I had nearly every toy from the Cars franchise, including the various Maters from Tall Tales. They're all probably somewhere in my garage now, worn out from years of play and dust collecting

I think Lightning is embarrassed. BECAUSE HE GOT HURT IN MOST OF THEM AND IS VERY SAD!!!!!! 😢😢😢 Days haven’t been the same since that one time he got caught in that rocket explosion thing. 6:30 also in that story Lightning was depicted as being kind of lame by most around him so maybe that’s why he doesn’t want an autograph from him.

Alternatively considering the time travel one maters stories are paradoxes, so Lightning doesn't remember the events because they have yet to happen for him, ergo they are past events but the Lightning in the shorts is a future version of Lightning

I actually have a headcannon//hypothesis//claim on this very same question!!!! It feels right to leave it here to contribute to Mator's stories. MY CLAIM: Mator is not lying, however almost-all/all of the stories aren't true either. He generally *believes* that it all happened. A little bit of background: Before I was diagnosed with depression as a young middle schooler (and other problems that i'd rather not share online.) I was aware that there was always this pressing sadness that wouldnt go away in the back of my head. This really confused me as a kid, and my brain was craving for a reason to feel this way, *so it would all make sense.* As embarrassing as it is to admit, I started to fabricate stories of being bullied in my head, most of them being exaggerated versions of things that briefly happened. I generally believed that every single one of these stories happened, and even cried for those harsh times here and then. I believed these stories were true, because unconsciously, they were a twisted comfort blanket to cover what I didnt yet understand to be a mental illness. (Looking back with a more self-aware veiw, I can only recall seven out of the several stories to be accurate! Oh goodness. 😅) It wasnt until high school and some therapy/treatment a few years later that I became more self aware and began to peice together what *really* happened in those exaggerated memories. (Quick note: Please go to a trusted professional therapist/doctor and let THEM diagnose you and advize treatments. Mental illnesses are not just a joke, nor a plaything to make life more exciting. Its an actual illness in your brain that changes pepoles lifes in various ways. Please take such topics and decisions wisely.) Why I bring this up: in a theory of mine, Mator is going through a simular situation. Remember: -He is a somewhat old/middle-aged charecter that has gone through the struggles of watching his body/shell decay, all while watching his beloved town/community die all around him (until the first movie ends.). - He doesn't have a good memory. (A perfect victim for this pattern, as it further blurs the line between what he wants to be real understood, and reality.) -Very creative, humorous, and has a great imagination. -Has been shown to easily fall for things and make assumptions. (Example: Mator and The Ghostlight.) - He has been shown to have a great fear of being left behind, and just lonliness in general. The Blanket: All of Mator's stories are bizzare, but almost every single one has this in common: - He has a more youthful body/shell, or he is given a purpose that makes almost everyone adore him, intrigued by him, or just happy to see him. I think this alone says what, "his blanket," would be. -‐------------------------ Bonus!!! Using this theory to debunk the time travel episode. I admit, the time travel episode is really cute, but by using this theory, I just feel like this never really happened. The second blanket////////Reality: I like to think that the old lady in the Cars franchise has a blanket of her own, and that it was triggired again sometime before the Time-Travel short. I feel like Mator was recalling one of these fabricated memories to her, and as a way to find comfort, she completly believed him and adapted it into her mindset. ‐------------------------ Conclusion: There's an incredibly high chance that there is no lore, and that this was just Disney goofing around with the characters, but taking a veiw of the charecters on a psychological point of veiw really can change the context of the story. I honestly love Mators charecter. He is a broken charecter that tries hard to make others smile, in his own way, and despite how bizarre his thoughts could be, in the end he just wants to be with his friends, in story, or reality. WELP THATS ALL!!!! I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THIS ANGSTY THEORY/HYPOTHESIS ABOUT A TRUCK, AND HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY TODAY!!!!😅❤🎉

Many of the witnesses who appear near the end of all of these shorts definitely could have been paid actors hired by Mater to back up the validity of his stories, with the exceptions of the Rocket and Plane, who appear too high profile in the profession of which they are built(?) for that the Tow Truck would have no feasible ways of being in contact with them under any other circumstances. So their stories at the very least seem to check out. The UFO and time travel stories also definitely happened. Even acknowledging the fact that Fillmore and Lizzie aren't the most reliable witnesses, we see Mater demonstrate both the abilities to fly and time travel in the present day right before us.

But again, that depends on us assuming that the frame narrative sections are even cannon as a whole, which might not be the case as there are fundamental incongruencies between them and the stories that Mater is telling. It's a madhouse!

Okay, but consider: What if the framing device itself is made-up, and is actually being relayed to us second hand as part of the tall tale? That would make all the evidence fundamentally worthless to begin with!
