recently looked on marketplace and the amount of modern bikes available for cheap is insane, it makes sense why bike brands aren't getting any sales especially with the cost of a new bike and the cost of living prices.

There are so many issues with the industry at the moment. Expensive bikes and independent bike shops ripping customers off, it’s really taking a knock.

When ‘budget’ bikes start at 3x the price of a brand new game console, why would anyone except dentists pay for that kind of premium? Hiking is free if you want to go outside, max $250 for boots/sneakers. Multiple streaming service subscriptions could be fully funded for a decade instead of buying an ‘entry level’ FS.

The bike industry died in the 1990s and it died as the industry itself took a mature product namely the bicycle in its finished forms and redesign them into the total garbage we have today !!!!!

@@TheHeadAngle No that's my point - it's not human nature. It's intentional industry takeover of people's brains, and market options, to sell sell sell - even to an audience that for obvious reasons favors serviceability and tried-and-true design. @mpenn11 ай бұрын
@@bufordard I understand the business, The money is made in selling parts in the services. most basic components retail is double the cost. Thats huge profit. more expensive components i.e. Suspension fancy brakes etc. the cost is 2/3 of the retail price. full top of the line bikes can be 3/4... like no profit basically lol. We would loose our shit when huge nationwide department sports stores (RaceFace going to MEC in 2009 in Canada I remember fondly) started selling the same stuff we were at a better deal due to the volume they could push for the supplier obviously. I do my own wrenching as that is what I did when I worked in a few shops. It does not make sense for a bike shop to operate like that. I can stop feeling bad when I buy online is the moral of the story here. haha

It’s thriving it’s just changing. More of a luxury, high end lifestyle product now. If you can sell one 20k bike you don’t need to sell 40 bikes for 500. And the customers who pay 20k for a bike buy a new one each year or two. Road cycling and mtbing might decline as grassroots participation sports but as a business it’s good. And then you’ll always have a supply of low end bikes that are good enough to get you to the local supermarket. You’re left with Rolex and Timex.

The problem with the 5 tens vs ride concepts is that the quality of both shoes is not so big enough that it warrants you spending £100+ on ride concepts when you can get 5 tens for £40+. This goes for the whole bike industry. Polygon have brought out the siskiu full sus for a half or a third of the price of a similar specked Specialized full sus ie the stump jumper (yes i know you wont get fox suspension on a polygon) and for the average rider a Siskiu is more than enough. I appreciate that our beloved sport is not a mainstream sport and yes bikes only sell by the thousand not the million but the sheer amount of greed the manufacturers have shown is shocking. The monopoly that Shimano and Sram have on the market is also a massive problem.

The bike industry is dying because you have well off middle aged/old knobbers buying battery bikes because they too f.. king lazy to use a original bike, then you have the youngsters who can't afford a battery bike and like the older peeps they also too f.. king lazy to ride a standard bike, hence very low sales unless it has a battery,ok there is a market for specialized mountain bikes but they are super expensive too.
