I just got my braces 2 weeks ago. I have an overjet and my rubber bands are hooked on the inside of my top molar to my lower canine. I also have triangle bands. At night for sleeping I use a rubber band that looks like a rainbow. Where my rubber band hooks to my bottom canine, then over my front teeth, hooked to my other bottom canine. It’s a lot, I’m still getting used to it!

Hi! I was at a class II elastics for about 8 weeks but noticed my overbite started becoming and underbite. I told my dentist today about it, and he changed the elastis to triangle 3 upper 4 5 bottom. Do you know why he might have done this?? My top teeth and bottom teeth are now touching, and they hurt because they bump into each other when i eat/talk 😭

What about having them going from the back of the top 5th ---> bottom 3rd on both sides? (: Also I have some sort of glue put on both bottom 7ths, so now my bottom and top teeth do not come together any longer

@thrivedental I’m wearing a triangle on left side to keep teeth in place (I believe class one) and class two on right side to get it into class one. My dentist says that’ll fix my midline and get right side into class one. I’ve been wearing medium rubber bands since I started treatment. I wonder if I need a stronger strength rubber band? November, I’ll be in braces for three years. 😅

Towards the end of my journey with braces, I have occasionally Fallen sleep without putting my Rubber bands in. And when I awake, my jaw is very sore and my jaw has shifted forward ever so slightly pushing on my top teeth. I have told my orthodontist he doesn’t seem to think it’s an issue. Of course I really didn’t get an answer either. What do you think?

I'm wearing mine on the last 2 molars top and bottom, kangaroo bands. What class is this? I can't find an example like this anywhere. It's so difficult to put these on. Sometimes it's 2 minutes, other times it's 30 minutes. I miss the triangle 😢 that took 5 seconds or less to put on.

Update: I was determined to find a solution and did 🙌 These are box elastics, not sure which class. It's basically the shape of a box attaching from the last 2 top/bottom molars. The easiest way to install them from my experience so far is to start from the bottom molars and work your way to the top molars. To my understanding, the goal of this method is to close the gaps on my bottom teeth amongst other things beyond my knowledge.

I was told I have class l BUT I have an over jet and when I got my braces on I had to get bumpers because one side of my teeth at the top hit my bottom braces ! what type of band would I most likely be in!?

My orthodontist told me to use the rubber bands on both sides from canines to like the last teeth in the back that has the braces on them. It covers 4 teeth. What is this used for?

hi, dr. coughlin! is it okay to attach rubber bands from my first molar to the lateral insicors? i just got my bands yesterday and that was how my dentist showed me how to put my bands, but i see in others that their rubber band only goes far to the canines.

Hey ....i hope u reply me ....i have only underbite problem and my overbite issue is resolving by braces but still my dentist gave me class three elastics to wear ....will it not cause my upper jaw to move forward and again cause an overbite ..??? Bcz.. i only want to correct my underbite ,,.....is my dentist correct ?

You want to finish on an overbite. That’s the ideal position. Wear your elastics and your underbite becomes a healthy overbite

I’m 56yrs old and have had traditional braces on since March with rubber bands right from the start. It’s now Late sept and I’m now w with triangles. My teeth have moved so fast and dramatically straighter. Should I be concerned that IT IS TOO FAST? Someone told me they moved his teeth too fast and both his upper canines died. Hi - I’m currently on year 3 of braces & I’ve been wearing Class 2 elastics for overjet correction. Now for a reason that was not explained my orthodontist has me wearing Class 3 elastics. I’m really confused on this. Is this normal? Has this been practiced before?

Hello, Dr. I am extremely concerned about the the way my sons teeth turned out after braces. He got his braces removed 2 weeks ago and his teeth are flaring up. He didn’t have this issue before braces. Can this be corrected and how. Thank you in advance.

Yes this likely can be corrected with IPR or if you want to go really extreme you could also extract teeth but this all means ortho treatment again :(

How many mm can rubber bands shift? For example, if the teeth were over jet 7mm, would rubber band only shift 2mm then stop? or what

7mm is very tough to do with just rubber bands but every case is different.

I have class 3 rubber bands, and they were sore from the first day to maybe the third day. After that, they really don't bother me. I think the worst thing is the ba ds rubbing the inside of your cheeks and mouth, but it's nothing too bad, just a little aggravating. Hope all goes well with your braces journey!

That's not the right mewing form, you need your mouth closed and create a vacuum with your tongue to the roof of your mouth, rubber bands help slightly because they keep your mouth closed

I got bands today and had this feeling I was wearing them wrong because I noticed I seemed to have more of an overbite than before, and I just realised I’d got them the wrong way round (like I did top molars to bottom canines instead of the other way around) and was about to just worsen my bite 😭 my ortho didn’t really explain this well so I’m glad I picked up on it before it was too late!

Yeah I change mine about 3-4 times a day, you should take them out while eating and put a fresh pair in after. I think it’s to keep the endurance of the elasticity at all times when you’re wearing them.
