I have always known this as a 3 arch viaduct in Whetstone on the GCR. However , recently someone said its technically a Culvert! Which one is it? Help me to decide.

Wow that look good. I would say abit of both. Great British works there and still standing. Excellent video as always

Thank you and thanks for watching. It really is a gem and still as good now as the day it was built.

Both. Built as a viaduct, and used as both. One pound spent, and used for both! 🇬🇧🙂👍🇺🇸

Yes it’s a three arch bridge, bigger than a culvert but not long enough to a viaduct!

Thanks for watching a three arch bridge it has become by popular opinion!

Hi As a retired structures engineer for the railways, the railway definition of a viaduct is 5 or more spans, the definition of a culvert is an opening through an embankment having a span of 1.8m or less. If it’s 450mm or less it’s a pipe 😂

Thank you that is very helpful and hopefully answers the question!

Culvert, I'd say.

Which is the way I am now thinking

I think it's a viaduct because of it's size.

Thanks for watching. I tend to agree although it's an interesting thought

I've never heard of a Culvert 🤔 (thought it was a person's surname) so I'm not much help...😆

Culvert, through an embankment. (arguably one culvert and two tunnels through an embankment!!)
@MiddyExplores5 ай бұрын
That just adds to the argument!! A 3 bore culvert?

Thanks for watching. It would appear so but also seems to me to be built like a culvert? I haven't seen ma y bridges with an embankment on top?!

@@MiddyExplores maybe network rail could tell you, if you can find out who to contact?
