Yeah, I guess we got lucky on that one. Every character has like 3 dialogue lines total that the game randomly selects in arcade mode. They don't even talk to each other. There's no story or any significance to what the characters "say"

Ludosity co-developed this game, the same guys behind Slap City which I really enjoyed and supported during early access. So I always saw this game as Slap City with Nickelodeon characters, which I feel is somewhat the case after playing it myself. I'm really liking how the game plays so far. My friends and I played nearly a hundred matches last night over Parsec. I've also had stable experiences with the online so far.

@@rschock22 that’s just unrealistic in the modern era though. Game makers have less and less incentive to make a workable, ideal product at launch if there’s zero support from jump. So they take the risk and if there’s support, then later it can become what they intended. If there’s not, not such a big loss for them. I think the public who are really attached to the actual mechanics of "platform fighting" are really a minority, almost inconsequential I would say because of the lack of Smash clones in years. It's all about the IP really, the Nickelodeon characters are the ones who are going to sell this game, not the mechanics. It would be good if the general public had the interest for both aspects, but that's not how things goes. I remember how I had lots of fun with the Toy Story kart game back in the PS1, this game only became a thing for me because of the IP itself, I bet many kids also shared similar experiences

Lack of soul, excess of greed, etc.. we all know that. But to say the market is going to crash is a very exaggerated take, lol We reached a point that this kind of entertainment is beyond failure, considering how people are willing to give it a pass for such low quality standards, it's hard to imagine such consistently awful and undesirable products to a point of breaking the market in the information/digital era... The fact that fast falling, dash dancing and everything movement related is just THE DASH button is very cool and for someone like me who hasnt played melee, I was able to get fast movement down on day 1. The movement is so fucking good.

fyi dash dancing is just moving back and forth really rapidly, which isn't related to the dash button as that can't be used on the ground. You are likely thinking of wave dashing, which is quite different.

In Nick, there is no insant running, rocking the analog back and forth makes you move super slow, you have to use the dash button for fast movement in neutral. Yes that is called wavedashing, I was saying that it replaces dash dancing.

@@NickMK I think you're thinking of fox trotting, which is yet ANOTHER Smash specific movement option. The point of dash dancing is to not move very much at all, but instead have your character face both directions """"simultaneously"""" so that you have access to both fair and bair at a moments notice. It still exists in NASB, but is thoroughly useless outside of some char specific tech because fair/bair isn't a thing. Smash is confusing and has a lot of tech.

No offense to the animators, but I feel like a lot of the attacks that the playable characters have just... happen. I think that there is a lack of visual clarity to said attacks, especially when it comes to moves that involve a character flipping like the attacks that Danny Phantom and especially Reptar have. In fact there's oddly not that much squash-and-stretch to the animations as I thought that there would be, making a lot of moves look rather stiff to me. Still, I more than understand that the developers were on a very small budget, and I think that for what little they were given they did a phenomenal job.

You know what I never really noticed? The references to American culture! I'm Mediterranean and rewatching some Spongebob now feels way different than when I was a kid! It's like Spongebob is a casual happy American, Patrick is a fat American, Squidward is a Europe enthousiast American etc and it clicks so much better. And it also clicks why they are all both adults and kids at the same time. And why there's filth. Ill be honest: I appreciate the effort and love the devs have put in this but the content does not justify the price of 40 or even 50 bucks. Only Versus, Online and Arcade with only 20 characters while having no VO and lots of reused SFX for the attacks makes this at best a 20 bucks game. And this is how most people will see this. Only hardcore smash players or Nick fans will enjoy this, the rest will pick something else.

I'm having a blast with it. I will say in sports with the football I feel like the grab mechanic needs to be more responsive. It was rage inducing at times playing with my friend against the cpu and you don't pick up the ball till 3-4 grab attempts later

Hell, in Shaolin vs Wutang fighting game (for PC/Xbox/Switch) sequel, I was able to adress a character description error to the dev and he went back and changed it and even rehired the voice announcer to make said change.

Your assessment is unfair because Smash has a monopoly, similar to Mario Kart in a way. Clones of these games stopped being worked on for whatever reason, of course it will not "stand alongside" right at their first try, that's some unrealistic expectations. Saying that, I am against the idea of buying this game out of "pity", or because the fighting game fans wants to see more clones of Smash, etc.. buy it because it's good and fun, period. hasnt clicked for me yet. So far its 'okay'. Nothing special. Outside 'muh rollback netcode' havent really seen much to be hyped about. Then again outside TMNT and Avatar characters, I dont care for the roster. Maybe Garfield. Visuals also feel desaturated and dated. It def shows its budget.

I've seen many people state that Smash Ultimate is not worth it just based on the single fact that the netcode is trash. I can sorta understand that because, at the end of the day, it's a multiplayer game meant to be played with people and if you can't get a decent connection... then the core of the game just falls apart (though of course there's always local multiplayer).

Especially at 40 dollars. Even fighters think this as a large majority of fighter have multiple modes including training modes, arcade modes, story modes, and party modes.

I do wish Max would really give it a try too, i bet he'd like it.
