I suppose no one here is actually learning Chinese.

I think if DS could get her to be the start of a Dreaming German, it would be a huge success. She’s so fun in the way she teaches.

Yes!! Anna’s channel is great but there is so little high quality content for German. I watched everything that was comprehensible for me and then got stuck. I would enjoy the most Dreaming Turkish. I really want to know that language and as I'll be starting later this year, if nothing CI-based appears, I'll have to do that with complete immersion which may not be the most pleasant experience, especially for first couple hundred of hours... Turkish language is not easily accessible for speakers of Indo-European languages and I'm pretty sure there is sufficient demand. Moreover, it's a pretty exotic language. Dreaming Danish/Swedish would be also nice as it would gave possibility to many people to enter the world of Scandinavian languages. They share a lot of common vocabulary with English and other Germanic languages so it could be also an important factor to consider by Dreaming Languages when taking decision. Other considerable languages could be: Korean, Japanese, Russian, Chinese and Arabic. Romance languages could also be nice but I think it's not a way to go for now as most of the current Dreaming Spanish consumers can have easy start in them so many of us could be a bit disappointed. German could also be a one of the next languages but I don't think it should be a priority for now.

Since it was mentioned in the video, I just want to mention that DS's "older content" is why I'm still watching. The "soul" of DS is, imo, the way Pablo started with the laminated pages of fruits and vegetables, the whiteboard drawings, and, of course, the butt cancer. The method works and I'm in favor of improved production values, but sometimes that can come at the expense of being too sterile. The presenters have identifiable personalities and bring their own takes and as long as the "better content" doesn't lead to DS being just a generic Spanish-speaking endeavor that sounds awesome. A good example was Andres' take on being a "real man" with the cuts of heavy guitar mixed in. I was listening to that as a podcast and walking down the street laughing like a crazy person. Honest entertainment and engagement hooked me, so I'm hoping that doesn't get lost in the quest for more polish.

I'd be very interested in Dreaming German. A friend of mine is learning German. I introduced him to comprehensible input and found a few channels that do it in German. They've helped him a lot and he's now moving more into native content, but his biggest struggle starting out was that there aren't a lot of comprehendible input channels and not a lot of videos. I think the Dreaming Spanish treatment on German would be very welcome. Edit: also, while it obviously wouldn't be useful for a lot of your current users, Dreaming English seems like a huge market. I was curious about English comprehensible input channels but whenever I've gone looking for them there don't seem to be many.

In Dreaming Spanish’s system of Comprehensible Input, we should focus our attention primarily on videos in which we understand the vast majority of what we hear. In that way, we receive reinforcement of what we’ve learned and just a bit of new material at a time. Pablo has done a complete series on how this works and why it’s important to follow the roadmap. If I were trying to watch videos far above my level of comprehension, my brain would “zone out.” Instead of actually listening, the material would be nothing more than background noise. And that would be the opposite of comprehensible input

I volunteer teach ESL in my (U.S.) community, and a good English source of CI is needed, though convincing learners to engage with an unconventional method is something else. So I don't know if the people who need it most (in my area, women in immigrant families who stay home with their children) would be willing to commit and subscribe. But I wish I did have a clear and engaging source of CI to point them to, as they can't learn English with a few class hours here and there. And it's really no coincidence that it is the family members who are the most isolated (SAHMs and housewives) who are the ones not learning English. I have one student who has been in the U.S. 17 years without learning enough English for a basic conversation. Yet her family members who have immersion through school or work speak English.
@morgansapp11 ай бұрын
I think from a business standpoint, French or Chinese would make the most sense. French - This would appeal to a lot of current users I think because 1. Lots of estadosunidenses (I'm assuming your largest user base) want to learn French and 2. bonus points for being another romance language, users could learn one after the other more quickly. Chinese - This would add so much to the market as Chinese is such a difficult language to learn and content is extremely lacking. Literally the only way I would learn Chinese is if there was Dreaming Chinese. Otherwise, I think it'd be too hard. The challenge here would be how to incorporate the writing system or deciding to leave it out.
@SimplyChinese11 ай бұрын
I’ve been thinking about how to incorporate Chinese characters into CI as well. Or maybe it should only be introduced after speaking fluently (like us natives). But I’m afraid most people won’t be patient enough to wait that long. It’s a balance game!
@morgansapp11 ай бұрын
@@SimplyChinese Yes! On one hand, to learn like a native one could recommend not starting to learn characters until 1,000 or even 1,500 hours and that point it's out of DS's wheelhouse. On the other hand, the vast majority of Chinese learners - unlike a native - will not be living in China or surrounded by daily sources of input. Therefore, written media can be a huge resource to a learner.
