I own 30ish crawlers, and the SCX6 is easily my favorite for hiking with. It simply goes places nothing else will and it’s not even close. I think the price point for entry is prohibitive, but kinda like an Xmaxx it ruins you for everything else once you have it.

1/5 scale range is our preference. 8th scale if it is a competition. !/10 scale if it is cool or fun. Smaller scale doesn't do much for me. SCX6 Capra would work, very versatile and easy to customize.

I love my SCX6, but I don't know of anyone else who has one around me, certainly no-one in the group I'm part of, so I'm mostly using my 10th scales. I also love my 6th scale Jetstream, and there's a couple of those around. What I need next is a 1/6 boat trailer to go between them.

I stayed away from large scale vehicles forever, but I purchased a home on 3 acres of wilderness and finally it now makes sense to purchase a large scale vehicle. I currently have three large scale vehicles, and the SCX6 honcho, which will never have to be transported now that I have all the room in the world to drive it. I still think the sweet spot is 1/10 scale. I do have a small collection of 1/18 and 1/24 and they are cool but they don’t excite me much.

I think we have a new SCX6 on the way. Hopefully, a 1/6 th Capra. Considering it popularity i think that would be what the go for. I agree 10th scale is king. With winter on the way, mini and micro will be trending. Indoor comps are great this time of year. I do have multiple 10th scale builds for this winter as well. Hopefully we get some killer RC releases before Christmas to add to the collection.

I love my 6, once it's properly setup, it's an amazing trail machine, and you can cover a lot of miles. But I also call it a "100 buck truck" because almost everything is 100 bucks (or more) tires, foams, etc. Plus all the money you have to dump into it just to get it to steer properly. I have exactly ONE micro, that's it. I'm into scale, so basically the more mass= more scale. The tiny stuff just doesn't cut it. The thing about this hobby is trends tend to stay around for maybe a year or so, then dies out. (I don't see you guys having a lot of drag events anymore) Hell, I don't know, the next thing might be Rallye cars? Who knows

The SCX6 buy in was too big for what you got, an enlarged 10.2 with a ton of heft. My friends that have them really like them though. There is a market, many of us want a 1/6 Capra, but the cost eliminates most first time or casual purchases.

An SCX6 Honcho has been on my wish list since it was announced, but I haven’t pulled the trigger, for all the reasons Josh mentioned. Also, I’ve never seen a custom SCX6 build so it seems like a buy-and-drive sort of platform, while I equally enjoy driving and building. I enjoy my micros (six so far) and am finding myself spending more time building and driving them. Went on a family/group vacation to the mountains this week and took two SXC24s to do a bit of driving (trucks, radios, batteries, and chargers all fit in a small plastic tub which was easy to stuff in our truck). I’m not trailing with micros though, so 1/10 scale is still my favourite for going for a long drive or when I can be serious on the rocks for some time.

👍 thank you for the scale news update. My opinion is; minis are fun if there is a comp. Same principles, smaller scale. Also if you’re camping, they’re compact. “Fits in a glove box”. You can have fun on a typical landscape rock at a park or where ever. You can crawl them inside and do indoor comps during the winter time, If you live in a climate that snows”. They do take up a little less space to store them. With the support of the aftermarket you can make them very capable. This being said. I’m with you. I still love the 1/10 scale crawlers, but I’ll also hold onto my minis.

I think the 1/6 class does have a place with RC crawler enthusiasts, but I know Horizon doesn't like to deal in slow sellers. Just look at how they blow out slow selling models and then turn their backs on them for long term product support. I agree with you about 1/10 being the sweet spot. I have several TRX4Ms, an MST CMX, a Tamiya CC02, and a CR12, and they are all fun in their own way. But 1/10 just seems to be custom made to excel on existing and unprepared terrain. It's also great how vast the aftermarket is for 1/10. Definitely my go to size.

I recently acquired an FMS Willys Jeep (1/6th scale) and while it doesn't rival the SCX6 in size, as a "scale jeep" with a "barbie" size driver, I do think it fits the mold of scale better than the SCX10 CJ7 Jeep does. As for Minis, I do like my SCX24, which has some tasteful mods, and leans more comp than scale.. but my preference is definitely the 10th scale.

