Hi I have a difficult question. I’m enrolled to start my PMHNP at Purdue global in September. I have a dilemma though. I am fluent in Polish. My old PCP retired and the son took over a family practice. He is 42 years old, I am 40. The practice is in my old neighborhood in Philadelphia and there are a lot of polish speaking people here. Him and I joked around for years that it would be great if I worked at the practice if I ever become an FNP. He basically offered me a position a few weeks ago with 130k salary starting w/ full benefits and malpractice paid for. I feel like this would be ideal for me with my fluency in polish. Should I switch to FNP or stay to start psych? He is really interested in me and this job wouldn’t probably be as near as stressful as psych. Your thoughts please.

I really want to enroll in a Psych NP program. I, however, have a Cardiovascular surgery nursing background. I don't know if I could be accepted into. Any advice?

In Australia you need to first be an RN and then gather 4 years full time experience in your specialty (2 of which has to be an advanced role). Then you qualify to enrol into NP school. Here we only have about 2200 NPs nation wide!

I think it is not right for these schools to let in students who do not have any experience as a Psyvh RN! My school required it, but it was a long time ago so I don’t remember the number of years required. Employers are telling the new grads to go be a Psych RN for a few years! As for the money- some of the RNs on our unit make more or about the same as I do. They get holiday and overtime pay. I’m salary. However, I love my job. I feel I make an impact and do have autonomy and flexibility. I’ve been PMHNP for over 11 years and just wish I had done it sooner! There are many PMHNPs but due to many being new grads there are so many jobs out there! I get info every day- calls, emails, texts, etc. I think we are finally proving our worth that employers see the benefit and hiring more of us. 😊. Hopefully they will start paying us appropriately for all the work we do.

I love being a PMHNP but burn out is prevalent if you do not have the adequate resources. I do not have therapy to support my patient panel. I am expected to see a certain amount of patients per day. We are not allowed to charge for therapy, only medication management.

Thanks for the insight. I’m finishing up my BSN in a few months and plan to work in psych and ER. Do you think it’s worth doing a BSN-DNP later down the line? Or get my masters in a few years? I’m not sure what route to take
@mrhouse122 ай бұрын
Similar situation. From what I’ve read online, it seems like people agree the DNP isn’t really worth it. If a pmhnp DNP becomes required like CRNA, you would probably grandfathered in like MSN CRNAs were.
@Dhilanjam182 ай бұрын
@@mrhouse12 Thanks for sharing. I didn’t even think about that. MSN CRNAs are definitely grandfathered in. I guess we’ll see where we end up down the line. Best of luck!

kind of doing a disservice to the profession pitching the fact that you can "work from home". Diploma mills are pumping out money hungry, green providers that are thinking it's a get rich quick, start a private practice, work from home profession. Most of them don't know WTF they're doing.
@LifeofaPsychNP2 ай бұрын
There are many careers where you can work from home and I’m not necessarily hiding anything since this is well know but I totally agree with the diploma mills pumping out individuals who aren’t ready

@Kwicdrawmcgraw2 ай бұрын
No it's not if you did it the correct way and worked as a psych nurse. You should have multiple preceptors in mind. Now if you came from the floor with no psych experience that's on you.

Unfortunately it has been more difficulty for individuals to find a preceptor but if you are able to network while getting experience , it goes a long way
