More importantly, Sharur's insights on some of the systemic problems with the reviewer/OEM/consumer ecosystem are an important thing for audio enthusiasts to be aware of and be careful about. Many people don't want the objective truth to be told about their gear, they want to be lied to, justifying their purchase decisions. However, there are other innocent people who really need to be very conservative and wise about where they spend money and who can fall victim to dishonesty from reviewers. The FTC and publication platforms like YT have rules around needing to label videos as paid sponsorships, but the definition of "payment" begins to evaporate when someone is given a piece of gear for the purposes of reviewing it. Further contributing to the haze of confusion is how the ability for someone to be objective also evaporates for folks like the Honest Audiophile that might have themselves fooled into thinking that their listening capabilities can hear differences that don't actually exist. Auditory hallucinations are real! Trust the measurement data!

@sharuraudio Жыл бұрын
For IEMs it's like 95% accurate because pinna interaction isn't considered but you should also keep in mind that most individual variability happens past the blocked entrance, so this also does not matter much. A peak on the graph will be a peak in real life aside from a select few circumstances like the ~8 kHz peak you commonly see on IEC711 measurements.

I can't think of a single way Timmy is betraying his community. He can be quite negative on some products, and very excited about others. Rather healthy balance. He provides concise reviews mentioning what's good or bad, quick helpful comparisons... And since it's very time consuming to run a YT channel, finding ways to monetize his time makes sense to me. After all, affiliate links are rather harmless. No pressure to click on them whatsoever! As for your attitude towards this hobby, not sure how helpful it is to call 99% of products garbage. Maybe it can boost your ego. But if the industry is so bad, how about making your own iem's and showing the world how it's done?! Just my two cents.

I think he might just be informal talking to friends and say something is shyet and then in a video simply describe it negatively in a well mannered way. That's still being honest and genuine as far as I'm concerned. The fact that he puts affiliate links for everything mentioned is obviously a source of revenue, but it's not forcing anyone to buy. Good points. And yet if everyone was as cheap with audio as I am this hobby would cease to be period. The way I see it, appreciate those rich dudes building 10,000 dollar headphone setups, or 100,000* dollar stereo setups, because they are literally funding further research and development into audio. That goes for the kids buying the hottest bluetooth or IEM for hundred bucks every couple months as well, which is arguably an even larger market. I still have my cheap headphones from the 90s, I can tell you that a 30-40 dollar IEM blows them out of the water today. A more interesting question would be if some of the more expensive headphones from the past (HD600 from 1997 and beyerdynamics) could be spotted in a blind test with modern gear of the same price point, or even above it. Maybe not, but I do think products in the 100-200 dollar range are getting damn close. The arms race has begun, it may be covered in a load of marketing doublespeak but it is there, and we just happen to be here near the beginning.

I's important to know your own preferences and take advices with a big grain of salt. Something that can be overviewed by your fav reviewer can be a deal breaker for you. Remember also his audience is composed of the brands that decide to send review units. If all the suddent yt Chillers maintain honesty and point out the product flaws then it will end the freegifts. Crinacle already pointed the issue in his video on affiliate links, I recommend everybody to check out to understand how it affect reviewers. Now, We need community peoples to do the reviews in order to keep the standard of sound high and push things in the right direction, if reviewers do poor jobs it take the quality of future items down.

Nice video sharur, there's no right or wrong to smoothening opinion tbh, I see a video on your channel where you acted like you are about to vomit, that's overreacting man... Timmy I feel does the right amount, for example, he voices out the exact way I felt about the empire ears bravado mkii, which is to say that if there's truly a bad iem, he will say it without a problem. We also have to remember that this hobby is subjective, and reviewers try to be objective a bit despite subjectiveness, so it's a mix of both really, trying to show their takes on both sides, so, expecting them to completely shit on an iem when it could actually appeal to a rare minority of people would be detrimental tbh... The video has a good message but I don't think Timmy is completely sugar coating his words either. Expecting that ling long review from ye.

Did I just see tears in Sharur's eyes? Perhaps Giz is unable to use 'honesty' since that virtue is patented to someone else! I do like Timmy's reviews though. Anyways, this is what I have observed first hand, there is always a difference on what reviewers say on record vs what their actual opinion is privately. Worse, sometimes they even forget what they have said online. This doesn't generate confidence at all. I once saw an online review of some noise cancelling headphones and reviewer saying good things about the ANC (which is justified) and also raving its sound quality! I happened to meet him in an event and just casually asked him about the same headphone and he completely trashed them. Conflict of interest is killing this hobby turning it into a nasty business.

I don't get it. You said you attend Stanford, so I'm going to assume you're smart (or at least not born yesterday). Are you telling me there's a difference between a "career reviewer" and a "hobbyist reviewer", and that one kind has to be more commercially conscious than the other? Shocker. Some review channels are doing it to pay the bills and their livelihoods depend on views and affiliate links, so they're going to present their views in a "non-offensive" and "middle-of-the-road" style. On the other hand, there are hobbyist review channels that are doing it just for the love of the hobby, and they have the freedom to say whatever they want, regardless of how many people their content might benefit, so they can afford to take on a more "free spirited" presentation style. You have different review channels with different profit motives, and I assume that everyone on KZbin -- who wasn't born yesterday -- already knows. Bottom line is ... why would you even think that a social platform like KZbin, Facebook, LinkedIn, or anything else is interested in presenting "truth" and "information"? These are profit maximizing platforms, whose main goal is to capture attention and extract ad revenue; the fact that they sometimes provide good information is completely accidentally. If you're looking for "truth" on social platforms, I think that's just a socially and politically naive expectation. If you're going to question the credibility of a KZbin channel, all you have to do is present some specific examples and data points, and the audience will be able to judge for themselves. But if all you have is the observation that their presentation style is not offensive enough, or they're posting too many affiliate links ... then I don't think you understand how KZbin works, and you're trying to impose a moral standard on KZbin that's impractical to meet (given its diversity of profit motives).

Not sure what you're saying exactly, but if you understand how technology is built, you'll see that the same thing innovation which allows two guys in a garage to start a search engine is the thing that allows for small HiFi OEMs to produce a quality product for less money than companies like Sennheiser spend on wasteful tail-chasing R&D and influencer payouts.

You gained even more credibility by not caring about revenue. Keep calling out other channels like this. I knew Gizaudio was not honest without even seeing his DMs. saying he smoothed things 100x is not an exaggeration. Basically he makes everything sound good. My question is how he chummed up to you. He was a prime target for you, but for some reason, he got to you first? How did he do that?
