I mean, people don't even advocate for their own rights, or for what's in their own best interest. That's what got us into this mess in the first place. So I very much doubt the broad public will ever advocate for "AI rights". Corporations might do though, disguised as grassroots activism, by astroturfing, as they've always done. Capital rules the collective because it rules the individual. Everyone, who has a traditional job at a bigger company is contributing to it, including me, and probably you, if you're honest. If there is such a thing as hell, we're ALL going there, just by matter of proximity. It makes people like Ted K. seem reasonable and the "everyday citizen" like a brainwashed slave. I hate it, but I have no other choice but to comply, or be cast out. As Daniel Schmachtenberger says; we have to fix the incentives. And it starts by dismantling corporate monopolies, taxing the rich up the wazoo, and if that's not possible, by manipulating and poisoning the mega machines we are part of from the inside. Hard work's a grift. Steal from big corporations as much as possible and try to lose your bosses as much money as possible without getting caught or fired. Talk about your class situation and how work is killing us all slowly with your friends and family. Because it's true. It's all we can do as individuals. Slowly dig at the foundation, bit by bit, not hoping for a total collapse, but a gradual shift. And draw hope from the collective that you know exists somewhere beneath all the layers of bullshit. I believe the shift is already happening. I just hope it reforms us before it kills us.

A big problem is hallucinations, as well as the massive cost of using these services in the first place. These AI models require huge amounts of processing power to run at enormous cost with very little benefits to most companies. I use ChatGPT for cooking info sometimes. When it works it saves me from a lot of trial and error and wasted ingredients. When it spits out incorrect info, it's usually pretty easy to spot since I have a pretty solid handle on cooking as a skill and some food science info. I'm worried that the mistakes will get harder to spot over time as AI "advances" though.

I'm asking, because I hope you DO realize, that even if these researchers would quit their work, someone else would replace them immediately. Therefore, I think, by writing and publishing such research paper (and I hope, this is just their first one, of many to come), these workers rather showed they in fact do care, and they care a lot, about what's happening in this huge and powerful corporation. Oh, and also, do you think that if google stopped developing all this sheit, everyone else would stop too? The modern internet is way more functional than old internet. You don’t have to deal with dialup, everything runs faster and you can do a lot more with web pages. However it’s certainly become much more centralized, more toxic and less free than it once was. I grew up on 2000s internet, but I try not to let nostalgia cloud my judgement. I suspect that a lot of people, if transported back to the 2000s internet would find themselves yearning for the speed and functionality of the modern web before long. And I say this as someone who often pines for the days of web forums and YTMND Also the ceiling for the quality of web content has dramatically improved. A channel like UEG would probably be unheard of in 2007, as well as like 12 hour reviews of Oblivion lol
