The rotation direction is just a technique thing. The way you are standing and attacking the grass should be adjusted to match the rotation of the tool. You were walking and attacking the grass to your left essentially and if you simply turn around and attack the grass from the right you wouldn’t get grass thrown at you. Personally, I wish all tools would have direction selection like a drill. It would be much more convenient to change the direction of spin based on what was more comfortable at the moment instead of having to adopt a particular technique based on the static spin direction
@993ti

I use them daily professionally and you are correct. I'm used to them spinning counter clockwise and as you say, it's the direction of attack.

I helped out my buddy for a while when he needed help with his mowing company back in college to make some extra money, ran a weed eater/trimmer, mower backpack blower etc, it was a commercial stihl equipment, if you run the right path in the yard, around the house and edging sidewalks, they do spin the correct way because you technically get there before the stand up mowers etc, and they mulch the clippings with the mower as they go along, makes more less work in the long run

I haven't used any tools from either brand except for the Milwaukee Demolition Hammer. I only buy DeWalt since it hasn't ever let me down. I think the Harbor Freight would be better if you have a smaller yard that doesn't need a lot of maintenance. The low maintenance and not putting the tools through a lot will probably increase the longevity of the tools. For heavier and more frequent work Milwaukee would be the best bet. The kit Tyler bought costs $764 when not on sale. Harbor Freight costs $479 when not on sale. Paying $285 less for tools that will preform a little worse than a premium brand seems worth it in my opinion.

Nah, it's just a side effect of a cheap speed controller for the motor. The startup process for a brushless DC motor can draw a lot of power, so to avoid damaging themselves or whatever motor they're connected to, a lot of off the shelf speed controllers will ramp up to full speed/power over a second or two. But if you know the characteristics of the motor being used, and are willing to pay a hardware engineer to do so, you can build (or customize) the speed controller so that it can get a near-instant startup without issue.

@@jacobjohnson4763 That's understandable, I completely understand that concept of "integrated" units. IME if you're buying decent+ quality tools, especially brushless the power head will probably be the last point of failure. 10 years ago I started with a Ryobi 2 Cycle power head, trimmer, and blower. It stopped running a couple years ago. So it lasted 8 years. I replaced it with one of the Ryobi 4 Cycle units and am on the 3rd year with it. I have 3 attachments, trimmer, blower, and edger. So IME, even with the middle ground stuff, longevity isn't an issue unless you consider 8 years a short life, pulling triple duty.

As someone who has years of experience using trimmers, as someone mentioned, if it spins opposite to what you're used to. You just need to adjust the direction and way you trim. Its not a huge deal. In gas trimmers, 2 stroke gas trimmers they spin counter clockwise generally, not often you can find one, but a 4 stroke one will spin clockwise. I prefer the four stroke ones personally, but all mine currently are stihl two strokes. You just have to get used to using both. Nothing more.

I have the Milwaukee with weed eater pole saw and rubber broom sold as a kit with charger and 8amp battery was around 800. This is professional grade though I am but a homeowner. I love it. The instant power is what we are used to with gas. Probably goes full power faster than gas. The weed eater holds about 30 feet of line easy feed no taking it apart and winding it. The pole saw is just plain killer. Rubber broom is heavy, but that thing is doing a lot of work, needs to be built heavy. Going to get the hedge trimmer next for all the small trees that are encroaching on one side of my property. Then the battery works in other M18 goodies :P

(Weed eater)As a landscaper and someone who weedeats for multiple hours a week I can say before I started doing it professionally I agree that clockwise always made the most sense But now that I do it at minimum 3 hours a week using stihl weed eaters that all spin counter clockwise When it comes to accuracy around sensitive objects like plants or a fence you don’t want to scratch counter clockwise is much easier to see with precision ( for me atleast) and it’s a lot easier to control lines, like a fence line for example, when using counter clockwise you just walk backwards down the line and you can see easier throw all the grass away from you and the way it spins it kinda pulls it towards the object when walking backwards as allowed to away from it like it would walking forwards. With a clockwise spin Another note is I don’t wear any glasses or face coverings etc when weedeating and aside from an occasional pebble , weedeating counter clockwise rarely throws anything at you I don’t know if it’s experience maybe? I’m unsure but the more I use it the more and more I prefer counter clockwise That’s just my thoughts hope it helps understand a little lol

I stick to brands that made them famous. Example. Kitchen aid mixer, but frigid air refrigerator, both milwaukee 12v and dewalt 20v line ups. I have "greenworks" line up for battery powered yard tools. And they are exceptional! Competitively prices as well.

It looks like the Atlas has much more aggressive teeth. The chips coming off of it are much bigger. That would explain the saw bogging down easier and also wanting to pull you around a lot more.

I use a hedge trimmer at my grandmas house and it is always the most fun yard work because of how smooth the hedge trimmer works. Raking up all the little branches after is not so much fun though.

