Wow, another amazing video. These videos have made me want to visit Guatemala. I was at a dinner party yesterday talking to friends about your videos and these beautiful countries that no one speaks of. Guatemala is on my bucket list and I cant wait to see El Salvador. I live in Los Angeles, come from Mexican parents, have known Guatemalan and Salvadorean people my whole life. Its such a shame that Ive never heard anyone mention the beauty of these places. I was going to plan a trip to Thailand (Ive been twice), but this may be something completely new and closer for me to explore. Thank you for opening this up to the world.

I first visited Guatemala back in the 1990's and fell in love with the country and people. Tikal was a special experience, especially because I took a night hike in the jungle with a ranger and saw the animals and critters that come out a night, like huge tarantulas. I actually camped in Tikal in small wood sheds in the national park. I wonder if those camping sheds are still available.

You are right. This site ranks up there as one of the best in the world. I personally think it should be a wonder of the world along with Angkor Wat. I mean how do those get left out, right? Glad you had a great time. There is another smaller temple complex that's even more emerged into the rainforest called Yaxha. If you get a chance check it out. Enjoy!

Ek Balam was my favourite Mayan archeological site. Not too far from Chichen Itza. And you’re still permitted to climb the temples. Templo 1 = 47 metros. Templo 2 = 38 metros. Templo 3 = 55 metros. Templo 4 = 65 a 70 metros. Templo 5 = 57 metros. Templo 6 = 12 metros. Templo 33 = 33 metros.

I visited Tikal about 10 years ago. It is absolutely the greatest of the known Myan ruins. It's at least an all-day adventure. Arrive at sun up, bring breakfast (eat at the top of a pyramid). Hollar monkeys were screaming the entire time. Lots of spider monkeys, too. Much better access than other Myan sites we've visited. We almost skipped Guatemala, based on the U.S. State Dept warnings. The people we interacted with in Peten were super friendly. Order tepezcuintle at a local restaurant. It's delicious.

Guatemala is gorgeous and has a lot to offer (based on your videos along with other sites I have researched), but Mexico is much larger and has so many other sites to visit and experience. Also, while Guatemalan cuisine is good, Mexican cuisine is more varied and at another level. That being said, I think both countries are definitely worth visiting. I think Guatemala's one advantage over Mexico is overall less tourists, which is always a plus.

I guess it depends what your criteria is for "betterness". Guatemala may be less touristy, but at the same times it's probably that way, because it's not as developed as Mexico in terms of infrastructure, services and its tourism sector. Guatemala still seems like the entire country is "developing", while Mexico has many areas that are very modernized in many aspects. So Mexico is probably better for people who don't want to get too much out of their comfort zone. But honestly, after seeing the Yucatan and Panama City, Guatemala doesn't interest me as much as it did before. You even said yourself, it's similar to Mexico in many aspects. But $33.00 for a room like THAT in Guatemala seems steep to me.

Can you imagine the number of trees being cut down-for what purpose? This site is a protected area because of its incredible biodiversity. It serves as a vital “lung” for the Americas, and it is currently under threat as cartels and African palm companies take over large hectares of land. These trees are thousands of years old, and cutting them down is entirely unnecessary and unjustifiable. The forest doesn’t need an influx of visitors; it is home to countless animals that deserve to live in peace.
