Hei og velkommen til Norge. A norwegian here. It`s super great to see when non local norwegians reacts or talk about our country, it means alot to us and we find it interesting to get a outside view on pros and cons. We norwegians are quite shy even though we`re a really happy country over all like even as a norwegian i find the same problem over the whole country which makes it hard and it will take time to get friends as a foreigner but it`s just how it`s. Don`t hasitate to speak to us. We will be more then happy to help.

Now, I am a Norwegian myself, and I would suggest the following: What are your interests and hobbies? There are SO many different clubs and societies in Norway, so it should really be possible to find one or two that appeal to you also! Are you interested in any kind of sports or outdoor activities? No problem, then. Tennis, golf, football, winter sports - you name it - there will be relevant clubs that would welcome you with open arms. Do you play bridge - or chess? - no problem there either! Politically interested? - religion? - literature? - search the Internet for meeting places. Or ask your neighbors. Good luck!

I'm French, I moved to the US in 1990 and we ended up buying a "vacation" house in Southern France, in the Pyrenees last year. I totally relate to your questions. After 30 years in the US it's hard to decide where I want to be. I do love New England and France is lovely, but it's very hard to make friends in either place. I've lost my friends in France from when I used to live there and Americans don't have friends and don't need them. What Americans call friends are what I used to call acquaintances.I did look at Norway to buy a house, instead of buying in France, and I'm not excluding selling my house in France to buy a second house in Norway to where I'll go, maybe just in the summer. But frankly, after doing a huge amount of research, I'm a little worried about Norway. Yes, it's truly beautiful, but so is Kashmir, that doesn't mean I would want to live there! I'm also worried about what I've heard, from foreigners and many Norwegians too, about the drinking culture in Norway. Sure the country is said to be one of the happiest in the world, but is that true? Do happy people need to drink that much? Also, the way Norwegians handle friends and friendships, particularly as adults, is worrisome to me. So would it be worth it for me to move to a beautiful country where it would be as hard, or harder to make real friends than what it is in the US?

I think that making friends is difficult in every country in the world. According to my experience, you should first initiate a search for acquaintances, and this will help you learn the language, especially if you like the culture of the country and their way of life, it will be easy to integrate with them.

Sounds to me that you live in diaspora; creating romantic fantasies about ˋlife back homeˋ and the fear of missing outl This is a normal state of mind when you live abroad. I am Norwegian, but I grew up as a «third culture kid». I can see myself in you. It takes many years to re-orginaze life, like you are doing now to integrate. It can feel very lonsome to be on ˋthe outsideˋ looking in to a society you did not grow up in. No wonder you miss people ˋback homeˋ you can relate to. It is a sensitive experience. People talk like moving to another country is an adventure. In reality it is hard work, lonlyness and tears, joyful moments and fear. It takes all of you as a human. You discover things about yourself and your patterns that you whish you did not see. In all this confusion you also mature. Get wiser. Discover how to navigate in a strange land. Knowledge you will need in many situations for the rest of your life, no matter where you choose to live in the end. The book «Thirs´d culture kids» teaches you how normal your reactions are, why you respond this way and it teaches you to identify the lack of cultural knowledge does to you. This book helped me to understand my reactions. And to accept how normal and healty my reactions were. I whish you well. Thanks for sharing this very honest and interesting video. I feel deep respect for you. Big hugs from Oslo❤️❤️❤️

Indeed, this is what I went through when I moved to live in Spain. I felt like a stranger and afraid to meet friends to learn the language, but after a while I broke the barrier of fear and integrated into European society, and I am currently thinking of Norway because of the beauty of its nature.

Alcohol or atleast pretending to drink alcohol is the key to making norwegian friends :) Find yourself a houseparty and just go right in and mix, norwegians love to try out their norwegian-english accents and you have an obvious x-factor, you are pretty :) You don't need to drink yourself, but just surround yourself with people that do and you will make friends for life. I have made several friends from both Germany and the Netherlands by hiking alone, shown them around, so i'm one of them who opens up on a good hike, hehe.. I am a "social very light drinker" (if there is such a thing), and I might as well socialize with just coffee, tea or other beverages. Don`t believe in these silly stereotypes, Andre, there are always exceptions. Opinion polls show that young people today consume less alcohol than their parents did, more people have become health conscious, the number of people smoking cigarettes have dropped considerably..

@@bjrnjensen7074 Sadly Byørn, I dated one of those stereotypes...A nice Norwegian/German girl that was an ex rock singer. Of course it's bad to generalize, but any country that has long dark winters and other factors that lead to alcohol over consumption and related activities teaches you to exercise caution. The bad stereotypes are not rare. As you pass through your twenties you drink more or you drink less. When you drink less, you develop a different perspective and you see the damage... The acute damage and the chronic damage, both. Being alone is not a good reason for social drinking or more. Just my opinion only.
