Rather than decluttering right now, challenge her to use up what she has and not buy anything new. There seemed to be 4 underarm deodorants in the medicine cabinet. Have 1 out and the 3 unused ones in extra bathroom storage in the linen closet. Only when she is down to her last one can she buy another one. When I decluttered my bathroom, I committed to using up all my lipglosses as I had so many. I am now down to 4 and have not bought any for years. Once I am down to 1-2, I am allowed to buy a new one. No need to get rid of products she uses and loves, just self-discipline not to buy any more until you use them up. Also Happy Birthday!

I think people forgout how crazy moving is. Initially your just getting the boxes of furniture and stuff in the space. Nothing is put away is all spread out and looks insane. Once you start unboxing and organizing I'm always surprised how well most things fit. Yes, Becky could get rid of more, but I think it's unfair to judge when she's still unpacking. I have never wanted to jump through a screen more and help. I think switching up some of the furniture placement, utilizing the hall linen closet as more bathroom storage, a curtain for the closet, investing in furniture with hidden storage solutions, and wall shelves/verticle storage would be the biggest help.

As Dana K. White says, “”Let the container be the limit.” In this case, the adorable new place is a very small container compared to Becky’s previous place. Many more tough choices are going to have to be made in order to make this new place not to be overcrowded and cluttered.

I agree I think she is clinging too much to her old lifestyle and habits. Time for a major mindset shift from childish hoarding and embrace her future version as a grown up. I wish her the best, and hope she finds a healthier new self surrounded by beautiful plants and LESS SILLINESS.

It's too bad she didn't stay in her new place for a bit with minimal things. She could have shushed her whole home at once. I bet she keeps going and downsizing her stuff. She had a lot of stuff & she's let go of a lot & come a long way!

Suggestions (since you asked) - YES to the curtain over the closet opening. This will absolutely make it a more peaceful environment. NO to a hard door in the small hallway. There really doesn't seem to be enough clearance. You could also add a curtain in this area to provide privacy. Adding fabric will also help with acoustics. BATHROOM - My suggestions is to keep "useful" items off the window sill. This space should only hold "loved" items. This means when you first walk into the bathroom you have a lovely view straight ahead of you. Thats my nickel's worth. (It used to be 2 cents but with inflation the price has risen. 😃

This is the coolest little cottage ever!! A space like this is an eclectic minimalist's dream! I think another deep pass of decluttering will help so much when everything is more put away. Once all of her furniture is how she wants it, she may realize she doesn't need it all. Bright, light and airy is something she said she wanted in another episode. I am so proud of how far she has come so far. I hope we see a lot more of her space!

I don't know about another pass so soon after the move. I think she should live in her space and see what is working and what isn't. Also now that her bathroom stuff is so visible, I think the amount will naturally diminish over time as it is used up. In her previous place, a lot of stuff was behind closed doors and in drawers and cupboards. It's hard to remember what you have when it is tucked in somewhere.

I think another pass would help. Move extras out of the bathroom. Can’t she do things like moisture and apply makeup outside of the bathroom so that only the essential stuff is in the bathroom. It looks so cluttered seeing that shelf when you enter the bathroom. Why not put on her makeup and the rest standing at the mirror above the dresser in the bedroom. The top drawer could hold all her make up in containers. She’s done so well. I know it’s so difficult. When I downsized and was moving in my son said you don’t need this and you don’t need this and throw this out. Him doing that was just what I needed. I found it so helpful because he was being realistic. Give your rooms some breathing room. It will really help.

That is all precisely what I was going to suggest. Just keep in the bathroom what you absolutely need in it. You can style your hair and apply makeup and serums and creams in the bedroom. She has done amazing I agree 👏

Totally agree, I have a small bathroom with little storage and so I only have stuff I need in there. I do my make-up/hair, etc... in my bedroom, where it all feels much more relaxed anyway. I was cringing thinking of all the make-up brushes and palettes getting splashed with water. She has done really well, just need to use spaces a little differently from when she had a bigger bathroom. :)
@rebeccalee2645 ай бұрын
I thought the same! Keep all the makeup bits in the bedroom perhaps! And even having little baskets that fit exactly on those small shelves would make it look less cluttered to the eye? Then you could pull the baskets out nearer to you when you’re looking for something!

