We have white and red clover just starting this week. And it is definitely coming on strong but I think it is about the same as last year. For anyone considering packages the three I have from Barnyard bees that have been in for about 7 weeks have filled most of a deep 10 frame box and are working on honey supers during the flow we have right now. It is incredible how well they built up.

Rensselaer Indiana, seems this spring we had colder weather for longer, so nothing started growing early so nothing got hit by frost like it normally does, so once the warm weather came everything started growing at once and now everything blooming all at once, white clover just started popping last week, the bee's build up has been extremely good and so many frames being filled with Nectar. best spring around here in a long time.

I live in the charlotte NC area, I have never seen this much clover in the 12 years of living here. I am also noticing an abundance of a wild ground cover with a small purple flower. The leaves have a spicy scent like oregano and it grows specially thick at the edge of the tree line in partial shade. The bees seem to love it. So far this is turning out to be a fantastic year for honey. I combined two swarms that came out of my two hives around the start of April and they already have several capped frames in the super. last year that's where I was at at the end of the season.

Here in NE GA, there is so much clover in pastures, yards and roadsides, some places look as if there is snow on the fields. I've NEVER seen this much. It's even a bit of a problem for cows bloating. However, I see very FEW honeybees on the clovers. And on my farm I plant white Dutch, Ladino, red and crimson. There were bees on the crimson, but not like in past years. Same with the red and white. It's a mystery to me why there is such an abundance and why there are so few bees foraging on it. They are on the holly trees right now in my area.

Wish I could afford a package. Maybe next year. I'm doing good on numbers though, went from 9 hives to 25 since March. And I have a nicot grafting frame in the cell builder right now with 20 cups. Hopefully at least 50% will take and that will make me 10 more hives. I'm grafting/rearing from the gentlest of my hives, the one that I went into today with just a straw hat and a bit of smoke with and no stings, but I have a few that are aggressive and need re-queening. But I worry about inbreeding if I re-queen from the gentle hive. I will end up with over 50% being from the same stock.

This is the best year I've had in ten years. Hard flow here in Nashville. I think the queen Anne's lace will be a flow this year (every 7yrs) in mid summer on. It's gonna rain the next week here. Early prediction, but it feels more northern Michigan non-stop blooming for this summer than typical southern summer dearth for all of july

How do you keep the chickens from roosting on top of empty (or full) bee boxes? Do you have to worry about them leaving messes on boxes, since chickens like to have roosts?
@redlored1006 жыл бұрын
I haven't seen the white clover but what appears to be creeping charlie has taken over like never seen before. My honeybees have been working the creeping charlie like no tomorrow so I'm leaving it alone where most would try to eliminate it. Of course my chickens love the leaves of the stuff so it's a double whammy.

I really enjoy watching your videos, they have helped me get started as a new bee keeper! Thanks!
