@Frank k he was the face of baseball and the greatest ambassador of the game. Not one dark mark in a 20 year career. The classiness, and the magi c that followed him along...the list of intangibles goes on. You analytical nerds keep forgetting it is the hall of fame, not the hall of stats. Jeets has been out of the game 5 years and he's still the most famous man in baseball. Get real, jeter was larger than life and every nobody had any reason to not vote for him, other than to be a hater. Which is exactly what happened.

Umm no. It was a great heads up play but let's not blow it out of proportion... was it better than Willie Mays catch in the World Series?... was it better than Jim Edmonds catch in KC?... Was it better than a walk off home run in the post season aka Joe Carter, Kirby Puckett, David Freese, Bill Mazeroski? No... not better than any of those and that's just off the top of my head. The flip wasn't even as good a play as DJ's catch against Boston in that incredible game on 7/1/04. He was a good player but everyone needs to stop trying to canonize the guy... he wasn't even the best SS on his own team.

Does Mark know that Mt. Rushmore only has 4 guys? So if he thinks Jeter should be on it then who does he think he should replace: Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, or Mantle? And what about Berra? I love Jeter but the reality is that the Yankees wouldn't be the Yankees without the 6 players above who laid the foundation. And what about Mo? Rushmore almost doesn't work with the yankees because the Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle and DiMaggio group loom so large they are more akin to the founding fathers than actual rushmore

Ruth, Gehrig and Mantle will never come off the "Mount Rushmore" . Mantle was Trout before Trout. Ruth is arguably the most legendary athlete in sports history and was a great pitcher too. Gehrigs numbers are insane. DiMaggio and Jeter are fighting for the 4th spot. DiMaggio missed time during WW2. look at his stats. Unreal. Its a tough call. And Berra can also make a claim.
