The pressure and expectations of our society have a significant impact on our career choice at a young age which often leads us onto the wrong path. We're programmed to strive for security and give up on our dreams. This was also the case for my friend Matt who got stuck in a job he didn't like for more than 6 years. Eventually, after reflecting a lot on his values, he made the decision to quit his job in order to pursue a career in filmmaking. I hope this video can be a reminder for you to always follow your authentic self and never quit your passion - even when everyone else is telling you to do so. 🔥

It's never too late. I spent ten years in engineering college and then realized I didn't want to spend my life inside an office and still graduated as a systems analyst, and I'm about to graduate from my second major. And along the way I realized that those ten years were not wasted time because many things I learned in my engineering career were useful in my other career and in life as well. This video came at the right time, after a difficult year, when I'm starting to think about traveling. I loved that safari they did, seeing all those beautiful animals that were always so fascinating to me like the elephants, the giraffes, the lions, the zebras, wow, I want to be there!!! and travel around the world. "I was the only one concerned with that question, what am I going to do after High School." Dude same, I really hear you on this one!!! And without judgment, it is so interesting to see that a lot of the time the few people which were actually concerned with that question end up doing something really special and different like you. Every day I asked myself that question since I was 15, obsessed with it, and while I have a lot more I want to create, give and get better at, I was a bit mad at myself. And then, yesterday I met a former classmate by coincidence, and every time that happens I am shocked with how most people are still the same way. They still don't know what they want, they still coast around planless, because they either forgot what they loved as a child or always listened to the society and pressure of other people to go down the "safe path" which for most people, leads to misery. Clarity only comes from being bold enough to ask difficult questions and being patient to find the answer. 🖖Even though it took me 5 years to find my thing, I think it is still 5 years earlier than most people. Because if you keep going, you will eventually find the thing you came here to be and do.

When I started in film making in the early 1990s the entry costs were around £500 to hire a camera and £500 a day to hire an edit suite, it was far too expensive to buy your own then and an edit suite would take up a whole room. It's amazing that thesedays you can just start with your phone, edit at home and upload within hours.

This story hit home. I just finished school (here in SA) and I have no idea what I want to do with my life. I'm really in love with creating. So photography and filmmaking are actually things I want to pursue. But some people around me feel like I won't be able to make a living out of it and it really influences my decisions. I really want to follow my passion and this video showed me that I can do whatever makes me happy!
