The problem of the first game was that it tried way to hard to appeal to the competitive scene and not the casual base. You need single-player and casual options to make a successful fighting game now.

It was that PLUS not even being that great for competitive players because every character boiled down to boring ladder combos. Ironically I, as a player who wanted to play it for that reason, just went back to Rivals of Aether.

its not that they tried too hard on competitive, its that they were given so little time and money that that was the only thing they could realistically work on

It didn't go the full mile in the competitive scene though. The moveset was incredibly basic, and there was barely any content on offer, So it wasn't replacing Smash in that regard, nor was it doing anything for people like myself looking for any decent singleplayer content.

i agree competetive gaming is BORING, they al just want technicla sht instead of just fun things, they threat these games as sport rather than just games, MVCI made me realize how cold and lame that whole scene is like i remember when people asked where Magneto was the devs just repsonded: you don't like Magneto because he is one of Marvel's most iconic villains, you do because he has wave cancel and L-righ or whatever

Supposedly, Timmy Turner wasn't included due to licensing issues with Nelvana who owns the rights to the first 5 seasons of The Fairly OddParents.

I mean, I don’t really blame Nick. Nick wasn’t trying to make a triple A fighting game, they wanted to make just a normal licensed game they got more hype than usual. I think a major problem was that the devs focused too much on trying to make the game a clone of smash bros melee, which just resulted in people going back to melee.

The Fanboy and Chum Chum trio in super brawl 2 were all pretty OP which is really funny. Kyle had the most OP auto win move, Chum Chum had 2 infinites, one of which was a projectile one, and Fanboy had a really good anti fireball attack that made him difficult to combo and great normals.

In particular, I wanna see Miko from Glitch Techs get in, as that show's premise makes it absolutely perfect for a crossover game like this and they could do some crazy stuff with the different gadgets and power-ups in there!

My pick for an underrated nick character: vendetta. She could have a very unique moveset as a summoner who gets fiends to deal the heavy damage but given that Nick basically sent Making Fiends to a early grave 6 episodes in I doubt it

If I were a dev on this game and had to explain why Timmy Turner isn't in the game I would say - "he wouldn't be able to do pretty much anything because he can't use magic. Da Rules specifically states you can't use magic to win a competition".

Other reason why the first game didn’t do as well was because besides voice acting it also was only geared towards the competitive scene and didn’t have anything that smash had for the casual experience (stage hazards, final smashes, items even though they added those later) so if this game starts out with all of that and more I think it will have a way bigger chance to be more popular.

Nick is a brand that produces kids cartoons, so it would make sense for them to focus more on creating a more casual experience than a more hardcore one. Smash’s success is directly linked to its efforts to focus on casual gamers (which is also why street fighter 6 has become one of the most successful entries since 2), so it wasn’t the best decision to focus on the hardcore community.

The meter is for multiple purposes and the main thing exciting to me as a fighting game player. It’s for the final smash equivalent, a street fighter ex moves equivalent (maybe, they weren’t too clear on this) and for the Slime Cancel (presumably something similar to Roman Cancels from Guilty Gear). Wouldn’t expect a platform fighter to have that sorta thing but sounds cool

One of my only complaints with the original Nick all stars brawl (and this is a very nitpicky complaint) is that it feels like the devs tried to make every single attack a reference in some way, like sure a reference every now and then is perfectly fine but sometimes it felt like an attack had a reference forced in just for fanfare. I hope this is kinda fixed in NASB2 but I doubt it, still hopeful for the game tho.

To be honest, I don't see why people were hating on the first game so much. I mean, they weren't trying to make the next smash bros, its just trying to be fun, tiny platform fighter, which it succeeds vey well to do in my opinion. I remember when the first game came out I grinded it so bad that I got the little golden badge on each charecter from the arcade mode, and I thought it was quite fun for what it was. Im glad that the new game looks really good and im really glad it has more content, especially with the new stages, supers, and campain mode.

Yeah I agree, but I think the issue was the pricing. The game was $40, only $20 less than Smash Ultimate which seems like a DRASTIC downgrade in quality and content for that price difference. The game was fun and the music was pretty good all things considered; but, the presentation, lack of content, and omissions of major characters/series was definitely what led to a lack of interest from a lot of people. They started rectifying it near the end, but it was too little too late, so this sequel is the perfect solution of fixing everything from the original and adding too it.

There was barely any single player content besides try to get winged gold for everyone in arcade mode with no arcade mode intro or ending and just fight one on one with no variation on battle types/conditions or bonus stages minus the stage you fight on. Presentation (graphics, sound effects.) was cheap. And no music from the shows. ** No voice acting* $50 asking price which the content on offer wasn't. No crossplay which led to empty lobbies. And everyone had the same up tilt uppercut! *at launch. **Yes, the budget wasn't big.

