This was at a Chinese singing competition called I Am Singer in 2017. The competition is among professional Chinese singers. The producers brought him in as a wildcard. This was the first song on the first episode and overnight he gained 500 million followers (please correct that number if need be!) and needed security. He won second place. That may have been because he is from Kazakhstan and not China. He wasn’t really expected to stay for long! He was 22 years old here. His subsequent versions just get better and better. Each one is slightly different. All beautiful, of course. This has become a signature song for him.

only reason he got 2nd place is bcs first place was popular in china. and it would be weird. but dimash 100% would had won first.

It didn’t matter that Dimash didn’t win the overall comp because he was the one who got international fame through you tube. Dimash is very humble, and he said before the competition that it wasn’t important to win, he just wanted to know that people liked his performance. The other contestants loved Dimash and they became friends and invited Dimash to perform at some of their own concerts. This reality show was not like X Factor, with unknown people. They were all popular artists in their own right and think it a privilege to be invited to take part.

This is a Chinese singing competition between professional singers. Dimash came in 2nd because at the time (2017), the rules said only Chinese citizens could win. They changed the rule the next year. This was the very first night of competition and Dimash was the very first singer. So all of the competitors backstage were hearing him for the first time. He shot to superstardom overnight in China, with this video being viewed over 600 million times on Weibo (Chinese social media). When he released his debut album in China, it went platinum in 37 seconds. I can’t believe this is the first time you’ve heard SOS. Most reactors start with this song. What a nice surprise.

Welcome to Dimash´s world. His name sounds: Dimash accented “mash” and accented /´gen. He is from Kazakhstan but there was singing in Hunan TV show "I am singer" in China when he was 22 years old. He uses techniques from opera, modern lyric, ethnic, glam, hard rock and pop environments. Registers don´t apply to him. Not only male voice, no female voice, no alien voice: Dimash´s voice. He connects to the lyrics and adds textures to his voice accordingly. This was the first song of the show/season, so no one has heard him before on that show, except the older lady (Teresa), she heard him on youtube. If you want to be like Dimash, you got strive for perfection, but know you'll never achieve it, but still try anyway. And he's got 2 bachelor's degrees in music, a master's in music composition and be working on your doctorate as well as be practicing your voice for at least 3 hours a day.
