Since you are wondering about the cup in the toilet. Here's the reason: Earlier (15-20 yrs back) the bum guns were not common in India so they used the mugs to pour water and wash the bum. Probably they have just continued keeping the mug even after getting the spray/bum gun. Also there might be few people who may not know to operate the bum gun and are adjusted to the mug thing so they have just kept it

BTW the mug in the toilet is for us (Indians) because we aren't familiar with tissue paper so it is used to pour water. Personally I would recommend to not touch it due to hygiene issue. And Welcome to India.

How times changes . I still remember in my childhood . My Mother taking tiffin box and water bottle for two days of train journey. And today in second and even in third class you will get lunch and dinner very easily. Thanks IRCTC for upgrading my INDIA BHARAT ❤

I do not know how old you are or how much you have traveled. In the six decades of my life so far, traveling in Indian trains, I actually feel the services (including the food) has gone down in quality within trains, including the Rajdhani. Food used to be served earlier also - only difference - they used to be cooked in the pantry car within the train. What has changed now is that you can also order food from many other standard outlets / restaurants, that may be delivered right to your seat while you are traveling. I do not like the enormous amount of plastic waste that also gets generated - earlier there was far less plastic / disposable items. I personally feel IRCTC has a lot to improve to meet international standards of service (look at how the lady found used pillows being recycled and given to them - with someone else's hair sticking - and all this in the supposedly most prestigious train and the most expensive class - First class AC).

This is Indias Largest Railway Terminal & Comes in top 10 in the world. Its the 2nd Busiest Railway Station in India after CST, Mumbai. This is just info for all. ❤😊

Yeah it's railways. in which you have to sit besides of toilet in case you are poor , you have to sleep on the path which is built for passage, you have to cram with people with different types of skin disease and foul odour. I hate Indian Railways don't glorify this shit

Foreigners always missed out some key features of Rajdhani 1st class Attendance will make bed for you on request You will get special food like chicken chilly or paneer chilly on request There is a shower on every Rajdhani 1st class coach You will change your bed sheet or pillow on request In breakfast there is two to three options if you want both you will get on request

Ticket fare for first class and AC class in Rajdhani, Duranto trains generally is inclusive of food cost. We Indians, especially in south, end the lunch or dinner with Dahi (curd) or Yogurt. Sometimes, people like me who always on the move (official travels) prefer curd rice for a healthy diet.

My advice would be.. Tell the Attendant about the Problems you have faced, like the Mosquitoes.. And One more thing, Try to have Enough Water while travelling.. Properly lock the washroom, there is the main lock there which you were unable to find out.. Try to use that before using the toilet. There should be a Shower room if you are travelling In First class.

It is the 'white-washed ' people amongst us who are always worried about "What will the foreigners" say, while at the same time do not hesitate to throw out trash in public places since it is 'convenient' for them.

Generally we ignore the advice and tip the attendants if they are polite and obedient. As I do lot of trian journeys officially (for past three decades), I know a bit or two about how the attendants (the contracted staff) are treated by their owners / department. like me they too spend lot of time away from home / family. But unlike me, they spend off duty hours in very poor conditions. But sometimes they are demanding / aggressive whom I simply ignore. Its all about man management, how you interact with people on the go.
