@@KaptainKlassic This is very true. To add more to this, a top Capcom executive saw the 1971 Spaghetti Western film called "Blindman" (strangely starring Ringo Starr, one of the guys from the Beatles who went into acting and got a role in that western film) on VHS. The Capcom executive fell in love with it and wanted a Western video game made. It kind of started off related to the 1980's Capcom game Gun Smoke but quickly morphed into it's own thing, paying homage to several various Spaghetti Western films (Blindman being the main one, but other Western films like 1973's High Plains Drifter with Clint Eastwood were also used as inspiration). The game got renamed as S.W.A.T (standing for "Spaghetti Western Action Title") when it was clear it had very little in common with Gun Smoke. It was later renamed again to Red Dead Revolver since they felt S.W.A.T sounded too much like a modern police game. Capcom decided to work with a developer called Angel Studios, which later renamed themselves as Rockstar San Diego and became part of Rockstar games. Capcom and Rockstar kept working together but eventually something happened and someone at Capcom felt the game was taking too much time to develop, so Capcom decided to cancel Red Dead Revolver. Rockstar was NOT happy with this since they felt they put too much work into Red Dead Revolver and didn't want to see it cancelled. Capcom decided to be nice to Rockstar, so they sold the rights to Red Dead Revolver to Rockstar for a very low price so Rockstar could have full ownership of the game and self-publish the game themselves. Eventually Rockstar finished Red Dead Revolver and released it and it was a hit, and would be the beginning of the Red Dead series (later leading to Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2). On a side note, I also read that some of the characters in Red Dead Revolver are loosely based on staff that worked at Capcom and Rockstar, so there are a lot of private inside jokes in the game among the developers.

@John613-ro6ms Жыл бұрын
Gun had a better, more movie like story. You really couldn't predict what was going to happen next in the story on your first play through, plus the different settings were refreshing, plus more blunt, realistic interactions with the indians. Red Dead Redemption was amazing but it was basically the same mission over and over and you knew what was going to happen. The dialogue sounded like average people wheras Guns characters had alot of personality, more like a movie script. All of the settings were basically the same in rdr, old west town. Desert. Woods. Gun took you to more imersive places where everything felt so different on a map a fraction of the size of red Dead Redemption. It's hard to explain. It's a shame neversoft joined infinity ward. I would do ANYTHING for a Gun sequal.
@brennanc4321 Жыл бұрын
Personally I believe gun would have benefited from being more linear due to how mission based the map was. Also that all side missions would follow something similar with only allowing a fast travel between locations.

I understand the nostalgic value of the game. I played Gun in 2006 and enjoyed it a lot. But don't always side with the old ones to sound more knowledgeable. Also the fact that you said Gun's characters had more personality than RDR characters CANNOT BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH! I don't know what you were thinking while making this statement. The only correct thing you said is that the story of Gun is more movie-like.

Gun is better than red dead revolver. Truth be told it was ahead of its time and by a company that was known for skateboard games (also fantastic). If neversoft was able to wait until they had similar technology to rockstars first red dead redemption, I think gun could’ve ended up being some serious competition. Red dead at its most difficult is still more of a story you’re meant to plug in to. Gun at its most difficult played like a non team based Socom with lever actions and 6 shooters. By todays standards, redemption 1 and 2 blow it out of the water, but that’s not to say gun is not amazing for what it is. I’ve just began replaying for the first time in I couldn’t tell you how long, but it’s been years. There are some locations in this game that look exactly like places in rdr2. Not rdr1 that I’ve noticed, but 2 oddly enough. I get the idea that some of the guys from rockstar had a great time with this game all those years ago

The reason I think Gun was better because it had a much more interesting story and I liked it's gameplay more because it was a wide variety where as Red Dead just feels more like a GTA game with cowboys. In Gun you could lean left and right behind walls or for dodging bullets, and you could barrel roll (RDR has this too) you could even use people as human shields and scalp them in that game. And unlike Red Dead, they didn't leave out the Colt Navy revolver in Gun which is the most iconic revolver of the Old West I always hated that RDR1 and 2 didn't have it.

I'm here. Just been busy with other things in life. Making content again sometime in the near future. Currently working on something I'll be releasing soon.

Gun is def 10x better than red dead in many ways. Story wise: the story is pretty simple and it hooks you right away. Your not left with any questions and scratching your head asking wtf happened. Characters: each character you meet has some backstory and they aren’t boring at all. Graphics : obviously red dead has better graphics. If never soft wasn’t shutdown and they made the sequel to GUN, we would have been introduced to an online game for sure.

Rdr1 and 2 are great games, but Red Dead Revolver and Gun are true westerns.