I love large scale stuff, have a few and their a blast to drive. That said they are expensive to buy, run, need a lot of space to run/store. I think economic realities mean yeah, it’s probably going to be curtains for some of them… I can see 8th scale being the new large scale for some vehicles, I like my 8th and 10th scale stuff the most. Sorry I just never got into the smaller than 1:10 scale stuff. I do not like working on them, reduced scale details, really any of it. I bought a few ran them a bit then sold or gave to my nephew…

I don’t own an SCX6 or similar truck but I definitely want one. Larger always seems to drive and move more like a full scale truck and can handle obstacles in a full scale world better, like branches in particular. The initial purchase cost is what’s holding me back, but I’m relatively new to RC as an adult with income so I’ve bought about $1,400 worth of trucks in the last 6 months. So I could have but there are a lot of less expensive trucks I want also.

Super super weird that this video came out today, I just bought an scx6 over the weekend for 10th scale price I might add. But I do see the lack of support behind them, they are huge and cumbersome but they also open up an entire new world of realism, they are stupid capable out of the box as well.

Aside from the requisite steering upgrades It's bone stock. I bought it expecting to have to replace and upgrade axles, transmission, esc, and more. I almost bought all that stuff with it because I'd heard they were issues. Glad I didn't waste money on them now. It could strip every gear in it tomorrow and owe me nothing. It's now than paid for itself already but it's showing no signs of any problems. As long as you're not sitting on it towing cars around those stock internals can take a lot.

The problem I see with the 1/6 scale is you’d have to make a separate “course” for such a big rig. As oppose to the smaller scale you could actually get away with and be challenged by a course you already have set up. I hate the small stuff myself but have been tempted by the larger axial rigs because the bigger it gets the more “real” it feels anyway great video as usual 👍

For a lot of the same reasons I find the 1/10th scale ideal, I have two SCX24s I spent way too much upgrading like everyone else, and I haven't had either out for a crawl in over a year. The 2 RYFTs I have are plenty large enough for me, I can't imagine where I could even take something 1/6th scale to crawl, 1/10th is enough of a challenge around here. I spent most of the summer rotating through my collection, getting more familiar with each, and really enjoying the differences, limitations, and capabilities of each one.

I really hope the 1/6 scale stuff survives I love it! I don’t like the mini stuff there’s way too much to the point where 1/10 scale is being out-shadowed due to 4 minis coming out every week. I feel like if they brought out a buggy style scx6 that is 20 pounds and not 30 pounds more people would be into that. But another jeep it will be if they do😂

The UMG-10 was the best iteration of the 10-2 in my humble opinion, and a 6th scale Mog with all of the modern updates WITH portal versions of the SCX-6 axles would be icing on the cake, finally portal axles on a model that really needs them, cmon Axial…….🤞🏼

MJX is a legit company. I have their Citroen C3 rally car, and it's a blast. Super quick, well built and looks amazing. They also have several other models, mostly basher style ones. This seem to be their first go at a crawler-ish rig, and specs look pretty decent. So far their cars have all been nice quality. Cheap, fast and fun.

Large scale isn't dead, it's just being ignored. We've had several years to buy the current SCX6. Most of us don't want more than 1 of them. I betcha if they'd build more we'd do our part. I've been begging for a 5th scale 4x4 electric basher buggy for years but nobody wants to go first. They'd rather compete in existing markets than lead in a new one.

Before I get into my answer to the "David vs Goliath" question, I would like to point out that, while SCX6 sales might not be going very well, sales of the Rlaarlo MK-07 (Rlaarlo's 1/7 scale take on the SCX6) seem to be doing fairly well. Granted, parts availability is somewhat more limited, and there's almost no support from 3rd-party companies (the same can be said about almost all Rlaarlo RCs)...but, the vehicle, replacement parts, and upgrade parts, all cost considerably less than they do for the SCX6. So, maybe that has someone to with with why MK-07 sales are doing fairly well. Getting to the "David vs Goliath" question, I can't really answer in regards to crawlers...but, in regards to RC as a whole, I think both have their merits. For example, my smallest vehicles are my Mini-Z & other 1/28 scale RCs (most of which I built from chassis kits), while my largest is a 1/5 scale Kraken RC VESLA.5 C1E SBK (the kit version of the VESLA.5). Honestly, I enjoy both. Large scale might cost more, but is easier to work on...small scale can be difficult to work on, but costs are considerably less. Best of all, both have a considerable number of upgrade parts available, some from the manufacturers, others from 3rd-party companies. Whether bashers, crawlers, or race vehicles, I believe there's room for both ends of the scale spectrum.