I feel like back stock goes in the cabinet or on top of it. But…it’s not my place!!!❤
@TheCaitling5 ай бұрын
This was awesome. moving is so crazy - her new space looks so cute! The advice I would have (from personal experience) is to put a ban on purchasing any items she already has; that applies really to bathroom stuff. I /always/ over purchase and have a ton of back stock, and it just takes up space. I love how Marie Kondo points out that the store pays rent to house that stuff and you don't have to. I am definitely aware that online shops have major sales sometimes and its a great time to stock up on that kind of stuff, but an item that really stood out was like deodorants and there are a ton. It's crazy how much mental energy it takes to NOT buy stuff when you don't yet need to. I also have switched to a Nixit menstrual cup (its not like other cups; its a COOL cup lol) and washable cotton pads (and flannel rags; I am slowly becoming an 1867 prairie pioneer woman, but trust) and now I don't have to stock up and store tampons and pads, which then go right into the trash! My sister is a frugal minimalist who doesn't invest into anything she can't prove out ahead of time and is pretty mainstream and I gifted her a nixit and cotton pads (I'm the weird sister) and she is a convert and cannot go back. I know I put it on every cleaning/declutter video, but its worth spreading the word to help everyone declutter their tiny bathrooms as I have!

I think Becky needs to get completely moved in. She needs to get her new bed and she needs to get completely unpacked. Then she needs to get rid of all the packing materials, boxes and paper etc. etc. and then try out the new place for a couple of weeks or a couple of months. Then it would be fun for Carla to come back and show us the new final place. That would make it easier for us outside onlookers to say if you think Becky needs to do another Declutter. She Decluttered many of her clothes and her shoes and got everything into that nice new big closet. She has that nice big loft although I don’t see how she’s going to be able to get up there unless she has a dedicated ladder. I would love to see how she is going to do her living room and kitchen set up, a dining room table nook? How will she entertain guests? Does she have full access to the outside yard? That would be a great place to set up a small barbecue and maybe have some tables and chairs or benches where people could be outside and inside at the same time. But I don’t really understand the space well enough to make a good suggestion. Love you both, Carla and Becky, best friends!

I think the 3 tier unit as you walk into the bathroom needs to go. Not enough moving around space for it. Purchase some of those Amazon wall shelves (or other type) that you have and a fix to the wall of the bathroom above basin and under the window. Excess items from bathroom need to go into the area where toilet paper is or in the bedroom. Not sure of this new bed with slopping out legs. A high bed so you can store things underneath or one that raises up for storage would be great. Maybe furniture in bedroom can be better placed. Not sure, as I couldn’t get the true idea of walls and what was where in the video. Not another pass just yet. Down the track. A curtain or dooring to hide wardrobe contents would make the room seem less cluttered.

What an adorable place that seems to fit your friend juuuuuuust right. 🙂 Yes, however, to at least one more pass through her things in order to declutter even a little more. She'll be happy she did. Also, I'm not sure that they have a specific name, but there are curved storage pieces made specifically to fit around the bases of pedestal sinks. That would give her more surface area for storage, yet look more streamlined as she could eliminate the smaller shelf unit to the right of the sink. Yes to a curtain to cover the closet; it'll be a nice way to introduce a bit of color and pattern as well as hide the contents. Thank you, Becky, for sharing your home with us!

Getting rid of clutter is so much work, physically, mentally and emotionally. Although Becky got rid of a lot, she still has more to go through. I too held on to a lot of stuff. I would cry terribly during my decluttering sessions that it was so overwhelming and debilitating at times. Now I try to go through every part of my apartment often and ask myself a serious of questions like, do I need this item? have I used it already? when will I use it? I mean how many reusable shopping bags does one need? I use the same bags over and over! I find that the more I stay on top of my space, the easier I can get rid of things I no longer use or need which keeps the clutter at bay.

I think I would constantly be hitting my shins and stubbing my toes in the bedroom with the current furniture arrangement, but I think some people need more time to realize after settling in that the space and ease of movement is worth more than the things jammed into all the various pieces of furniture and some decide it’s worth it. Either way I’m so happy she’s in her own space and such a beautiful place. ❤

I would line up her products from tallest to shortest to try and give it a feeling of cohesion. I would also remove the labels where she can and stick them on the back if she wants to retain the information but having the bottles their plain colour facing outwards will help cut down on the visual noise. And yes to the curtain for the closet. Something light in colour like the walls. It's hard to tell everything that's in there as she's still sorting things out but it does look like she could do with another pass. You have to adjust to the space that you live in and to be comfortable and not feel overwhelmed that means reducing things until they comfortably fit. She's done well and the place is beautiful but maybe if she thinks about what are her needs and prioritise those and let go of some of the nice to haves so storage can be multi-purpose. Like to me that clothes closet is quite large by UK standards for one person considering that she is also using a dresser. I personally would try to limit my clothing to saying half the size of the closet and then the rest can be used for storage. I get it though, it takes time to peel back the layers of stuff and get used to living lighter. It doesn't mean deprivation though it's just realising that you have enough for your needs.

Happy Birthday, Becky!! 🎉 I think that another pass would be a good idea when Becky has lived in the space for a few weeks. I would suggest using vertical space like open shelves on the wall in the tiny bathroom. I would also suggest keeping extra items in the linen closet vs the bathroom cabinet. I would also suggest bed risers to use underbed storage containers. They have rollers on them making them much easier to access. I would suggest labeling the bins in that beautiful loft area and sort them to make it easier to find what you're looking for, ie, crafting supplies and paints on the left side, memory boxes in the middle area, extra purses/bags on the right side of the loft. A curtain on the bedroom closet would be nice to make the room feel less cluttered.

