Thanks to MSI for sponsoring this video! Purchase an MSI Motherboard from Amazon at: geni.us/s3QsHs
This motherboard costs over $2000. Why does it cost that much? Is it genuinely GODLIKE? Anthony takes a look at MSI's most expensive consumer motherboard for the Z690 line, but you might want to take a look at something else.
Purchases made through some store links may provide some compensation to Linus Media Group.

@@christophermzdenek the added ram and cooler certainly put the price a little more into perspective, but its still about 2x the price it should be. they showed the $600 board has basically everything this board has except the 10g lan and 1 less m2 slot (and who needs 5 let alone 6). i wouldnt buy this simply because i dont want their crappy water cooler when i already have an nh-d15, but even if they took that out id not pay more than ~$850 for this, id just get the $600 one, or even another step down from it instead.

When did Intel become a name in 10GbE? In the server realm, Intel and Aquantia/Marvell were always the de facto budget options. Few of their offerings have strong standards support, offloading, or memory capability at all. Aquantia at least has surprisingly good support with regular firmware updates all the way back to their 100 series, whereas Intel seemingly bifurcated their hardware stack. Where are the better controllers? Chelsio or Mellanox, perhaps? Granted, home users won't realize the benefits, but these boards are dual PHY populated. Why not offer memory for offloading? That said, I'm certain the answer is RJ45 PHY is far too laggy for anything serious, so anyone running RJ45 ethernet won't notice our cheap Aquantia or Intel controllers. =/

The ASUS ProArt Z690-CREATOR would give you most of what this PRACTICALLY gives you for 23% the price (B&H). You will never put a card in the third PCI slot. It blocks the front panel switch wires and hits the PS on most cases. Great Video!

5:37 even if eARC becomes a thing, Windows 7 has already bit the dust so it won't matter... Unless the backwards compatible ARC just works on 7. Does Windows 7 support HDMI 2.1 I can't find a result online. As far as I know, HDMI to Windows 7 is like DirectX-DP1.4 (HDMI 1.4b feature level). Someone please QD-OLED past the PG35VQ I'm waiting to not buy that thing.

I mean, it's not that overpriced anymore when you consider the cpu cooler and the ram they give you in the box as well. those two together are likely around 700-800$ already, so the motherboard is more around the 1200$ mark. still a lot, but far from overly extreme as I've seen a couple in that price range already.

> It's weird that motherboards still have TOSLINK, isn't it? *looks nervously at his bookshelf speakers set to optical input* I've always been strongly of the opinion that for noise reasons you should keep your analog signal paths as short as possible, and put your A-D/D-A conversions close as you can to the analog sink/source. The most effective way to eliminate analog noise - more impact than all the shielding in the world - is to put as much distance as you can between the conversion and the other high-density, high-speed digital signals on the motherboard. I don't give a toss about 7.1 channel analog line-level outputs (honestly, who isn't using an HDMI-equipped receiver for surround sound these days?) but TOSLINK is a make-or-break feature for me.

Roman's video was so honest about this. Probably because he spent his own money on it iirc. That removable module is awful (like half the functions don't even work, and aesthetically once it's removed it looks terrible), and the included AIO is a bit of a joke for a 2k+ mobo aimed at extreme overclocking. Those people will be using custom loop or exotic cooling anyway. It's basically just wasted money.

My latest is an ASUS Pro W790 ACE with a W7-2495X and 512GB DDR5 ECC. But I do like watching the high-end gear videos, just to see what is out there.

“Weird that motherboards still have [optical] TOSLINK isn’t it?” …Why the hell would it not? It’s the only noise-free way to get audio out of a computer, provided it’s being reclocked somewhere. Unless you’re gonna try and implement I2S, I don’t see a more up-to-date alternative.

Srsly for anyone buying this board, 16G*2 of DDR5 5200 is pretty lame. They’d rather have 32*2 4800 or 16*2 6400 cl32. If those were included then it might justify the price.
