Great video nick! Spacing it off wall is fine we normally use uni strut and zebs though not copper pipe

Nice job Nick, looking forward to trying one of these boards. Personally we would only bring the tails in through the bottom of the board so they are not tacking up space around the cpc & N terminals.

Man, I would love to invite you to the „Light & Building“ Show in Frankfurt in March. The biggest exhibition for electrics & building technology in Europe. You‘d be absolutely drooling over some of the clever stuff on display there. If you think this 3-phase box is „top notch“, you‘d be surprised what ABB, Hager, Schneider & Siemens are showing there. And a „trip report“ would probably a nice addition to this channel.

When installing 3ph DBs I would always put some metal trunking top and bottom - ideally 3" min, but 2" is fine (depending on no. of ccts). Your configuration at your workshop would allow you to terminate all your armoureds into top trunking and provide a place to lose any slack and keep the board tidy. The lower trunking allows the incomer to be made off (if it's an armoured) or in your case to run your supply cables. and again provides an area to make it easier to install the cables - it also stops the situation where you run the supply cables around the interior of the board......much neater and tidier
@cocoino23076 ай бұрын
6 inch trunking as a standard, 4 inch minimum its what I use, the bigger the better
@peterprice8393 Жыл бұрын
Yes spacing off is fine Nick , we normally use some 25 mm steel conduit couplers and use 100mm thunder bolts or screws . Keep the great vlog coming Nick best wishes for the new year 🎉

You need the 10k RCBOs,the neutral fly leads are twice as long
@whatthedeuse Жыл бұрын
I always strut boards off the wall and over shoot the strut by the width of the trunking that I use to frame the DB. If you put trunking on the top and maybe went twice the width of the board and round the sides it gives you more real estate to gland things off, as now you’ve used a lot of the top for your handful of circuits
@ollieb7394 Жыл бұрын
Header trunking is the one especially on a DB like this with such a slim profile.
@carlmarquardt994 Жыл бұрын
Why is it neccasssy at all to strut the DB off the wall?
@whatthedeuse Жыл бұрын

Fitted the exact same board today! Struggled to get the lid off as well, blanks are a complete pain in the arse keep falling off, try putting a swa gland in the top with the stupid rolled top (ok if you want to strip the top plate off but then you are limited to how high you can get the board as you have to screw the plate back on). 1 mcb didn’t work from new and recently 3 of their AFDDs have packed up within a year. Ok board but not 100% ok yet.

We had an extention 2 years ago and I got the exact same Shelly devices installed.. Love them. Have other smaller ones in backboxs and in the ceilings for other lights.. Have alexa and light switches to controll them along with Home Assistant. One thing to note on the Shelly (my revsion anyway) its 1 common live on an internal busbar so dont think about having different supplys on the Live side.

Hi Nick my vehicle for the last 18months is a Toyota proace 75kwh battery (same as vivaro etc) 200mile specced range . It will do 160 miles in winter . Don't buy cheap for the charger , you need one that is never going to fail , a zappi at minimum spec ..

gets done alot in commercial boards being mounted off the wall etc, normally using unistrut behind to mount the board.
@danbrown5452 Жыл бұрын
TPN boards commonly mounted on unistrut, basically the same principle here so no issues
@davideyres955 Жыл бұрын
Defo go with Shelly. Pretty much quality kit. Do a video on how you set it up as I recon it needs mcb after the device as I wouldn’t want to rely on its overload ability. If I remember correctly they can take 40amp in so supply breaker at 32? Be good to have the opinion of a qualified sparky. On the app side it’s good and it also integrates with things like home assistant if you want a dashboard and more options on automation and the like. The nice thing about the Shelly device you showed was it has Ethernet hard wired option if you have a metal box and that interferes with the wifi signal. I’m not overly comfortable with a Ethernet cable floating around near 240volts though.

Hi Nick, you've made a potentially serious oversight, if you look at how that isolator got wired, you may be able to see that in the board it's infact back to front. Only saviour for you would be the DP isolator in the board otherwise you could've had a significant danger. I'd also recommend isolating the outgoing ways before closing a isolator for the entire board like that, there was a subtle arcing and this can damage the isolators which aren't necessarily designed to take a full whack.
@gg-ct3fo Жыл бұрын
It's not the neutral just goes on the left of the 1st phase rather than right of the 3rd. Phase 1 should always be left, 2 and 3 can go in either middle or right depending on rotation needed.

Just fitted the same board in a local school. It’s ok. But Eaton and Hager better although at a price. As said before you should fit the 10K RCBO as they have a longer fly lead. I found the blanks a pain as they do not lock in place. That to me is a design issue they should fix. I liked the locking middle tab & the way the front cover fits on. I personally would like the board to have a little more room. If you were installing a bunch of SWA cables that would be tight. Ok if you’re on a budget!
@shaunlewis286 Жыл бұрын
Are you allowed to extend the fly leads ie crimps or is that a deffo nono? Never going to be doing it but just interested if a crimped length of cable would upset the rcbo's internals.
@andysimcox1872 Жыл бұрын
As far as I’m know there is nothing in the regulations about this. I think this would be more an issue with the manufacturer. I cannot see how it would affect the internal coil. However as you say I cannot see an issue where you would need to extend as the rcbos for 3ph boards as they come with the longer leads.

You should have used trunking on the top rather than butchering the top with flex glands, that way you can add anything later you can and it looks way better than that eyesore, infact if I did that at work I’d end up looking for another job as I’d be down the road.

FIrst! while your doing this board and that, maybe you'd quite like to do some bits and pieces with the tray too? "100mm Medium Duty Cable Tray Flat Tees (MDT100FT)" just in case you feel the need to make it look awesome, with like, gussets and stuff 🙄 Anywhoo, the reason I started typing. . . 3P boards can have a lot of stuff in them. . . on them,, and at the side of them, all held by those 4 fixings. Not moaning or owt, BUT Unistrut is a good way to fix a bigger board to a wall if you need to. . . You can put lots of fixings in it, and the strut acts as a stand off. Another good thing about using that method is you can drill a couple of like 40mm? maybe 76mm holes in the back of the board, put that decent grommet strip around them and pass all the cables down the back. Can look neater than stuffing glands and saves quite a bit of time too 🙂 I really need to do instagram properly instead of typing this stuff. Have fun, say hello to Adams Mum from us all 😁😂😂
