I have braces on for 3 months now. Braces do not really hurt. You will feel a lot of pressure and soreness for the first 7-10 days. The "pain" occurs about 4 hours after getting them and will be the most painful during the first 3-5 days. You might feel like wanting to rip them all off! Just stick to liquids or a very soft and mushy diet. Mashed potatoes, milk, yoghurt, white bread and pudding will be your best friends. Drink smoothies for fiber. Take supplements if you need to. After those 3-5 days, you will be able to tolerate some regular foods, but not all. Hold onto your ortho wax because your cheeks can get irritated with brackets and wires poking at them. Not a big deal, just annoying. My lower brackets were installed 3 months after the top so I had to go through the "pain" and discomfort twice. If you need to extract some teeth for braces like I had to, then yes, it will be painful.

My 2 teeth 1 of them from lower, 1 of them jaw tooth pulled. I got braces 6 days ago. It was painful 2-5days. I felt pain after 2 hours after got braces. Trustly, I was crazy about eat liquids because I have been eating liquids after tooth extraction. But today day 6 and I feel much better than yesterday. I can eat bread now😊🤗. But saturday my jaw braces broken by without reason, it was painful because Saturday and Sundays dentists dont work. The wire absolutely cut my tongue then I packed the cotton to my mouth: on the wire. Today Monday and dentist fix the problem. I think all pains will worth to beautiful smile😊 Only rule: DON'T WORRY ABOUT GETTING BRACES. THEY WILL WORTH. JUST FEEL SOME DISCOMFORT A FEW DAYS. THEN YOU WILL BETTER. JUST BE PATIENT❤

The most painful is the first week, after that, you guys are golden. (When I say painful I mean chewing food is hell.) I literally forgot I was wearing them after some time. When you get it tightened, it will also be sore for a few days but not as painful and goes away very quickly. Nothing to worry about folks.

as a person who HAS braces and a low pain tolerance (cause ik some of y’all do too) it hurt only a bit when they put it on but it felt more uncomfortable than painful and after a few days yes it hurt but taking Tylenol and eating soft cold things like ice cream rly helped

Whenever you get the braces, the thing that hurts the most is whenever they put the wire in because of the tightness also, I have a gap in between my teeth, so the orthodontist put a little bit of power chain in between my gap to close it so that was a little tender!

I got my braces in October of 2022 (9 months ago). They didn’t hurt at all, but they did feel weird and uncomfortable. After a week I got used to them. They started to hurt when I got them adjusted. The pain went away after a day or two.

My braces got installed on June 21, 2024. Well I had pain for the first 3 weeks when I got my braces,I had to chew foods with my back teeth,and it was a while before I can eat with my front teeth. Tylenol doesn't do anything for me. My first visit getting them tighten was August 16, 2024 I got powerchains,and those hurt very badly to me. But other then that everything is coming along well,I remain strong,humble, and at the end it will all be worth it.

I got my braces 3wks ago and on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the worst, my pain was a 2. I had bite turbos placed and that is the most annoying part of the process thus far. I also had to have wire ligatures placed to make space. My teeth were pretty sensitive for the first week where I could not bite into anything but no real pain at all. I even called my orthodontist to ask if they were working and he assured me they were. Invest in the wax because it will become your new best friend. I hope whoever reads this and is going thru the braces process will be as lucky as me. 😊

​@@sunrise15079 Yeah, biting into even some soft foods that we think wouldn't be a problem can be a headache. I've tried eating a slice of pizza and that was pretty painful. I've tried biting into a piece of sliced cantaloupe and it was the same. Biting into a piece of watermelon didn't hurt but I can't just eat that everyday, lbvs. You'll have to go through trial and era until you find what works for you sadly. Eating almost everything with a knife and fork seems to have become the norm for me. It'll get better, we just have to stay focused on the perfect results at the end, we'll make it. 😁

Think of it as getting stickers put on your teeth. The real pain starts the day after and you only get numb to it after like a week or two but you will always be able to feel them for a while till you adjust.

Only part that was a bit uncomfortable was when they put on the rubber bands which felt a bit like they were pulling on your teeth but otherwise I felt nothing. Like I said, for the first week or two it sucks but you adjust pretty quick with tylenol and time.

Way back September 22, 2017 I have my braces on, and I still remember the first 7 days, you cannot eat hard foods at that early stage of adjustment. Believe me, installing the brackets ain't that painful, it's the adjustment of the pulling that really hurts much! It will make you agitated all the time. Now I have 10 months worth of installment fees left before my braces is ready to be taken off, then retainers comes next. (Pssst, I have a severe case of underbite sooo... It really takes long to adjust)

I had them for YEARS even had gold chains put on teeth up in my gum and every time they tightened the wires the teeth would pull down 😂 they ache but it doesn’t hurt getting them put on. The rubbing is the worst bit, use wax!

Coming from a person who didn’t even know her finger was broken and going on year three and last step of braces they are so painful for the first day or two to the point where I took the max amount of Tylenol you can and still couldn’t fall asleep but I went from regular over each bracket to a power chain and bands from my third tooth on the top to the bottom back tooth when they make drastic changes to your mouth it is very painful but should die down fairly quickly

No. Take a ibro and eat beforehand and just let your job know my mouth is sore so if I don't talk you know why or keep convos short. The part that sucks is when the brackets cut your lips and inner cheeks. Invest in a water flosser it's a life saver. Go every time on time and wear your bands. People talking about wearing them for 5 years plus because they didn't follow directions.

Ok the only part that hurts is when they dry out your gums when there putting the bracket on but even then it’s not that bad. The worst part pain wise was the spacers I had 8 but they where only in a few days. After 4 days I’m pretty used to them. They feel tight and a little sore after I wake up but it’s nothing bad overall there pretty painless more annoying

The only pain I had getting braces on was the plastic they put in my mouth to stretch my mouth open. That wasn’t fun. But other than that you feel nothing till the next day

I can confirm braces don’t hurt when putting them on…BUT THE WATER IS SO SOUR! LIKE WHY!? Do I got my braces on at like 10AM then around 7pm came around, I was crying because it hurt so so bad, I ate soup for a whole week straight

That's completely normal my friend, it takes a couple of days after you get braces to get used to them! Probably by now you feel better...

OK I have braces and some soreness here and there is false. You’ll have the worst pain in your mouth and jaw for the first week and then it’ll gradually get better but no braces suck.
