Is it SAFE to live Off-Grid in Colombia?

Just got a message back from Huub, he said that it was a goal and dream to sail the Caribbean on his own boat. He has completed that journey and on to the next adventure. With is fair. With so much of the world being on land lol

I'm confused Huub.. last I knew you were working on your sailboat and putting it for sale in hopes of buying a larger sailboat. You then traveled back home for a visit and now you're in Columbia?? What's your plans

I echo that bendaves77, and was puzzled when Huub seemed to suddenly vanish. It was then the penny dropped that he wasn't 100% invested in sailing for much longer. I believe it had become clear that Huub had pretty much had enough of living on an unreliable, dreadfully hot, dreadfully uncomfortable old sailing boat, and, like the couple on 'Sailing Good, Bad And Ugly' has decided to buy himself a bit of land and build a little homestead, just as he did before (in Spain?). I think he's been afloat in a tiny home for longer than most humans could tolerate, and is feeling the urge for change and a more stable home. That's just my analysis of his situation, which naturally is clouded by my own feelings. But living in a tiny, constantly rocking box, unable to go on land without having to go through a bit of a rigmarole would probably get most people down after a few months, not a few years like Huub has withstood. Toilet issues, lack of exercise space, problems getting water, groceries, parts etc, plus of course the massive problem of being a young man in search of a young woman and the fact that you'd be lucky to find any girl who'd take that on without being very likely to leave after a few weeks, all must become intolerable after a while, and whose mind wouldn't stray to perhaps building a little home in the unbelievably beautiful countryside of Central America, or perhaps on a larger island? Sorry it's such a long answer!

I would think most people in that stunningly beautiful country live out their lives with no risk to themselves whatsoever. Despite having been a UK national since birth 65 years ago I am watching this very keenly to see how it would be to up sticks and go to a place less suffocated by the rat-race and overcast, chilly winters.

Love huub but part of this his bad experience on that boat is spending 18k on a complete dumpster of a boat. I don't think he knew what he was looking at. Plenty of beautiful women out there wanting to be on sailboats, but not on 30ft dumpsters lol. Even he said if he had adventure Dan's 38ft his life would be much better. Plenty of sailers who met thier partners while sailing, some lasting decades. Look at ol sailing doodles. He met that beauty like 12yrs ago. Huub told me it was a dream to sail the Caribbean on his own boat and he achieved it. So now it's on to another adventure

@@Shepherdservices317 You are right about Limonade, poor Huub. That seller was some kind of bastard, seriously. The model of boat is, to me, stunningly beautiful. Dan’s boat is more of what we Brits call a ‘crumpet magnet’ though. Huub is a talented person who does well at whatever he tries, so his next project will doubtlessly be a success. I just wish him all the luck in the world as he is obviously the nicest person you could ever meet.
