Global Food Shortage Looming- Food Prices will continue to rise- Stock these foods in your prepper pantry while you still can! Beginner prepping!
If you're just starting your emergency food storage and you're stumped or overwhelmed with what to stock- here is a list of basics to get you started! Even if you've been storing food for a while, it never hurts to give your storage plan a checkup.
With the steeply rising foods prices and continuing food shortages we're seeing, having emergency food storage is more important than ever! Every bit of food you buy is an appreciating asset- it will only continue to go up in value. So stock as much as you can today!
Here is a link to a food storage calculator that I find useful. You input the number of people in your family, and the amount of time you want to store food for (i.e. a 2 month supply, 1 year supply, etc.) and it will calculate how much of each item you should store. It can be eye opening to see how much food you really need to store to sustain your family!

Be very careful about stacking cans with ring pulls - too much weight on top can cause them to ooze. Don’t store them on their sides for the same reason. Found that out from experience with cat food! 😢

Glad to watch videos like this. I am a single guy in college. I started watching prepper videos in 2018 as I was becoming more conservative and because it reminded me of my frugal upbringing in Nigeria. Before COVID hit, I moved to live close to family and I now I try and prep as much as I can while here. It has really helped me and my family save money on groceries. I buy bulk vegetables, canned veggies and fruits, dry large bags of rice and flour, cheap whole box of unprocessed chicken and bulk cleaning supplies and toiletries. I also learned how to cook in order to save as much on food costs as possible and it has really help us. I need to do more to prepare for whatever is coming. Thanks, madam. God bless you.

I started last year buying things by the case... So a couple months ago Walmart had corn by the case on sale, I bought 2 cases (plus some sweatpants to get it up to $35 for free shipping)... I got a case of cream of broccoli soup last month, I use it to cook with (casserole) on occasion - a case of 12 will last me a year+ (the corn will probably last me 2 years). I figure it's only going to get more expensive, so if I can splurge for a case and just toss in on my shelves downstairs I'll build up a stockpile.

Here is a trick I used. 55 gallon food grade poly drum blue Fill it full of beans, rices, wheat, etc. If fill up stores just under 500 lbs. Put drum in a dark cool place. Use a vacuum pump with a vacuum switch and maintain a vacuum on the barrel. No air, moisture, sunlight and stored in a cool location and sealed tight. It does not get better than this for long term storage.

I live in a college town. When the students leave they often leave their beer coolers behind (Igloo, Coleman, etc). Also, during summer months people have garage sales. Often they sell their old coolers. Coolers are very sturdy and designed to carry lots of weight (especially if they have handles or wheels). Often you can get a good cooler for free, or less than $5 at a garage sale. Take them home, clean them out, and then wipe them down inside with Clorox and water. Then let them dry thoroughly. Coolers are water tight and usually air tight. They stack easily. Pack each cooler with a VARIETY of items. Rice, beans, pasta, flour, sugar (brown and white) in ratios that make sense. That way you can grab a full cooler and some spices and you can get going with it in a hurry if needed. Or you can give it to a family member. DO NOT put all your rice in one cooler, beans in another, pasta in another. Mix it up.

My late husband and I were in Baton Rouge when Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, then Rita hit us too, not as bad as NO, but I as I was used to going to churches for food now and then, it made me realize that I needed to do more. We moved to Reading, PA, and when Super Storm Sandy hit us we were ready. I had found several Food Pantries to go to on a monthly basis. We had plenty of food, and didn't have to worry about anything. I still stock up now that I have moved again. The preppers I watch have lot's of info in their videos. Rose Red Homestead is a good one, and Mary's Nest has a recipe for hot chocolate mix. That will come in handy for hard times as a pick me up, and to help you sleep too.

The dried milk is really a top priority. The Nido whole milk is a great deal, but I tried drinking it. Now, I would drink it, I don't hate it, but I'm not used to it, I could learn to like it. But, perfect for cooking. I get the Great Value non-fat packages, there are ten in a box, each one makes a quart. They were cheaper, of course, but at $1 a quart, it is OK. I don't waste anything. And, I really like it. My point is, everyone should get long term milk, I do a few evaporated ones also. Get Milk!

Dollar Tree has shelf stable boxed milk quarts similar to Parmelot & Hershey's in the regular stores. Too expensive at $3+ per quart in standard stores, it's a good buy at Dollar Tree for $1.25 a quart. Use by dates are generally 10 months out, & the taste is milk. There's no odd aftertaste like canned evaporated milk. I started buying it because I was tired of regular milk spoiling before I finished it. Keep rotating by date, & you'll never need that run to the store for just milk again!

