Daily Gospel Meditation | Fr. Ryan Murphy, EP
Thursday of the Twenty-third Week in Ordinary Time
🔶Gospel🔶
Lk 6:27-38
Jesus said to his disciples:
“To you who hear I say, love your enemies,
do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you,
pray for those who mistreat you.
To the person who strikes you on one cheek,
offer the other one as well,
and from the person who takes your cloak,
do not withhold even your tunic.
Give to everyone who asks of you,
and from the one who takes what is yours do not demand it back.
Do to others as you would have them do to you.
For if you love those who love you,
what credit is that to you?
Even sinners love those who love them.
And if you do good to those who do good to you,
what credit is that to you?
Even sinners do the same.
If you lend money to those from whom you expect repayment,
what credit is that to you?
Even sinners lend to sinners,
and get back the same amount.
But rather, love your enemies and do good to them,
and lend expecting nothing back;
then your reward will be great
and you will be children of the Most High,
for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.
Be merciful, just as also your Father is merciful.
“Stop judging and you will not be judged.
Stop condemning and you will not be condemned.
Forgive and you will be forgiven.
Give and gifts will be given to you;
a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing,
will be poured into your lap.
For the measure with which you measure
will in return be measured out to you.”

Amen. What an admirable explanation, Father. Your words are so full of truth that they touch our hearts and invite us. to meditate on them. Be more empathetic and not act as if these words were only for those who lived in the time of our Lord. Thank you Father Ryan Hail Mary

I've always looked at it as that I will not judge a person, but only by their behaviors and actions. I've also come to the conclussion that some people will never change their ways no matter how hard I try to convince them otherwise.

What we can do is surrender those people at the foot of the Cross and ask Jesus to wash them and us too with His Most Precious Blood. We may not see quick results but God see our intentions. God bless you.

Thank you Father Ryan. In faith concerning judgement, we can also look to the example of the good thief on the cross. The good thief judged rightly and justly; Our Lord, Jesus Christ being crucified even for doing nothing wrong, while truthfully condemning his own sin and the sin of the other thief on the cross. Our Lord, Jesus saw this good thief in truth and mercy, forgiving him for his repentance.

Thank you, Fr. Ryan! A lot of people don't understand this, and thank you for explaining this. 🙏 ❤ Father, I then hear, I don't believe in God, I'm not religious, and then they say to me to stop judging them. The action of the sin is what we judge. Our Lord will judge their hearts. Love them and pray for them...

ST. CYRIL OF ALEXANDRIA: “Why do you judge your neighbors? If you venture to judge them, having no authority to do it, it is yourself rather that will be condemned, because God’s law does not permit you to judge others. Psalm 129:3: “If you, O Lord, should mark our guilt, Lord, who would survive?” ST. FRANCIS DE SALES: “How displeasing to God are rash judgments! The judgments of the children of men are rash because they seize the office of Our Lord, the just Judge. They are rash because the principal malice of sin depends on the intention and counsel of the heart, and these are hidden things not known to human judges. They are rash because every person has things that could be judged, and, indeed, on which one should judge oneself. On the cross our Savior could not entirely excuse the sin of those who crucified him, but he lessened the malice by pleading their ignorance. When we cannot excuse a sin, let us at least make it worthy of compassion by attributing the most favorable cause we can to it, such as ignorance or weakness. We can never pass judgment on our neighbor.”

ohhh father, i have always been *attacked, judged, and condemned* during the mass because i would always *put into prayers* all my *disgusts* about the evilness that people have done to me. some prayer warriors wanted me to *stop* my prayers telling me i was *disrespecting* the holy mass, calling me *bully,* telling me that *i just wanted attention* without realizing that i was just *pouring out my heart and soul to God* knowing that He was truly present in the holy eucharist. for me, they were just trying to *show* me that they were holy and i was evil because of my *"hurt feelings".* for me, *they were the ones messing up and disrespecting the mass* because if they were truly humble and holy, not prideful, arrogant, haughty, hypocrite souls, they should have kept their mouths *shut* and just *trusted* the Lord that if i were truly committing greivous sins during the mass, i and i alone would be accountable to the Lord for disrespecting the mass. they have forgotten that we are all sinners in God's sight and so they were very quick to judge and condemn me during the mass. they have prayed that God would take care of every situation in their lives but He tested them and put me in their midst but instead of trusting the Lord that He would take care of me for disrespecting the mass if indeed true, they *judged and condemned* me which was sooo evil in my sight. because i was just a poor, poor, miserable wretched sinner wanting to participate in the celebration of the holy eucharist but they judged and condemned me because i was pouring out my hurt feelings to God, they, who are all *advocates of divine mercy and forgiveness* but they were *not* merciful and forgiving to me. they have prayed for *peace* in their hearts and communities but they were actually *provoking* me, *challenging* my patience and understanding towards them. so, i also judged and condemned them for their behavior towards me during the mass. if i were wrong, then i have already done all atonements, reparations, penances, and mortification for all my sins. 🙏🙏🙏 *Jesus, i trust in You.* Jesus, i love You to folly. - Victim Soul Salve Maria. 🙏😇🌷 S.A.G. 🙏🙏🙏

ST. POPE JOHN PAUL II: “By forgiving his executioners, Jesus showed he is not the accuser of the guilty but rather their advocate and intercessor. Jesus’ words of forgiveness - “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do” - were spoken in circumstances of the greatest hatred and cruelty. Jesus forgives His adversaries immediately, even as their hostility continues. Jesus is the defender, not the accuser of the guilty, because He knows that many can be less guilty than it appears, or one thinks. For this reason, he taught his followers not to judge others. The mercy Jesus asked for His executioners is extended to all humanity.” LUKE 6:37: "Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.”

We judge the SIN, not the person. God HATES SIN. WE too, HATE SIN. It's pretty easy to discern.

How do you know the difference between judging others and being observant?
@HeraldsoftheGospel_official

Hello. You can make judgements based on what you observe...observing carefully, you can determine whether something is good or not.

I would also add that what is prohibited is "rash judgment". When we see something suspicious, we should not draw conclusions rashly. We can always observe, and keep our suspicions. If circumstances prove our suspicion, it is no longer a rash judgment, but an observation of the facts. This will help us be vigilant with others without falling into rash judgment. On this question I have no better recommendation than two chapters in the book called Introduction to the Devout Life by St. Francis de Sales. It is the most balanced and clear explanation. (Please read chapters 18 and 19). ccel.org/ccel/desales/devout_life/devout_life.v.xxviii.html ccel.org/ccel/desales/devout_life/devout_life.v.xxix.html

Do you not know that you will judge the angels?...I believe it was Paul that dropped that one ....we are called upon to judge our own...I believe in judging what I see,or hear as being either good or bad.judgeing the person, however, is the sole dominion of God the Father for only he knows the heart....pray hard for those who cause you offense as their souls are in jeopardy for all eternity....we spend but a small infinitesimal amount of time on earth so be generous and merciful in your prayers and God will be generous and merciful to you.
