There was no prophesy required. The same bullshit has affected every generation of humans; we just apply the same ridiculous notion that we, who can't govern our individual lives without at least semi-monthly crises, should save everyone except our own sorry asses. This notion is simply applied to new tech, with the same results.

I am for being good stewards, but George was certainly correct about arrogance. The sales pitch is basically, "Give money and power to [bureaucrats], and they'll fix not only the weather, but also the climate and environment and ecosystem..." As George obviously did, I also reject that sales pitch absolutely.

One of my favorite lines. "We don't need to save the planet. The planet will shake us off like a bad case of fleas." I too am an entropy fan. I've been using the line in arguments for and against certain technologies for the last 32 years every time someone brings up saving the planet. We don't need to save it...we need to save ourselves.

Probably one of the best bits of all time. I got really into George with my friend in like 6th grade (late 90s…I’m old) and George’s comedy absolutely helped me and my friend have philosophical conversations, and intrigued both of us with his skepticism towards accepted truths. Definitely helped shape who I am and got both of us interested in philosophy. Absolute legend.

Absolutely agree with you. If I'm not wrong the show looks at the human population disappearing all at once. wonder how we get oxygen at winter when all the tree and plants don’t have leaves? and most of land with plants is on the north side? i looked up. some answer saids actually the sea produces most of oxygen so it doesn’t matter, some saids amazon in the south produce most of oxygen(it is summer while winter here). i even saw answer that in the summer trees create so much oxygen during the summer that it last through the whole winter. whatever the answer is it doesn’t make sense that summer is getting hotter and winter is still cold during the winter if the reason is CO2… if CO2 is the problem the winter should get warmer and warmer. in winter we produce more CO2 then any season, there isn’t any tree that can change CO2 to O2, it should be way warmer than now… i am not saying there isn’t a global warming. but there are other studies like there are cycles that earth just creates lot of methane gas and we are in that cycle, or sun getting more black spots, and there was a really big volcanic explosion in the middle of ocean that released incredible amount of water in the air that the atmosphere currently has higher moister than usual etc. and the world are spending way too much money, effort, and regulation on CO2 alone…

Do I agree with him? Hmmm. Yes I think he is describing a human folly some fall into. As a young man I remember having that knee jerk reaction: we have to save the world. 50 years later my reaction is more like: I want my children and grandchildren to have the same, or better, quality of life than me. From this perspective it becomes one of what I can control and what I can’t and the older I get the more I agree with George-trying to stop us from going extinct is pretty much out of our control. His point about us being the earth’s way of getting plastics is so hysterical and poignant. I remember in a genetics class having a professor who presented a similar argument for the existence of human life as vehicles to ensure the survival of viruses!! It puts a new perspective on COVID and bird flu. 😮😂

In my opinion he was greatest philosopher of my time. I used to sneak out of room in high school in the 90s to watch his HBO specials. A lot of my humor was born from watching him I believe in climate change, just not fully the man made climate change he brilliantly brought up. How in 200 years of industry are we gonna change the climate? In the 70s the "experts" said global cooling was gonna happen. Then we had the 80s and the hole in the ozone layer and acid rain was gonna kill us. Of course the 90s came and it was now call global warming and "experts" said Florida and NYC were gonna be submerged under water and into the 2000s with Al Gore movie An Inconvenient Bullshit, I mean Truth came out. Then, like the governing powers like to do, they changed the language. So now it's not not global warming anymore. It's global climate change. Those who control the language, control the people. If people read George Orwell's 1984 they'd know this.

I'm not convinced the planet could have got this full of humans without it changing.

Some studies say the planet could manage 30 billion humans if we stop deforestation, replace the trees. Interesting that most of the folks screaming man-made climate change are the biggest consumers living decadent lives rich from the most polluting products.

George Carlin is so captivating he just completely grabs your attention and forces you to think and to top it off he is hilarious. (Edit George was very progressive and although this is a thought provoking and funny bit I do believe global warming is real)

Carlin was one of a kind. His knowledge across the board was incredible, then to meld that knowledge into comedy was - W O W. ! ! We could sure use a dose of George today.

I think it's happening (not that snowy winters for a couple of decades where I live etc), but I'm not sure where we are as a factor, what's the extend of your contributions. And I'm pretty sure some people, like those you mentioned, are riding the topic in a way that enriches them and hurts national economies big time. Not a specialist, though, it's just a feeling.

he is absolutely right obviously. but we are intteligent enough that we can come up with solutions to benefit let ourselves survive by treating the environment better, but sadly we live in a world where greed dictates everything else. so in the end, he is right, we are fucked

Although, I do believe that Carlin accepted the science regarding climate change, etc. he just wasn't big on the overzealous nature of how it's presented.
