It is better to get IDP cause recently I was in Phuket and police stopped me while I was on a rented scooter. And they asked for this IDP else they would have fined me with 1000 baht So it’s better to get the IDP

From one of my personal experience in Thailand, one of the officer during regular checking asked me for my license, I showed him my Indian license and that was it. He didnt ask any other documents. Wearing helmet/seat belt is really important. So you can use your Indian license in Thailand without any problem (Though its better to have IDP). On the other hand, in Bali the officer asked me for my license as well as IDP.

Varun bhai...recently in Phuket I saw police imposing fines of THB 1000 to people who don't have a international driving license. To confirm, I myself approached a police officer and showed my Indian driving license and asked whether it'll be valid. He directly said no and that I would be fined if I ride a two wheeler or 4 wheeler.

mmm they say but in non-english speaking countries , it's always good to carry IDP. The purpose of IDP is to have a DL in local language . But if someone is in hurry to leave, Indian DL is ok but police ke month end me kahi phas gaya , to gaya 🙂

I rented a bike in Chiang mai, if you don't have an international driving permit, then you would have to pay 500 bht fine which is valid for 3-4 days, so fine is still there

I got fined in Phuket on 12thDec 2022 for riding scooter with Indian DL and no International Driving Licence. First police didn't stopped me as I'm a NorthEastern and looked like one of them, but when my friend was riding it we got caught!!! But I think Phuket is very corrupted now from before. I've came Phuket many times. Even at the VOA counter, they straight asked for 2200 THB and sealed the VOA. If u ask them why 200 extra, they'll make u stand and wait and ask multiple questions. Crazy!!

If you are on a tourist visa you should have a valid IDP along with your country DL to Drive or Ride any rental car Or Bike. Without IDP your country DL not valid here and if caught by Thai police you need to pay fine.
