I am a pen nut too. But in reality, pens like this are just expensive nib holders. The same nib can be found on other pens cheaper, and write just as nice.

I'm familiar with pens like these (superior quality and massively expensive) as I had a mentor who fancied himself a scribe (I don't know what the exact term is) and used to hand print correspondence and copy historical and religious documents. My friend was an outstanding computer guy in the military, but his work was so good that he volunteered or was hired to work on various projects writing katakana and kanji. I lost contact with him over twenty years ago, but he spent his final 10-years of military service stationed in Japan, and I stayed their pursuing his passion. The guy was an artist (spend hours on the nights and weekends honing his craft) and artists need quality tools. Me? I can barely write my name legibly these days as I'm always on the computer. Shame! Because I once had excellent penmanship. Cheers!

Review is pretty on point. I'm not sure if Wancher adjusts the Jowo nibs, but out of the two Wancher Dream Pens I own, the kindai maki-e has the smoothest M nib I've written with. My other Dream Pen, the Sun Pillar, also writes very well and wet, though not as smooth as the former. They're also very comfortable to hold, though I'm not sure if I'd feel the same about the smaller timeless version. I have two issues with their pens that kind of annoys me though. Their springed inner cap design makes springy noises when the pen is being capped, and my Sun Pillar converter knocks against the barrel when I tap it.

The pen is a little too generic for me with an outsourced Jowo nib in F or M only, and that converter looks pretty cheap! Maybe for about $30 it might be OK for the interesting finish. Better off with a TWSBI ECO that comes with a Jowo nib in multitude of nib options, and a massive integrated piston filler. I just don't get the appeal of the Wancher. Pilot, Platinum, Sailor all offer high end models with Urushi lacquer, and in house made nibs, in an array of nib options.

For $30, I would expect plastic, not urushi finished ebonite. All the other pen companies that mentioned sell their urushi pens for much higher than this.

Probably ‘I need to see it and write with it to believe it’ ! This particular pen without any art work on it looks like just another glossy ebonite pen available for much lesser price, here in India..

I don't understand how a pen can be good or bad, it's just a pen, standard Bic pens "write" real nice. Does it leak in your pocket is the only benchmark I have for a pen.

I’ve plenty of bad or mediocre pens. When mention “good” or “bad” I am referring to design and quality.