8th scale is about as large as I like to drive. Not too heavy and still carry-able. I am very interested in the new Hobbywing Quicrun 8ightfor my custom heavy 6x6 (double rear dually axles) and possibly for my Redcat Marksman 8th scale(this truck probably doesn't need it but what heck). The small stuff is neat for back yard courses but I feel they are too fragile for my usage.

On the flip side, I have a $500 fx118 that I use for comps. I love mini comps because they are inside and can be held in the snowy NY winters. I love building them, but don't drive them much outside of comps. 1/10 is definitely the go to trail size

The problem with the SCX6 and large scale RC in general you need somewhere big enough to run it especially with fast large scale RC’s like the infraction, XMaxx etc vs I’ve taken my SCx24 to work to mess with during break and it literally fits in my lunch bag . I’ve found random stuff to crawl it on while stuck inside the house too just feels like more opportunity to mess with the 1/18 & 1/24 rigs vs even 1/10 scale ones

I love my SCX6, but more scale body options would be awesome; they are big enough to do some awesome details on. Small scale (1/24, 1/18) trucks are like skittles, you can't have just one and they are cheap enough that it doesn't hurt. I'm hoping we start getting scale hard bodies that rival static plastic model kits (and come as such) for the small scales.

I love the scx6, but most of the bodies proline has made for that thing has just been god awful. Especially the K10. They couldn’t have missed the mark more on that body. They have nice plans, but very poor execution

I have a SCX6 that I really do enjoy but does not get used a lot, I go for 1/10 scale rigs when running trails. I think the big scale rigs are too high of price point to gain large popularity. In Canada the SCX6 is close to $1500, that’s a pretty big investment. Small scale opens the door to a larger market.

Micros are nice because they are relatively cheap and capableish out of the box but they are also highly portable. I travel a lot for work and always have some sort of small rig with me because it fits in my backpack and I can run it anywhere.

I love my scx6, but I think it comes to money, build a pimped scx24 for price of a couple upgrades on a $1000 scx6….. And me personally it’s just to big to go out and use for a few min, it’s more of a job to get it out! 1/10 is just sweet spot….love my 1/18 utb based mini wrcca rig, but if I walk in to go craw I’m taking a sporty or a lcg……top performance and not get stuck on every leaf in the woods! Now if the come out with a 1/6 lcg rtr I’m in.

Personally, I've been over the small scale craze since it started. I've got a couple Arrma Groms just because I'm a fanboy but the larger the scale the happier i am. I want a1/5 or 1/6 straight axle monster truck. A Mega LMT for instance and i need a 5th scale 4x4 electric basher buggy. A 8s Typhon exb would be perfect.

The 6 scale stuff honestly seems pretty rad. But it’s so expensive to build out. If you don’t have plenty of good terrain to run it on it’s hard to justify. I thought about it. But I figured around 3 grand before I had something really good. Where I live I just don’t see using it much. But if that scx6 honcho goes on a crazy sale, I might very well grab one. Right before they are obsolete…

The minis/micros are just convenient, great for small spaces and can be tossed in your backpack and taken with you, wherever you go. The big scale stuff is expensive and most owners throw a bunch of upgrades at them, which gets out of hand pretty quickly. They're large, cumbersome and not really practical. Although pretty popular still where I am, I see the big scale stuff struggling to stay relevant!

Large scale is a niche market. They are cool to drive and look great but the cost barrier and the size make it hard for most to commit to the large scale stuff. I think it's like that across the board, case and point, I have a Super Rock Rey that hasn't been driven in at least a year because it's so hard to find a spot that big enough or unpopulated enough that it's safe and fun to drive. Not to mention it's no fun lugging a 25+ pound RC back to the car after the batteries die or something breaks.

1/8 scale typically uses 1/10 parts for crawlers. My Traction Hobby Cragsman has a wheelbase just a tad longer than an SCX10.3 Gladiator. And really, they don't end up being much heavier than your typical TRX4 trail rig "all brassed out", but that does push the limits of a typical 1/10 motor.