I love Becky's new place. What a treat to have that nice outdoor space, too. The only little tweak I think I would make in the bathroom is to re-home the things on the window sill except the little plant. Just doing that, because it is at eye level as you enter the bathroom, will make it feel more spacious. I bet Becky will decide herself to do another pass. Once you get a taste of how peaceful your home feels with less things, it is very addictive.
@HFTLH5 ай бұрын
For that bathroom, I would highly recommend trying to add a couple of wall shelves and eliminate the shelving unit that you have to squeeze past just to get into the room. Store any extra supplies that you don't need frequently in a box in a different room or closet. You don't need to keep 6 deodorants in the bathroom. Same with toothbrushes. Keep one spare and store the rest elsewhere. Cleaning supplies under kitchen sink. Prioritize items you use every day. Reorganize so you don't have to clutter up the window sill. I know it's a process....those are just my suggestions.

@jennyjenkins8775 ай бұрын
Whether or not Becky should add a curtain to her closet depends on whether she prefers hidden organization or if she's a visual organizer, like a Bee or Butterfly in the Clutterbug system. She is a maximalist and seems to be able to manage it so, if she's able to function very well with that amount of stuff, then it's fine if she wants to live with it in her new space for a while. If she finds that she's not able to unpack everything, another round of decluttering would be a good idea. I was basically an organized hoarder when I started my decluttering journey and have done several rounds of decluttering but I have a different goal than Becky, which is to become a minimalist.

Becky, what a beautiful new place to call home. You decluttered so much with Carla before the move. Creating more room for your items might require another pass. For example, I think there were at least six or seven deodorants in your medicine cabinet. Having only two will allow more space to take an item or two off the window sill and place it in the medicine cabinet. Bit by bit you can make space. I’m sure there are people that would appreciate a kind donation of any multiple items.

Carla-you are a wonderful friend! I am going to agree with what most have already said,It’s too much. She has too much. Something has to drastically change to allow her to open up to what caused the hoarding. Becca deserves to be happy and not be bogged down with things. Absolutely more passes need to be made. I think we want to see her happy and able to move about freely. If she ever started therapy that would be a great way to include the WHY behind the massive amounts of consumption we see in her life. Please continue to declutter and encourage her to release the hold these “things” have on her. Keep going, we know she can do it. Sent with Love…

We would love it if Becky can do it with you Carla and to share it with us, but if course if either of you don’t want to do that then that’s totally fine. Thanks for sharing your moving process with us Becky! I’m moving at the the end of the month with my family so I love seeing how other people are doing that process.

Good job guys one suggestion though I see she is storing multiples of many items she has a car and can easyly purchase items so she dosnt need to store multiples previous place had space for excess storage this has nun so go with the flow and store items worth 2 weeks or max to max a month and go buy again same can gradualy be applied to the makeup😊

I think the bathroom looks great. Another pass through Becky’s clothing. She has a lot of office stuff that needs a home. Becky your place looks great very good lighting and lighting helps with mental clarity. I pray you enjoy your space.

I'm enjoying this series so much. It's putting me in purge my stuff mode so that my space isn't overwhelming.

I moved from 1400 square feet and a garage to no garage and 700 sq. feet over the last 6 years. I don't miss one thing I have tossed in the process. I love that I have more money saved and closets not stuffed with things I don't use. This video just made me go throw out 10 more things over the last 2 days. 2 plastic hangers, a shirt I never wore, some glass jars. I don't want anyone to find me dead in a mess and have to dig me out.

I moved into a tiny home a year ago from a 2 bedroom house with basement and I can say that downsizing is a process, especially when it’s your first time. You’re doing incredibly. Take your time and keep at it. You’ll know better what you need when you live in your new space for a while. I think that loft in the bedroom would look so nice with your plants and maybe a couple nice baskets.

I thought the same thing about the loft. Plants and organic looking baskets. It's such a beautiful spot. I'd hate to see plastic bins up there, personally.

I would suggest another round of decluttering. Also to not stock up or buy mega packs like 15 toilet rolls, idk if smaller packages are available? She lives close to stores so a refil is quick to buy- What exiting journey! So happy her green cupboard made it into the house.