I think storage over here is probably having an extra xxxx for when the current one runs out! I'd like to add a couple of suggestions. If you can store green lentils try cooking them with onions and serving them over pasta with parm cheese. You can substitute green sweet peas out of the can as well instead of the lentils. I have a large pantry but one thing I don't stock much of is canned fruit. The acidity will compromise the cans often by the end of the use by date on the can. I noticed you didn't mention treats and that's important for long term food security. I keep cans of nuts and seeds. Many will last two or more years. I buy the planters red skin peanuts and when I open a can I add a bit of peanut oil and extra salt and then shake up the can. Some types of dried fruit will last a while and of course the freeze dried fruit is a good long term option. I did a lot of home canning so I tend to dry oven can most dry type foods and they will Keep for many years on the shelf and in quart jars I have a small amount to use not giving the food the chance to go bad. I especially like to do that with cornmeal and as long as I have power I keep the opened jar in the fridge. Plain cocoa with sugar and eggs and butter will make some simple and tasty brownies. Some of the dehydrated hash browns are excellent and only require hot water and perhaps a bit of dehydrated onions to taste pretty good. During the start of covid my wife and I didn't leave the farm for four months and never ran low on anything. My winter garden had mustards, collards, turnips, chard, kale, lettuce, spinach and more so we had fresh greens every night along with rice, beans, and meats from the freezer. Hardly touched our canned meats and vegetables during that time so we likely had close to a year of food for the two of us. If you have room a fish pond will provide you with fish once or twice a week for a long time. A pen of chickens can subsist for a while on weeds, garden scraps and leftover meal foods and all that can be turned into fresh eggs.

This is exactly the kind of information I was looking for. Thank you! I'm particularly looking for meals and menus and appreciate the links to your other videos. I live in south Louisiana and we prep for hurricanes every year. After Katrina and recently after Ida we had to live for months (Katrina) and weeks (Ida) after power and since the outages were widespread we lived on our food stores for a while. Now I need to up my game to hedge against inflation and shortages. I'll need new recipes. Great channel!

An excellent video filled with superb info, Jara. As always. Wish this video had been available when I first began to stock my pantry back in the fall. I was so confused it was overwhelming. Through your info-packed videos and those of several other channels, I eventually got it figured out. Wishing you, Rob and your kids a very blessed Easter.

🥚 almost 30 years ago I was tasked with writing a shelter stocking plan for an Air Force Base. It.was required for natural and other disasters. Because no one i had contact with at any base had actually done it ( plans with pages of stuff and words) I had to develop from the ground up. In the end I demonstrated to squadron and base commanders that there desire for a real plan, sources, menus, etc., was just a pipe dream. Needless to say this mid level NCO raised a few eyebrows....

🍚 baking powder is great for leavening and lasts longer on the shelf than a lot of the yeast packets I've been seeing ..... 4months on the yeast vs 1-2 yrs on the baking powder in my local store.. both will last near double their best buy dates when left sealed in the freezer

Another good idea is when you go grocery shopping buy an extra of whatever you’re already buying. And also don’t forget granola bars and kid snacks- most of those hold up well for bulk just remember to rotate rotate rotate! First in first out and you shouldn’t have problems with food spoiling.

Thanks so much for all the great information. And yes I watched to the end 🍚! I'm new to prepping and food storage and have watched many videos but something you said struck me as genius...make a food menu based on items you can store and plan your storage around that. Seems so simple but honestly I couldn't figure out how I should know how much of certain items I should stock up on for an emergency. Another thing you said that I was already realizing is that if I'm going to put dried beans in my stock pile, I need to learn how to prepare them now not during an emergency. Thanks again for all the great info!

Whenever you shop, walk the whole store. You will often find things on sale that aren't advertised. It may be discontinued. They may be changing the packaging. Find your store's clearance shelf, but know not everything gets moved there. Understand that best by dates do not mean the food is bad. Search out YT videos about dates.

New sub here! 🍚 Lol. I don’t see many people that left you the rice emoji. 😊 I have been watching prepping and food storage videos for the last several months. This video was suggested and I thought the title of the video would be interesting. Me and my husband are like, wow, this lady knows her stuff. Your video was at a good pace for us to learn the different foods. We have a Nutrimill coming this week for our wheatberries. You suggested a lot of canned foods that I had no idea they even make. Never had canned pork before. Anyways, we learned a lot and thanks so much for such an informative video. Reading the comments are great as well.

I used to tell people to run to the hills when things begin to happen but now hearing from mountain neighbors who have much ammo and traps, wire triggers, solar alarms etc.... Maybe not such a good idea to go up to the hills. They expect people to try to rob them. Maybe just go to a shelter is the safe route.