I have an scx6, it's a sold 30lbs plus whatever water gets in the wheels.. I've weighed the wheels and tires after a swampy run and they were close to 7 lbs... that's more than most of my 1/10 scale trucks lol I've only had this scx6 for like 5 days now and I am super worried about the day I have to carry it out of the trail, so much so I thinking of making a dolly for it that I can just throw in my back pack

I own an SCX 6 and have had it for almost 2 years. I like driving it a bit more than my 1/10th scale trail trucks since it is pretty unstoppable. I have had to tote it back once with a dead battery and it is every bit of 30 lbs. It has space allowed for 2 batteries and you can add a 3rd. If you own one always have a backup battery if you are going out on the trail. You don't need a special place to run this truck since it is slower than a big basher and will crawl over most 1/10th scale courses. I agree the price barrier is a really high. You can get a lot of SCX 10 for $1100. The Honcho is marked down right now if anyone is looking for a deal. There is no competition to help lower the price. Maybe Traxxas or another manufacturer could provide some competition and get the price lower. It's great size and a little more fun than the smaller crawlers. It has been my favorite truck to drive for several months now.

I will get 1 scx6 before they are gone. I do not see it being used very much. The small scale is cheap and you can find challenging terrain easily Indoors or outdoors. I have 30+ 10th scale so I think that is the sweet spot for me.

I hate the small scale stuff, won't buy it!!! 1/10 scale is ok, got a couple of crawlers and GT cars. Love the 1/8 scale tons of GT2 and SC8. Really love my SCX6!!! Wish there was more in this scale! And my 1/5 FG'S are sooo cool...but parts are expensive. I'll keep buying the large scale stuff as much as possible!!!!!😎

i have a question for you: what's your hardon for unreasonably hating everything made by Chinese companies (except HobbyWing, i guess)? for example in this video alone: MJX is a well known and trusted company. the product page written in chinglish is expected and par for the course. yeah, they should've hired an english proofreader (like 99,9% of Chinese companies even outside this niche), but bashing them and saying they can't be trusted because of the language barrier, is really really low Meus has no original designs?! the Funhaver is an aesthetic copy [something done by US brands as well, so...], yes, but the chassis is original. their ISO axles (best production axles for micro crawlers for all 3 of the most popular ones [not counting Redcat since it's a US only brand and thus can't compete worldwide]), the trx4m twospeed... all the while the 4WS release of the UTB18, a buggy nearly nobody wants to the point of being probably THE most heavily discounted Horizon release in... ever? hell, it sold so poorly it even got the 50% off (or close to) deals here in Europe, and we NEVER get those, gets praise... for not having a 2-in-1 [even though it looks waaaay more toyish than the MJX that followed, and was a main point of criticism during the OG release] half (probably much more) of the Yikong, RGT, Meus, FMS, Capo etc stuff would've been praised to high heavens on this channel if it had a Losi, Axial or Traxx-a$$ sticker on it, with 0 changes [hell it would've been praised even with inferior components and performance to what is actually offered, as is the norm here] so... what's the deal?

I said the Redcat looked great, the MJX looked like a solid product that has such bad marketing that I wouldn’t trust it, meus is a garbage company that sucks the life out of our market. They knock off more parts than they’ve ever designed and are a great example of what has killed a lot of industry innovators. I cover RGT, Yikong etc because they are viable options in other parts of the world.
@praetor47
@praetor47 7 күн бұрын
@@HarleyDesignsInc huh? you wouldn't trust a company with a proven track record because of lame chingrish marketing? wow meus garbage? pray do tell, what particularly unique product did they knock off, that is worth mentioning? 80-90% of their catalogue are generic aluminum/brass hopups offered by everyone under the sky... if you think them offering cheaper alternatives to what 'official' horizon or traxxa$$ offers at criminal, ripoff prices is 'what has killed a lot of innovators' i... i just don't know what i'd say at such anti-consumer and frankly anti-competition sentiment. just sad. the restant 10-20% is mostly original products (like the ones i already mentioned) i do not dispute you cover Yikong and RGT (and others), just observed that their products in your coverage are very very often met with derision and disdain, something not reserved for american-branded (but still china-produced) products even when they're subpar and i'm very, very far from the first to notice it [you have developed quite the reputation for it, especially in the micro crawler world]