“We have the perspective of both the developer and the gamer, because we play a lot of Smash games in the past and we know how it feels to not be listened to by the developer.” They absolutely were trying to make a smash bros competitor, and I think that’s why people were so hard on them. People view smash bros as the ultimate fan service game, so when they disrespected them, a lot of people expected big things. I get that many competitive players don’t like how Nintendo treated the competitive scene, but Nintendo was able to navigate the minefield of character rights to get Sora (the most requested character) into smash.

Mark I’m really glad you discussed this. It’s been so annoying going to Twitter and just seeing people complain about how this should have been an update rather than a sequel. I’ve also hated how from the beginning people were complaining about how the game won’t and isn’t as good as smash bros. Of course it wouldn’t be. Smash has been around for over 20 years and have has evolved over time to be what it is now. That and the budget they were givin yeah of course Nick couldn’t too that but that doesn’t mean the game is bad. I really enjoyed All Star Brawl and I can’t wait for the sequel and I really hope they can find a way to include Timmy in the game! I’d also really want Nick to try to being back the Nicktoons Unite series with a brand new game similar to Lego Dimensions just without the toys to life gimmick and with a great budget but only we the fans can possibly make that happen. #JUSTICE4TIMMY

I have been having the worst times recently and as soon as I saw that there was a video on Nickelodeon All Star Brawl 2,AND it was made by LS mark,I was on it and have watched the whole thing.I love your Content and it inspires me to continue further on my own front of animation. I feel like part of the hesitation on Timmy might have to do with Butch Hartman tbh. I know Danny was also a Butch creation but he was comparatively hands off with that series in comparison to FOP, so it might still play some sort of role. I'm not very confident in that, though

Honestly, the biggest problem that all platform fighters face is: Why should someone play this over smash bros? And sadly, there just hasn't ever been a real reason why. It is weird because you could say the same to more traditional fighting games, like why would someone play something like Guilty Gear over Street Fighter? But they always find a way, may it be gimmicks, mechanics or just a completely different combat structure. Yet platform fighters are all kinda forced to stay pretty close to smash bros, which really isn't helping them. They can't get too complicated because then people just wanna play smash, they can't simplify because then people just wanna play smash. Basically, every platform fighter is in a lose-lose situation and I honestly don't see how anyone can get any audience as long as smash bros exists. (I say that fully knowing that Brawlhalla does stupid numbers for some reason, and it is by far the worst platform fighter, so my logic doesn't add up. Oh well.)

People are just desperate to have a competitor to Smash Bros because they want Nintendo to stop with it's anti-competitive practices that they can get away with due to having what essentially amounts to a monopoly on the entire genre of platform fighter PlayStation All stars WOULD have been the best alternative, but it dropped the ball heavily.

I've gotten to talk to some of the devs, and they are some great people who really care about the fans and especially the game, sticking with the game long after it dropped off. I feel that Nick deciding not to give the team the budget they need is what led to it's fall. Now Nick finally seems to see that they should get the time and money they deserve.

I think a big element of the hype for the first game that wasn't mentioned here was that it released around the same time Nintendo was getting extremely negative press for how they've treated the competitive Smash community. NASB was kind of memed into being a protest/replacement to Nintendo's iron grip on its consumers, and when Smash fans predictably didn't mass migrate, it became easy to mock.

My most wanted character for NASB is Trixie, also from Fairly OddParents. I know that if FOP get any representation, Timmy HAS to be in (preferably with Cosmo and Wanda as part of his moveset), and if any other character would join him, while not improbable due to her being a major character, Trixie isn't all that likely either compared to other more major characters like Vicky or Crocker... but I can dream.

I can definitely say the 2000’s and early 2010’s era of Nick is something I hope we see a lot more of, including Fanboy and Chum Chum rep since that show can definitely be represented very well in this format and is an undeniable part of Nick history (like it or not lmao). I def have a level of fondness for shows during that time that I hardly ever see get much respect and it would be nice to see, as a young adult very much interesting in getting my hands on a game like this, see shows I grew up with and remember fondly be on the same podium that older and more iconic shows from the channel are.

Bought the first game for like $15 at Gamestop last year and loved playing it with my nephew. Once I got the hang of Danny Phantom, I was kicking his behind no matter who he chose! My favorite character to play as was Garfield because I can do the voice and adding my own commentary while beating his character just made the experience even better. I think our favorite stage to fight on was the Hey Arnold location where we're fighting on top of a bus while driving through the neighborhood.
