@@mattih You, Peter and your stories is why I started making videos. My job being a doctor at the ED never stopped me from evolving my skills for videography and photography to a point where I decided it’s time for me to start making videos. I'm a really old guy, and can say at no time in my life have I felt more alive about learning new skills. They all revolve around a lifelong passion which is photography. Which today is a wide open panopoly of media disciplines (eg video, webdesign, motion graphics, editing, ) that invites so many ways to be creative. However it's a delicate balance between spending too much time in front of the monitor, and actually filming the adventures you want to experience. Still, what an opportunity.

I love this, I have been watching you for years Matti and it was what inspired me to pick up the camera. I’ve always chased inspiration without worrying too much about their utility. After a lifetime of finding a huge variety of passions through the make and repeat process I’ve now found that I have a handful of skills that make me unique in someway or another. My goal now is to become a well-known influencer dedicating my life to inspiring others to try new things in the hopes of finding their next passion. Long story short I just wanted to say thank you for helping me find my passion for Videography and Editing.

This is a topic you can't really distill into an algorithm-friendly title. Just because you are following a "passion" doesn't mean you have to uncouple learning and skill-building from it, often it's the opposite because a passion will drive a greater desire to work on skills. Passion as a word has its roots in suffering and religion, today it's pretty much coupled with great enthusiasm for something. Regardless, while I think you and Cal are a smidge off here, the basic premise of "you don't know what you will like until you try it" is a good one. Seek experiences, seek skills, seek knowledge for knowledge's sake and you will be closer to identifying what both gives you the enthusiasm to get up and go to work and what is marketable in today's economy. It's taken me 40 years to figure that part out - to stop listening to "shoulds" and start finding what drives me. The passions that cause me suffering if I do not get to participate in them. It is also somewhat offputting to watch this on a channel built on the backs of viewers who wanted to learn more about a passion they hold. You have viewers and subscribers BECAUSE people want to learn more Matti.

This was definitely an aha moment for me. My life has been a series of learning new skills… IT, leadership, ballroom dancing, now photography. Each of them I’m passionate about, but I wasn’t when I started. I’d add that it’s important to follow your curiosity or you’ll not take the time to know you might like something. Great video.

First lets define what a passion is. Playing video games all night on itself is not a passion, the fact that you like singing is not a passion, been interested in finance or something doesn’t mean you are passionate about them. Passion, by definition is something that you like so much, that are wish to do that much that you are willing to suffer and go through bad moments for it. So, if you like a certain sport that you are willing to sacrifice a diet, nights out with your friends, hours of sleep and so on, cause you have a competition or a training session the next day, that might just be a passion for you. Good luck learning different skills so that you can truly find a passion of yours

Matti this one resonates so much with me. Spent 2/2 through 2/6 in Colorado skiing. Lost my Insta360 X2 on day one in a fall at Breckenridge. It’s somewhere in a snow bank. Our crew went back to look for it with no luck. Filmed a bunch of footage with my iPhone but it’s not the same. Thanks for sharing your thoughts here, you’ve really inspired me over the last 4 or so years. Also great to see Tyler and the kids in a video, they are getting so big. It is important for them to know that they can be successful at anything they want if they take the initiative to LEARN. “Follow your passion” is not only sometimes bad advice it’s also not even possible on spme cases. I’m 55 and was deeply passionate about golf since I was 7. I reached a very good level but never enough to play with the big boys. Then aged 51 I just gave it up completely, for no apparent reason. When covid started I became interested in film making through watching guys like yourself, Peter and a brilliant video called A bivvy, A phone and a Drone. I bought things that would be enough to make KZbin videos (an iPhone, a mini 3 pro drone, a GoPro) but as of yet I ‘ve not been brave enough to learn to use them. Is it a passion? No, but I’m interested in it. And I think passions are fluid and constantly evolving. One thing will naturally lead to another. Find an interest, the rest will take care of itself. I enjoyed the video, I think you hit the mark with your point of view here.

I bought a tiny camcorder in 2008 or 9. It had a button to start recording AND a different button to take a 8mp photo. I bought it because I though it would be fun to record video, but I had no other plans than that. No plans for what to shoot. But I very quickly realized that pressing the photo button was way more fun. And I almost immediately fell in love with photography. I gained passion for it VERY fast. Sold the camcorder and bought the Canon 450D and have loved photography ever since.