Great job, Team! Is it too full for me? Sure, but is it my home? Nope! 😊. Becky, if you can muster up the energy, then how about every day til the end of the year, you declutter 1 item on the 1st of the month, 2 on the 2nd, and so on. Maybe only ever go up to the 7th or 8th of the month so it doesn't feel too overwhelming and gives you a break before starting afresh each month. The other thing is not bringing more in and using up what you have...Perhaps you could also start a "because I didnt buy xxx" fund and put the money in a jar and at the end of the year, you’ll have a nice amount to go on a day out/trip. But you're doing great, and it's your home - so just kick back and enjoy xx

What a lovely home! ❤ If not another pass, then maybe a 'no toiletry purchases' agreement until some of the multiples are used up 😊

Yes, I would definitely encourage another decluttering pass. Freeing up space having less is so much more calming and relaxing and esthetically pleasing. We all don't need as much stufff as we think we do. It's so much easier to maintain and clean and etc. We moved many many times and the less you have the better and less stress. I love her cute little home and I enjoy all these videos! Thank you! 💖 🤗

Well done Becky and belated birthday wishes 🎉. Your home is so cute and youve done so much letting go of so much already prior to moving. That said i feel to keep the charm of your new home less will become more. Hey but only you know when your ready...babysteps. Maybe store bathroom extras in clear box outside of bathroom in storage space?

i think she STILL has too much stuff and should declutter more. She’s already in a tight space, may as well declutter a tiny bit more so she can breathe and move around her new space.

If I were living alone I would have a bed, some clothes, a closet, 2 dishes, 2 cups, utensils, a frying pan, a pan, some plants and a Bible. You really don’t need all that much.

I love when a piece of storage or furniture fits just right!! 😍 So satisfying!!! But I do think Becky could only benefit from another pass through. The space is small and the amount of stuff makes it smaller. It's obvi still in a fluctuation phase, but less furniture would make it easier to move. One thing I learned over the years was to make use of the space I had. Meaning, My room might be tiny, but my ceiling is at least half a person taller than me (I'm 5'6''). So I searched for a bookshelf that optimized my vertical space and I could consume less horizontal space. It also helped the room feel bigger and less crowded. Not to mention easier to navigate through on a daily 🤍 I hope my lessons learned through my trials and tribulations can help someone 😄🫶✨ I can't wait to see how her space turns out 🤍🤍

All the makeup and cosmetics definitely need a second pass. There is no way all of that was acquired less than 2 years ago, so let the old go and your skin/body and your new space will thank you for allowing it to be a peaceful and calm place to be!
@ariesmry5 ай бұрын
exactly! I'm sure a good chunk of the cosmetics and personal items are expired
@sophieschoices96635 ай бұрын
I just commented this! Most cosmetics and make up expire within a year (some even less) after opening them, you need to check that symbol that says how many months after opening. Hopefully they have already checked but I'm also surprised how there can be so much stuff, unless she bought it all within the last year or most of it has never been open?🤔 Something to double check for sure!😊

It's suuuch a cute place! I'd love to live there haha, but I'd definitely downsize some more with the stuff.. maybe get rid of some of the tiny cabinets.. it's still giving 'crowded', even if she's a maximalist, it can be a little calmer.

The declutter doesn’t happen overnight. I’m sure there will be more opportunities to purge what she doesn’t need. Happy Birthday and congratulations on your new home! ❤ Great work, Carla. Every time I watch your videos I get inspired to do more.

Yes to the curtain covering the closet. It will greatly reduce the dust getting in her clothing.❤

I relate to Becky because I like sentimental stuff too. Becky inspires me, I declutter slowly and I feel better. I like how you organized the bathroom but everything in the shelves will become dusty: fallen hair, dust, paper toilet lint. It will be a chore to keep the items spotless. I suggest to keep the items at a minimum. I would not put small objects over the toilet, they can fall in the toilet and they might block the toilet. That happened to me; not fun. I wonder it the shower curtain could be contained in a manner, when it is dry, it would open the space. Keep the good work coming both of you , it will be really nice once you are done. The place is amazing!

you could add felt stickers under the shelf unit in the bathroom that doesnt have wheels. that way it's easier to pull out 27:20

Becky, this is not an easy task. We downsized from 1257 sq ft - 576 sq ft, two humans and one cute Cocker Spaniel. I downsized from 4-2 small plastic bins today. It’s a constant process and we have lived here since 2019. We are consistently donating and tossing and turning our space into something we love. Living in it and realizing…”oh I guess I don’t use that”. It all takes time. We even grocery shop & cook differently. My husband and I take on two-three reno projects some big some small a year. We live within the space enough to know what works best. Like window curtains…I hate them. We live in the desert and it’s dusty so shutters are high on our list. You will continue to refine your space and make it your own and it will all come naturally to you. Happy Birthday beautiful keep moving forward and allowing your space to clear and open up to new things #abundance 😊❤❤❤❤❤

Part of the reason the comments are so sweet is you are a gem!!! You make watching so much fun. Another pass for Becky. I am not a minimalist, but try to only keep what I need. One deodorant, one lotion, etc. And, I want you to make a playlist of the music. I love the variety, So enjoyable.
