I think that this has to be your most painful challenge yet. I let out an audible "Oh no" when you had to start a new save file, I can't imagine the mental pain that caused. Looking forward to your next challenge, but make sure you don't have to start a new save file in the middle of it. P.S. I'm impressed by how far you got without the Nunchuck... As usual in these challenges, you can get a lot further than I would ever expect. Kinda rough that it got blocked so close to the end though. Also... 16:46 Interesting. I never realised that THAT is what blocks the King's Crest. It sometimes randomly stopped working, but never figured out why. That said, you didn't need to re-do the entire game again. It is possible to re-gain both positive and negative titles, as long as it's not already on the card. So, with 4 positive titles to gain and only 3 titles displayed, you can just keep playing for good titles you don't currently have to shove the bad one out of your records. When playing this game, I always liked to try to keep 3 good titles on there, trying to work off bad titles in this manner after they popped up.

Just so you know, there's actually 3 ways to tell the timing for the Perfect Hit. The most common one is 1) The Soul Attack reticle will turn white. The lesser known ones are 2) your sword will glow, and 3) the soul gauge will turn red and start draining again (this only applies after another Perfect Hit) The soul gauge tell is the easiest to miss, as it starts draining part way through the perfect hit window, but the sword glow happens at the same time as the reticle colour change.

something you said about Sonic drifting to the right during the final battle reminded me of an only thing i once saw while playing with an old N64 demo setup at a store: if you are holding the Stick to the side when you turn the console on, it will get confused and think THAT position is the center! that demo machine was set up to turn off and on every few minutes, so i had to wait for the next cycle for the game to work properly.

This is probably one of my favorite games of all time *because* how needlessly in-depth the hidden mechanics are I 100%ed the game a few summers ago (5 stars every mission, all items, all titles, max followers for each level) and this video STILL taught me about this game! I thought Crest of King was unlocked after Sonic gets Kinged! Very small detail that I would've missed on my run! (Not me yelling at my screen about the honor system. "YOU DON'T HAVE TO MAKE A NEW SAVE!!!!" or "JUST CUT THROUGH THE PILLARS" or laughing at the foreshadowing at 21:53. I didn't know how do-able this run was, but you saying that made me flash back to *the* level.) (Also for Excalibur Sonic: Yes, he does just drift like that)

This was my first Sonic game and I played the shit out of it as a kid. The quick time events never really worked for me, but thankfully I read online about how you can skip the second Arthur phase if you hit him perfectly the first time. Strangely, that doesn't seem to be common knowledge judging from the videos I've seen on that bossfight. There is an indicator in that fight (Caliburn glows when you need to strike), but strangely not in the final Merlina fight. One of the ingame videos shows that you can instantly win that fight by landing enough perfect hits to fill up your soul gauge twice (it overlayed with a second green bar if you manage to do it), but I never managed to do that myself. Other than that, this challenge seems like a good way to turn a decent game into a horrible experience.

I just had an interesting challenge idea, but…well, I’ll run it by you anyway, but I question if it could really work on any game. It’s a limited mission challenge, inspired by the Majora Map in Hyrule Warriors: you only have so many level plays in which to beat the game. Already you can probably see why I have doubts about my own idea. You would need heavy incentives to replay missions or go for optional ones to make the challenge interesting, and even then the thing’s kinda shot if you have a route mapped from the start. I think it would only work for a blind Secret Rings run going for the true ending: you’d get the uncertainty needed for a good challenge given how inconsistent I understand getting the World Rings to be, but again, that only applies for a player who doesn’t already know how to get them. I dunno, what do you think? I thought it was neat when it first came to me, but now I’m thinking it’s better as a mod to force the challenge than a self-imposed one.

I do like the idea, don’t get me wrong. But I’m not sure which games it can be done on. Black Knight and Secret Rings kinda need all of their missions beat. Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair comes to mind. It actually starts the game in the final level, and we have the option to try to conquer it immediately, or play other levels to gather up additional hit points. They have an achievement for when you do beat without playing any other level, which has been done before. Honestly I’m not sure

This is how I had to play the game back when it was new. I didn't make it very far due to frustration more than anything. My family's Nunchuks rarely ever worked whether new, old, borrowed, ours, first party, or third party as well as whether with our Wiimotes or when borrowing others'. When often acting up it either wouldn't register at all or it wouldn't register random inputs. It proved itself to be a terrible accessory for the duration of the Wii's relevance as a console.
