part. There is little professional gain unless you want to get academics.
@LifeofaPsychNP5 жыл бұрын
yes, majority is for personal growth and for teaching, but ive also heard that some people are requiring it to get promoted.
@David-fv7zg5 жыл бұрын
@@LifeofaPsychNP That is a negligible population. A DNP is not nesessary to practice at all. If you want to be more involved with admin then there may be some benefit.
@LifeofaPsychNP5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it one of those things you can do based on what you want in the long run. I chose to do it for personal reasons and possible switch in Nps requiring to have a doctorate, similar to how CRNAs need it soon.
@David-fv7zg5 жыл бұрын
@@LifeofaPsychNP I agree with the first half of your statement, personal growth is fine. The DNP will likey be entry level practice for those entering after a specific time, 2030? Those of us already practicing will not have this requirement and still be able to maintain practice. I would not agree with you statement eluding that you will need it for future practice.
@LifeofaPsychNP5 жыл бұрын
@@David-fv7zg ohh my statement was more of a blanket statement for those thinking about going through with getting a DNP in the future, if they arent already practicing. If i were to look at getting my MSN or DNP right now with the price and time being the same, im going DNP. Yeah, of course we will be grandfathered in right now, but who knows how reimbursement and insurance credentialing will be like in the future if they do mandate it. The MSN vs DNP debate is soo similar to adn vs bsn. haha
