I am old enough that I can say that I learned to knit flat when flat was all there was. There was what we now call intarsia but it wasn't called that as I recal - it was just how you knit patterns into your project. I am really liking some of the modern interpretations. Very interesting podcast. Thank you.

Watching this in October 2024 to find out what intarsia is, I'm amused to see it describes the way I did a Buffalo Wool jacket four years ago. I interspersed chunks of colours because there were different dye lots in the leftover vintage wool I bought from someone. Wish I could add a pic.

My nana taught me the basics of knitting about a million years ago and it's been a very long time since I did any but have recently become interested again (knitted toy patterns sucked me in lol), and read about intarsia in a book about a week ago but, aside from realising it was about adding colour, I had not a clue what it was about. So this was super helpful. I've only just found your channel but am thoroughly enjoying your content and presentation, so thank you. 😍

A few of years ago I started knitting Christmas stockings for my cousins, now I'm knitting them for my grandchildren. I started with an old Mary Maxim pattern with a Reindeer on it, since then I have used the same stocking pattern but different cross stitch patterns for the image. I've always just called it colorwork however after watching your video I realize it has been Intarsia. A couple months ago I took the idea of the Frankenscarf on Ravelry and turned it into a baby blanket for my grandson. Each square is a different color, different size, and different stitch pattern, again I didn't realize it was Intarsia, I'm really enjoy knitting the baby blanket as you're always doing something different. Thank you for showing us the difference types of color work. 🙂 I guess I can cross off learning Intarsia off my knitting bucket list.

Intarsia is new to me as well. I recently used it when making the quilt squares for my Heirloom Quilt cardigan. I will definitely be doing another intarsia project this coming. I’m considering the Study Group sweater by Jen Parroccini or the Judd Pullover by Alexis Winslow.

Thank you so much for sharing this trend video, super helpful and an eye opener for me. At the moment I start knitting again after 10 years of Crocheting. I am a flower girl and I always loved intarsia flower knitting. Kaffe Fassett and Brandon Mably's approach is simple, colorful and vibrant. But you showed that out there is much more intarsia knitting to discover. I especially liked the dotted shawl incorporating different weights. Think of combining lace with plain shapes, gorgeous! My idea for Intarsia knitting is going for a lot of variegated yarns for natural color changes in the intarsia motif and background without that many color changes and threads to weave in. I made the Slice shawl by Tin Can Knits, which is intarsia combined with very simple lace. It was so much fun to knit! But I wasn't happy with the colours I chose so I didn't do much with it. The Scout Shawl looks fantastic, that's definitely going on my "to dream about" list.

I can vouch for Florence Spurling’s Scout Shawl! It was such a fun knit. It’s one of my most showiest knits because of all of the beautiful colors and patterns. Its essentially a large piece of stockinette with a very narrow garter edge, so it has a tendency to curl (I pin it out fairly aggressively while blocking to try to mitigate that). It was also a fun challenge to purl stranded colorwork!

The reason I haven't started this gorgeous shawl is because of the colour-work purling. Did you find this rather challenging? Did it take much longer than "regular" stranded work?

It honestly wasn’t too bad! I normally knit stranded colorwork holding one strand in each hand; on the purl-side, I knit English-only, dropping the yarns as I went, and keeping the dominant color yarn on the left. It was a bit slower, but I felt motivated to finish a purl row so I could go back to knitting 😊 I think I knit it 2 years ago; for how much I wear it in the cold months, purling colorwork was totally worth it. (I’m wearing it right now on the train!)

My First intarsia was in the late 80ies with a swedish child caracter. In the first wash i washed it to hot. So I waited 35 years untill I tried it again. This time a running Moomin from Novita.

I accidentally fell down the rabbit hole of intarsia knitting when I fell in love with a Vogue knitting pattern called "Parallelogram" Thankfully only the front of the sweater is worked in intarsia. It is a great introduction to the technique.

(I'm the one that mostly knits socks) I did some intarsia socks, Drops 149-22 # fa-254. Made 2 pair, I think. And used an assortment of yarn for them. Turned out really well, looking at them it is very hard to tell they were knit back and forth.

I always say: try it! The worst that can happen is you mess it up and have to start over. You won't ruin your yarn and you'll have learned along the way.

Oh no! You’ve sent me down another (!!) Rabbit Hole… Way back when, I played w intarsia - diagonal lines mostly, some curves/circles. Way before my garment knitting phase (as a new-ish knitter), found a few circular sweater patterns, top down. I felt intimidated with seaming. Pre-internet everything, magazines or books really didn’t show “how” to seam sweater pieces. At least the ones I had at hand. I feel more confident now, with KZbin vids to show seaming specifically. But, I’m really not interested in sewing a set-in sleeve cap. Not ever. Nope. Gimme a raglan any day!! Thanks for interesting, varied, different project content! I’ve seen most of the items you talked about here, not realizing the intarsia factors! I’m off to peruse the Bundle now… how many days before I come up for air ?? !! 😂

I remember years ago not knowing what intarsia was, I bought a knitting book by Patricia Roberts (No. 10 - 1986) and was just wowed by the patterns with all the amazing colors BUT it just seemed so beyond me to tackle the process and now I just wouldn’t have the patience. I think it’s an amazing technique and the results are cool but I’m just not really interested in it.
