I'm finding transitioning out of teaching to be difficult even after upskilling and tailoring my resume and LinkedIn site. I've been actively seeking alternative employment for well over a year now. It's very discouraging.

I needed to hear this! Thank you. I worked so hard this Summer on a portfolio, researching, and learning ID with the hopes of at least getting an entry level position with no luck. I am mentally preparing to go back next week, but planning kn continuing to grown and seek out positions. Its bittersweet, but im looking at the extra trime to grow a positive!

Honestly, teachers shouldn’t feel guilty leaving during the school year because companies lay off people during the year without notice. You have to do what’s best for you at the end of the day. Don’t let them guilt trip you for the sake of the kids.

ALL teaching requires instructional design, and all instructional design is a kind of teaching. So if you find that teaching is "not sustainable," then maybe there's a deeper problem.

Well, teaching is not a sustainable career when it takes 20 years to make as much as someone who is in corporate after 3 years. Also, teaching is not about instructional design. It’s all about classroom management.

​@@DiamondFlame45 It depends on what you're teaching. There's a (false) assumption going on here that all teaching is K-12. In higher ed, if you're doing your job right, everything you do is instructional design, whether you teach online or in person.