First time I've ever been so early for a Tyler video. You should try the Atlas 80v brushless equipment and see if it's worth the upgrade over the 40v

I know I’m late but here for Tyler Weed whackers are designed to either spin in a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction. If your trimmer is designed to spin counter-clockwise, it will cut best on the right side and debris will fly outward toward the left side. These machines are best for right-handed users.

If you stand with the trimmer on your left side, then the Milwaukee will throw the clipping away from you. I usually change sides as I trim weeds to better reach different areas, and when I have the trimmer to my left, clippings go forward, but to my right they wind up on my feet. LOL!

A couple of years ago, I decided to give an electric weed eater a go, after yet another gas machine failed. I will say I was very naive as to pricing ! Especially the cost of the batteries, and charger ! Having pulled the trigger, and purchasing the Harbor Freight, I will say that I am quite happy ! Battery life seems more than adequate, and over the course of probably 3 or 4 years of service, it seems to be holding up quite well ! Something I just learned, and have verified, which needs to be mentioned, when buying Harbor Freight products, be sure to purchase their extended warranty ! As the warranty is about to end, you can return your used tool, and it will be replaced ! I was shocked when I learned this, to say the least ! But I did speak to a Manager, and he verified the policy ! So it seems like a no Brainer ! And I have begun to notice that Harbor Freight is releasing more and more new tools, and seem to be moving away from the stigma that was once their moniker of junk tools ! Likely not Commercial tools for heavy duty work, but for the DIY'er, pretty good !

Just to let you know the reason you don't like the Milwaukee weed eater/whacker is because you should weed whack on the right side not the left and I know because my mom learned the hard way when I was teaching her to weed whack.

I agree that string trimmers need to spin clockwise. I realize it works the same either way, but I just can’t adjust mentally. In fact, I have an 18v and a 40v trimmer, and although the 40v is much better, I never use it because it spins backwards.

Almost cut my fingertip off with a hedge trimmer. Tripped over the cord and will never use one with a cord again. I sliced my middle finger from the tip down to the first nuckle. If it didn't cut down, I would've lost a good bit of my finger. 5 stitches, and I still have all my fingers. Great video again.

The reason for the delay, HF has the battery in the back and the motor for the unit in the front the delay is due to the transfer of energy. The Milwaukee has the battery hooked into the motor unit

I use a Dewalt battery powered weed wacker and honestly I like it for how well it works. But with all the wieght being on the back it really does hurt the back when you have a yard as large as mine. It uses the huge Dewalt flex battery I can't remember details at the moment but it's a big battery, the biggest Dewalt battery I believe they have currently at like 40amp or something icr. So for weed wacking I feel if the was at the front end it would be a bit easier on you're back. Now I know you can probably get s strap so your not holding all that wieght like it is but I don't have time too go searching one down lol. But I've used 2 versions of the battery powered Dewalt one and have loved both. My original took any Dewalt battery that all you're average drills and impacts used while my new bigger battery one takes only the one size huge Dewalt battery. I feel they should distribute the wieght better with these thing's honestly fir people with back issue's because after an hour or so of weed wacking it takes a big tole on you're back. I've never used the Milwaukee as I've never really been a Milwaukee person myself honestly. But if all you can afford is the harbor freight stuff I say who cares if it works and does the job then nothing else matters right as long as you're happy. Oh I also have a gas powered set that has everything the Milwaukee kit you have has and it's made by stihl if my memory is correct I don't use it often as the battery powered is just easier to grab and go compared too maintenance of the gas powered set I have. You should also find a actual big thick log for these experiments when you do them. You can usually find such a log almost around any section of woods if you don't naturally have it around your yard like I do as I live on lake in the pocono mountains and am surrounded by woods. And if I'm honest I don't see the point in comparing cheap vs expensive because obviously you get what you pay for. Or maybe they aren't supposed too be cutting square 2×4's or 4×4's lol and thats why these tests should be done strictly on actual tree limbs and small logs as that's what it's for.

39 months in on the atlas pole saw, first one swapped out under the 2 year warranty after kids put it away with oil in it with the head above and it stopped spinning.... Other than that solid, have run the 5ah batteries through it many times, and now have 2 extensions so can reach a little further. Yes the angle is a little goofy, used as designed its for a reason (so you aren't under the branch you're cutting).... But have yet to even swap chains....

I bought the atlas weedeater about and have had zero problems out of it and it gets used to mow a commercial that is mostly ditches that is hard to use a push mower. And I bought the pole saw actually before the weed eater and it also has held up and workes great.

Also the reason why the harbor freight weed eatery spins the way it does is because it's lefty flipped, so it's made for people trimming in a different way than others

Hey, the top section of your garage door is fucked up because the installer failed to install a 2” strut. That section will get worse until it splits it in two and rips the entire door out. Go to your local garage door supplier and buy a strut and install it near where the operator attaches to the section.
