Is It Comfortable in the City? | Royal Enfield Continental GT FAQ #5

Is the Royal Enfield Continental GT comfortable? In a word? No. It cannot be. The riding position puts a lot of strain on your wrists. Taller riders will struggle more. You'll either scooch back in the seat to get your knees into the tank recess which make the riding position even more extreme... or sit further forward to reach the bars and know your knees will go over the recess' crease which is not comfortable and makes the bike harder to grip too. The seat is okay and RE does offer alternatives including in comfort and in shape and role. Similarly, the foot pegs are also set further back. This is a very sporty riding position. However, owners point out that swapping the foot pegs to the Interceptor's is not that complicated if it really becomes a task. Bars from the Interceptor can also be moved over, but that's a little more complex... at which point you don't really have a cafe racer though.

GT 535 had a similar posture. And nobody complained or rather cared about its riding posture because it just had one variant. With the 650 there are options available and most buyers buy them based on looks and budget.

Got my GT a few weeks back and being a 6 ft rider I can tell you’re 90% right. Tbh I don’t want to change anything on the bike and all it takes a few weeks of riding to get used to its riding posture. My wrists used to go sore and shoulders felt numb in 40-50 min ride but now I can go for hours and it doesn’t bother me anymore. The engine makes you forget everything that’s wrong (perhaps) with this bike. It got some competition this week but whoever bought GT will never regret their decision. ❤

I am someone who’s 6’2” and weighs about 95kg , I do not deny the reasons but man it’s a bike that just put smile on my face even in dead stop traffic I wouldn’t want anything else when I’m in my GT . I love the bike and how it makes me feel it is heavy bike to run around in city but for me it’s not that bad . Pros outweighs the cons I would not buy interceptor in a million years if I have the choice of GT it’s that simple .

The riding position is the beauty of it. It is not for everyone. And not a daily go to bike. If one wants a utilitarian vehicle, one must go for cheaper options

I got my RE GT 650.... In the Yr 2019... And yes it was painful on the wrists. I ride to and fro to work doing 75kms every day. So I did change the handle setup to the Interceptor (2019) Which works for me ... Got the chance done in the RE service centre for 5k (done in 2hrs)... Now people would ask ... Why I didn't get the Interceptor instead... Well I love the shape of the GT fuel tank and also the foot peg position... Cheers .... And ❤ your videos... Very informative and interesting. A channel especially for new riders.... Cheers.

I have a gt 650 with lowered handle bar due to the installation of full fairing on the bike, the bike feels uncomfortable only in the first 500 to 1000kms when u not used to the sitting position but after sometime when u get used to the riding position, it's quite rewarding ....the exhaust note from the red roosters sound so smooth and bassy that u forget all the pain and u would always like to push the bike ....with this aggressive riding position, i am using my bike somedays to go to the college which is around 60 kms in the traffic of Kolkata(120km round trip) and believe me it's just getting used to the riding position, u should always use ur legs to hold the bike instead of ur upper limbs, once u get the technique right, cafe racers are rewarding to ride❤️

I'm one of the few who changed the bars on the continental to an interceptor.. world of difference and yes, like most love the tank shape and the pegs are actually better on the GT for parking and stuff.. also the GT comes with infinitely superior verdestein tyres

That is why it is a cafe racer (your last words). And, I am sorry I own one, it is completely comfortable. You will take one or two days of riding and then everything will be ok. Before buying I took a rented one to Spiti, I went with regrets and I came back with my eyes shining bright from its charm.

I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with the bike. It's just if the bike suits the rider. The continental met the design brief they set out to achieve. That riding position is what makes for a truer cafe racer style bike. Would love to have this in my garage but since I am only able to own one currently, I would never get a continental as my primary ride.

I only change the handlebar when i am going on a long trip which has offroading as well. Rest for 400-500km ride the posture is fine for me considering its a caferacer. Also i live in a small town with not that much traffic so I really enjoy riding it.😊

Its so uncomfortable that I had to swap the cafe racer clip ons to Interceptor handle bar. The whole things costs around 6k, adds practicality to the bike and I still have the gt tank. Overall looks like a ‘mean interceptor’🤣 super comfy and in your head its still a cafe racer!

Biggest problem I noted during the launch in Goa in 2018 - bike wallowed in corners at any speed above 60-70 kmph. Checked again in Lahaul last week with the owner of a 2023 model - it still does. Why can't indian mfrs. follow Hero's lead (XPulse 200) and offer fully adjustable suspension as an option so that the engine's power can be exploited to the max???

Should I go with- A- classic 350 B- hunter 350 I like the classic design and all but the hunter's got those amazing colour optionsb (rebel blue, dapper ash, you get what i mean right) and a dashing look so now I'm thinking to decide on the basis of riding experience so if anyone's willing to share their experience??

Why even compare a 3.5 lakh machine against a 2 lakh one? Speaking about KTMs if you ignore the stereotypes, they fit the racing use case way way better than the GT650 on top of being better suited for general use.
