This is an issue where we have difference of opinion amongst the ulema and all of them have their evidences which are a little conflicting. Prophet ﷺ cursed women who do "niyaha". These are the women who follow funeral procession, who wail and hit/slap themselves to express grief.
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ allowed visiting of the graves, since it is a reminder of death and it helps us in remembering the reality of this life. Ayesha رضي الله عنه‎ used to visit graveyard and she also prayed janazah salaah of her brother Abdur Rahman.

Alhamdulillah! This topic literally has been one of my big doubts. I live right near to a Muslim graveyard and i always have a dream to visit that graveyard to recite yaseen to those sisters and brothers who have passed away. Also I know if I visit graveyard it would remind me more of death meanwhile it'd make me more aware about what a janaza is...Also they say that a yaseen recited to a death makes the deceased feel more comfortable and if Allah wills it can also protect them from fire by Almighty forgiving their sins but in my society it's not allowed to visit graveyards for women, i have no idea why..maybe because they're too sensitive they can mourn and cry. But not everyone are the same. There are very strong women out there including me. I wish I could fulfill this wish before I die In Shaa Allah. And a huge Jazakallahuhiren for faith IQ and sh. Omar Suleiman for clearing out my doubt in a beautiful manner. Really happy❤ As'salamu alaykkum warahmathullahi wabarakathuhu Jazakh'Allah

Exactly sister so many Muslims have this concept of reading Yasin here and there. It is a form of bidah please refrain from doing such acts and protect you and your family from such things. May Allah Azawajal guide us all to the straight path. ‏إن شاء الله خير

Here in kashmir, women do all that wailing loudly and slapping etc but THEY don't visit graveyards because they say it is cursed for women without knowing that wailing is actually cursed...!!
@arahh6594
@arahh6594 3 жыл бұрын
I think in some Muslim cultures wailing and mourning loudly is seen as a way of showing that they are really upset for the passing of a person (I have experienxed a few women do this in my culture too) - which is ofcourse not right. But, yes, the misunderstanding is that wailing and visiting the grave is wrong, and not visiting the grave in itself. Can I please ask which part of Kashmir you are referring to?

Thank you so much for this clarification. You have no idea how much this video helped me. I was having a really hard time reconciling the "women shouldn't visit graveyards because they're irrational and emotional" narrative with the powerful and objecyive women portrayed in Islam so this really cleared that up. Thank you to this yt channel and brother Suleiman. May Allah bless you all!!!

All praise is due to Allaah, this is a matter of difference of opinion but the correct statement is that it is not permissible for the women to visit the graves and that is because the Prophet [sallallahu alayhi wa salam] cursed those women who visit the graves. Imaam Ahmad narrated this in his Musnad (2/337) and at-Tirmidhee narrated it in his Sunnan (4/12) and Ibn Maajah narrated it in his Sunnan (1/502). All of them narrated from the hadeeth of Aboo Hurayrah (radhia Allaahu anhu). And in another narration " cursed are those women who visit the graves" Imaam Ahmad narrated it in his Musnad (1/229) Aboo Daawod narrated it in his Sunnan (3/216) and at-Tirmidhee narrated it in his Sunnan (2/4) and Nasaa'ee narrated it in his Sunnan (4/94-95) all of them from the hadeeth of Abdullaah Bin Abbaas (radhia Allaahu anhumaa) And the curse does not come about except in a matter that is forbidden and major in its prohibition but rather a major sin from amongst the greatest sins and that is because the general rule in the Major Sins is that when the consequence [of a sin] is a curse or the anger [of Allaah] or the fire or a severe threat or a punishment in this world [then it is a major sin]. So the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa salam) cursed those women who visit the graves, [which] indicates that visitation of the graves by women is a major sin from amongst the major sins. So it is because of this hadeeth specifying the statement of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa salam) "visit the graves because it is a reminder for you of the Akheerah" [the expression found in Muslim (2/671) "so visit the graves because it is a reminder for you of death" from the hadeeth of Aboo Hurayrah and look in the Sunnan of at-Tirmidhee (4/9) from the hadeeth of Buraydah (radhia Allaahu anhu). So this hadeeth is specific to men evidenced by the hadeeth "Allaah's curse be upon the women who visit the graves" and that is the correct statement upon which it is mandatory for the Muslimaat to traverse upon and that is because the women are weak and it is feared that she may express her mourning with Niyaahah [wailing] at the graves when she sees the grave of her husband or her brother or her close relatives that she will not be able to be patient and that she expresses her mourning by Niyaahah [wailing] and that is because the woman is Auwrah [that which should not be seen] and it is feared that when she goes out to the graveyards, and you all know even to the extent of the masjid, which is the place of Ibaadah that it is best for the woman to not go to it [i.e the masjid] and pray in her house. How much more the graveyards and the fear upon her is more severe? So the end result is that the truth is with the one who says: it is not permissible for the women to visit the graves. [this is a translation of the post above submitted by akhunaa mahmoud (hafidhahullah)the original fatwa is by Sheikh Saalih al-Fawzaan [hafidhahullaah] and translated into English by myself]
