Drop $200 and you can get boost by gear to hold traction through 1st and 2nd ;) Stock fuel rail works just fine. No need to upgrade that. I'm pushing almost 500hp stock bottom end, stock rail with 130k on it, haha. Then again I take care of my shit, haha.

NSRT4s are pretty awesome out the box. my bros 2005 made 238whp and 262wtq stock. after an intake, exhaust, bigger intercooler, tuned ecm, waste gate/bov, turbo is pushing 18-20psi instead of the stock 12-15psi and other non hp mods, wider better tires, bigger radiator, bigger brakes etc... now it makes 286whp and 311wtq it used to spin all 1st and half of 2nd and would run like 6sec 0-60 mostly because of traction. and 14sec 1/4 mile after some wider wheels and summer tires and sticky sticky rubber, and mods, now it does right under 5sec 0-60 and near 12 sec runs. it can still spin all 1st and 2nd but you have wayyyyyyyy more traction. he beats almost any stock sporty car on the street. m3s, c5 corvettes, 5.0 mustangs, camaros, anything with ~450 hp and down he can beat. keep in mind the car only weighs 2800lbs. Half the cars out there weigh over 3200lbs. mustangs weigh 3500-3800lbs that's 1000lbs heavier than the NSRT4 he gets good mpgs and u can haul the whole family. a/c, good stock sound system. the ride is a bit stiff but. meh.. the interior sucks but mehh .. people bag on NSRT4s cuz they're still a neon but mehh. it'll still spank u lol
@NoTraction7 жыл бұрын
That's Awesome! They are definitely fun little cars for the money! You can make them pretty fast with just bolt ons like you mentioned. Also, I definitely agree your opinion on the interior, but to be fair, there aren't many great interiors around this time period, unless you spent double the amount of money on a vehicle
@bigwillchill7 жыл бұрын
No Traction you're right. even import cars around the 2000s were pretty crappy. my focus has a better interior lol but I only have 160hp and 146tq at the crank soo I'm jealous AF We're living in the best car era ever so enjoy it before gasoline engines become illegal
@largos72898 жыл бұрын
with the traction you have to replace all the mounts with solid ones, every mount. Most just do the upper and lower, the trans mount has to be done too. Then if you can the A-arms replace the bushing with an insert. It's almost like a rear wheel drive car at that point.
@njshift8 жыл бұрын
The more you modify a car the more potential problems may occur. That's pretty much the rule of thumb for any car. Fwd isn't the best choice for going fast but it can still be done. Not everyone wants to build a rwd v8 or awd import. The obscurity of the srt4 is what makes it so unique.

The statement "If you are going over 500 horsepower, you'll need to upgrade the internals on the engine" as part of the question "is it worth building" is rather funny, considering that you wouldn't find another car remotely close to the SRT's class that would survive much beyond 350 hp. The idea that somehow 500 hp is "low" in terms of what the internals can hold is ignorant. That's a very high number compared to most 4 cylinder engines.

@NoTraction7 жыл бұрын

they are a bitch to keep traction. I had a 50 trim e85 srt4 and would light the tires from 1st to 3rd. That was on shitty used street tires lol. But I did fix the problem by getting a boost box from n2mb so i ran boost by gear and had toyo r888 in the front (best daily tire for traction imo). Would only spin 1st gear and only slightly spin in 2nd and dead hook 3rd. This was all at around 450whp

geoff0707 hey man im planning on buying a srt 4 this month anything i should look out for? And what should be my first upgrades?
@geoff07078 жыл бұрын
First make sure the car doesnt have any boost leaks because that can be a pain to find where its coming from sometimes. My srt4 was an 03 I HIGHLY suggest you get an 03 because it has a better tranny than the 04 and 05. The 04/05 does have lsd but are more prone to third gear problems. My buddies stock 05 srt4 had a 3rd gear grind while mines was perfect. As for upgrades go to google and search "Srt4 upgrade path" Pick the first one and it will literally tell you everything you need to do for the car from maintenance all the way to how to get over 300whp. These cars are a lot of fun and I still miss mine till this very day! oh and btw definitely get a wot box from n2mb that is a must have for this car

You out of your mind dude you can get a PTE 5431 kit for 1600 from ATP, to get to low 400-425hp maybe 2500 3 at the most, my friend has one as well on a base tune from duster with injectors and fuel pump on e85 spiking 24-25 psi and it made 337
@NoTraction5 жыл бұрын
You are somewhat correct. However you are forgetting supporting mods that add up fast. Injectors, fuel pump prob return line, tuner, the tune, 3inch exhaust all the way back, upgraded clutch cuz stock will not hold, I think that turbo needs a reducer... if you leave intake at the same spot. prob a cold air intake if you went with all the above. I am sure I'm missing some small things.. Can you do it cheaper than I mention? Yes. Can you do it correctly, if you know what you are doing and scavage sales and used parts? Yes. But the avg person will be in it MUCH more than 1600. People often underestimate what it truely costs to build a car. You need all these mods to make 400+ on a stock engine. How do I know? Cuz I have a neon that has a built engine and makes that power level now

Ivan Arturo Alvarado definitely avoid rust. It's like cancer and hard to stop. Also 3rd gear can be an issue with these, make sure that it doesn't grind shifting up to it or down to it. The lower the miles, and closer to stock, the less likely it is to be beat on or a lemon. If it built, make sure it was done right. Lastly, even though this is an easier fix, sometimes the axles in these cars go out from launching them. Make sure the car drives snooth. Best of Luck to you, they're fun cars!
