Gosh Mark. What an amazing haul. I love river city nib holders. I don’t have one, but it is on my wishlist. Hello Tello makes the glass from cane glass. I have been a jewelry designer for 20 years now and it was one of the first materials I fell in love with and used in my designs.

I went to the STL pen show in June as a newbie and I was so excited. Keith was the 1st person I spoke to and he told me to go write with every pen I saw and then come back and talk to him. Best advise ever!

That special metal pen that you showed the picture of was stunning! That metal would be so beautiful used for a lot of different things. I love the copper look to it and the flecks. Very cool. It’s really amazing what people can do with 3D printers! For another craft I do, I get some tools that are 3D printed and have to have some real precision for things to slide, close, latch, grooves to be in the exact right place…and yes, it’s amazing the colors that are being created for the resin (or whatever it is.) I support you supporting small and local businesses and I also try to do that whenever possible. I started a few years ago at Christmas after having shopped regularly at a small local toy store for birthday gifts for my nieces and nephews. The prices were the same as Amazon or Target, so why not shop at the local independently owned store? They aren’t always at a premium price as I think some people fear, and it’s really nice to develop relationships with human beings and know that I’m helping a little to make my community more diverse and less like one more strip mall of chain stores. Plus, I like to find little places in older parts of the city I live in and explore the different neighborhoods, especially the ones that the work from the small businesses have helped to revitalize and give life to a place that had gotten run down and seedy…and there’s quite a few areas like that (not the gentrified version of ‘revitalization’ either, the ‘every day people’ revitalization.) I also understand that I have the luxury of time that others don’t have to do that, and I appreciate Amazon delivering my Nespresso in 12 hours when I forgot to order some! But, I think (in the US) a lot of us have really realized the negative impact of mega retailers putting neighborhood businesses out of business, and also losing not just the relationships and sense of community, but the quality and thoughtfulness of the products they make/craft/sell. You can do that online as well and many small owned businesses will be competitive with pricing and shipping. Thanks for supporting small business, Mark!

Thanks for sharing - and I totally agree with supporting the smaller business when possible. We have a local toy shop too that doesn’t have any electronics - all non battery powered toys and it’s so fun going in there and getting cool gifts.

I went to the Scrapbooking expo at Dulles when it happened and got some cool stamps and stencils I can use. Talked to some of the makers and suggested some options that would make journal/ planner people happier. 🦝

⁠@@chfr1967there is a Baltimore-Washington Pen Show near BWI in early March. It is smaller, and less overwhelming, so a good first pen show. Also, there is a nice pen show in Philadelphia in January.
