Hardly ever mentioned, yet one of the greatest things about boxers, is how the cylinders protect the feet, legs, and bike when the bike lays down on the side. They also keep the lower legs warm.
@SamVBikes3 жыл бұрын
Very true! I suppose you don't think about it until you get off it on a cold/wet ride and realise the bottom of your legs are drier than the rest if you!

I rode a R Nine T yesterday when the BMW test bike truck was at the Nashville TN dealer. I was very impressed with how responsive the engine was compared to my heavier RT and how quick the handling was. Because I like to ride more than twenty or thirty miles at a stretch, the seat is the largest personal negative, but for a short trips, the bike is outstanding. For me, the other naked bike that is barrels of smiles to ride is the Speed Twin, but that bike has a chain drive and no cruise control, but then again, a cruise control isn’t of great need on a short-trip fun machine.
@SamVBikes2 жыл бұрын
Agreed! Any of these type of bikes don't have a great seat for any length of time sat in one position. More than comfortable enough if you're moving around on back roads though and those short stints on the motorway. I'm yet to get on the Speed Twin. Ridden the T120 but need to get my leg over a Speed Twin! Thanks for watching

So for anyone who thinks the boxer engine on the R nineT is too disruptive, I got to drive one after driving an RT, RS and GS. I thought about the comments when I first got one the bike and when I started it, I thought... that was awesome! I love the way it felt, like an old muscle car but refined. I drove it for 30 minutes and I couldn't belive how much I enjoyed driving this motorcycle. I love how the refinement meets the raw feeling of a naked/cafe bike dynamic.

Just stumbled onto this vid. I bought one 2 weeks ago and love it. It is quiet, especially around town. Only really hear it beyond 5k revs. The handling is so sweet and as you say on the motorway it’s clean air with no turbulence so can manage long stints. I’m loving the LED front light, my one ‘corners’ too at night which is useful. No fuel gauge but that’s down to the tank shape apparently. Counting up the miles is easy enough though so don’t miss it. Good review, thanks

Test rode NineTs during the Motorrad demo tour and what a disappointment it was. The engine is okay for puttering at 50-60 mph but the chassis doesn't inspire confidence at all. The R1250R is significantly better in every way, except the looks. BMW should restyle it like the NineT.

Euro 5 has just added more restrictive junk that you need to pull off. Save yourself the money and get the original , spend the rest on upgrades. The older ones sound better stock, and have a bit more power.
@kowalski23343 жыл бұрын
if you already have an rninet it is not worth it to "upgrade" at all imo and even if you think of buying into the r9t range i would still buy an euro 4 or 3 model, save some bucks and invest them into a good suspension or other mods.
@SamVBikes3 жыл бұрын
I agree, it's worth buying one of these if you're looking at an R9T but if you already have one it's not worth the 13.5k to upgrade for cruise and some other small features!

have you ridden the old 9T? I have one and people are saying that this new one has had its character eviscerated due to the Euro5 compliance. Don't think I'll be able to test it before winter sets in, but it definitely deserves a comparison
@SamVBikes3 жыл бұрын
It's still very much an R Nine T, but it's not as much of an experience to ride. Like I said in the ride, not entirely sure if that's to do with the lack of Akrapovic exhaust too. It's still a great bike though
@domd23043 жыл бұрын
I have a 2020 Euro 4 and rode a 2021 Euro 5 as a loaner while mine was getting serviced. The Euro 5 felt hugely dissapointing coming straight off my euro 4. This is down to a few things - 1. The ride by wire throttle feels like a flimsy plastic toy throttle with no feedback and way too light - really feels terrible, cheap and toy like. The throttle response off idle is also worse and it's more snatchy off idle. 2. The noise, or lack thereoff from the exhaust. 3. Less vibration and character from the engine, 4. Way less engine braking - those 4 things together make the experience hugely less engaging and make the bike feel very bland and toy-like by comparison. In addition, it reminded me how bad the stock mirrors are, how high and swept back the bars are, and how low the seat is - really makes you feel super upright like sitting at a desk, and on top of rather than in the bike. This is easily sorted with aftermarket lower bars and better mirrors (rizoma sky r 80mm bar end mirrors are sooo much more functional) and less easily by raising the rear end 25-30mm with a better rear shock.
@SamVBikes3 жыл бұрын
Interesting to hear! I've ridden the euro 4 bike a number of times and the new bike definitely felt a lot more muted. I suppose you could sort some of it with an aftermarket exhaust and bars/Mirrors like you say, but that Throttle response would only be a remap to solve
@domd23043 жыл бұрын
@@SamVBikes yeah you could sort out most of it most likely (if you feel the need to - some might prefer it I guess). But moreso than the throttle response I feel BMW did a very poor job of the mechanical feel (or lack of) of the throttle - other manufacturers do a much better job of tuning that feel with various springs, and magnets etc to get a closer feel to an actual mechanical/cable throttle.
@SamVBikes3 жыл бұрын
I suppose it also depends what you're using the bike for. The cruise control is a useful thing, but if you're not going to miss it, save yourself £5k+ and buy a year old 2nd hand euro 4 bike! Use that money to buy exhausts, new Headlights etc

Thank you for the like and sub! The 2017 model is a cracking bike, with arguably more character as its not being strangled by the euro5 regs.
