There's a little detail visible between 5:40 and 5:44 in your video that even most Viennese don't know about: St. Stephen's is the only cathedral that still kept female and male reproductive organs as fertility symbols in stone. You can find them on the Romanesque facade (which was kept when the main building was rebuilt in Gothic style). These symbols used to be on most cathedrals but got removed, as the Gothic times were less down to earth and more about uplifting spiritual experience. See if you can find them (the male is a bit easier to see to the left of the main entrance, the female is to the right)

About the vegetarian schnitzel: the crust not sticking to the non-meat is a sign of good schnitzel technique - no idea how it's called in English, but a good schnitzel muss sufflieren - the crust has to puff away from the meat and form air bubbles. Btw, if you are into history, I'd recommend Carnuntum as a daytrip

Hey guys. Love your stuff. Please read a Schnitzel recipe. Original is veal, that‘s a Wiener Schnitzel. Of course you can choose different meat versions. But what is canon to all Schnitzels: the breadcrust MUST NOT stick to the meat. The Schnitzel is only perfect as soon as the breadcrust „hovers“ above the meat. Believe or read. 🙃
@NearFromHome6 ай бұрын
I’m never eating Schnitzel on camera again, it’s too hard 🤥
@michaelgrabner89777 ай бұрын
According to Schnitzel breading ...you were right and wrong at the same time. "Yes" the breading shouldn´t fall off - but - "No" the breading should not stick on the meat. I´m aware that sounds now like a contradiction but it actually isn´t and that´s how the breadcoat has to be for a Wiener Schnitzel. The breading´s surface has to be "wavy" in order to be "correct" for a Wiener Schnitzel therefore it must not stick on the meat. BUT the crispy breading must not break and crumble when you cut it because if it does than it will "fall off" which it shoudn´t at all = The "Art" is to avoid both due to the right making = 4 substantial rules 1. Don´t press with the hands the beadcrumbs on the meat, just a very easy soft touch is allowed = pressing the breadcrumbs on the meat that´s the most common mistake 2.Tap off the surplus of flour before you put the Schnitzel into the eggwash but be sure the entire Schnitzel is still fully covered with flour (that will avoid that the breadcoat breaks) 3.The eggwash has to cover the Schnitzel entirely so no flour is to been seen anymore so be sure there are always enough eggs for the eggwash (that will also avoid that the breadcoat breaks) 4. You have to keep the right temperatured oil or fat ( = either clarified butter or lard or a mixture of all of those or just 2 of those) moving while frying the Schnitzel in order to loosen the breadcoat from the meat in order to avoid sticking on the meat = permanent pivoting the pan during the whole frying process. Actually Figlmüller´Schnitzel breading is on the very egde to be considered as "correct" because it is just very barly wavy but almost "flat" like a "carpet" and that´s what we Viennese call disparaging "Bröselteppich/"breadcrumb-carpet" instead of "Wiener Schnitzel"

You pointed out the radar tower being in better condition than the gun tower. Thing is that one is the only one that's damaged at all and due to a failed demolition attempt. Love this video! It is always nice to see an outside perspective. Some suggestions for next time: - Römermuseum: The city of Vienna has its own Roman Museum where they showcase a lot about that era and how it still influences Vienna. The city has its own team of archaeologists that are part of every large excavation project to ensure nothing gets lost. It’s about a 10-minute walk from where you said you would like to see more about Roman history in Vienna. 😅 - Wien Museum: It reopened in December 2023. The permanent exhibition displays the history and art from the Stone Age up to the present day. The permanent exhibit is free, and from the terrace, you have a beautiful view of the Karls Kirche-perfect for shots. If you contact them in advance, they might even let you film for your channel. - Aida Kaffee: You might have seen some pink coffee shops. They have the same color as the Punschkrapferl (Viennese rum cakes). It is good, affordable, and very Viennese. - Musikverein and/or Konzerthaus: If classical music is of interest, you should see a concert in one of the historic concert halls. - Carnuntum: This is about an hour’s drive from Vienna, but if Roman history is a passion, it might also be of interest. It is a museum/historic recreation of a Roman city. Most kids visit it as part of their school curriculum in Austria. Also loved that you picked the Volksoper (People’s Opera). The State Opera is also nice, but I kind of prefer the one you went to. However, the State Opera (Staatsoper) has screens in front of every seat that let you choose subtitles in your preferred language. Hope this helps a little, and hope to have you back soon!

Nice! 🙂 3:37 Not "zone", "district" 5:21 nobody calls the Viennese city centre "Altstadt". The first district (= the original city of Vienna surrounded by city walls - the space later became the Ringstraße) is officially called "Innere Stadt", locals also say "Innenstadt" or "Zentrum" or use some specific location, but never "Altstadt". All other districts once were towns and villages on their own and later incorporated into Vienna. 25:50 the dark stuff probably is Styrian pumpkin seed oil ("Kürbiskernöl" or simply "Kernöl") - I use it on many salads, Styrians put it on almost everything. Also, this is not just potato salad, it is also "Vogerlsalat" on top ("Feldsalat" in German German, various English names).

Mostly I am saying Altstadt as it is a sort of a thing on this channel. A recurring segment. Where I live in Munich, and most of the Bavarian towns and cities I’ve covered, they call it the Altstadt and so in video after video after video we start our city tours walking the Altstadt City Center. Granted I would have guessed that you guys use that word too, but I was saying less about Vienna and more about making a call back to all the other videos. If I changed the word, it’d rhyme less with the other videos. So I just stuck to what I’m used to saying. Not gonna lie though :) Zentrum and Innenstadt don’t sound nearly as charming.

@@NearFromHome Of course I'm Viennese. We're rated the rudest city on earth because we demand standards, which in turn also make us the most liveable city on earth.

I'm Leo, and I think your video was incredible given the little time you had in Vienna. Being from Vienna, I'd like to say you captured the vibe and energy of this city in a brief thirty-minute video. Because of the editing and the enthusiastic moderation, the video pulled me in, and I didn't even notice that the video was 30 minutes long. In conclusion, I want to say that I liked how you took your time and didn't rush things. The vibe was like the akin flow of the music in the city and the Danube. On the other hand, when I see the comments from other Viennese people, don't take them personally. I think we Viennese want to be “exakt or punktgenau” like it is called in German, or in English we strive to be precise with many things🧾, sometimes it is called “meckern auf hohem Niveau” when we do that all the time😅. Which is why the conversation in the comments about the right schnitzel, the rules of our opera, and many other comments could feel rude or mean to someone, who is just trying to show this country or isn't familiar with the culture. But I believe most people don't mean it negatively, and we simply want our culture to be represented in the formal correct way😂📏📐 (Btw that is, right there, the real cultural experience of Viennese people😉:D, many of them not all). So don't take these comments too personally or let them ruin your experience here. You definitely gained a like and subscriber, however I will refrain now from giving recommendations because I think the other Viennese individuals in the comments did certainly give enough. If you should return, do whatever is on your mind or what you are interested in. Bye!😉👍

Thank you so much! These are exactly the compliments we want to hear :D We live in Munich, and are very used to these types of comments from Münchner. I think they have a lot in common with the Viennese. lol

Yawn! Figlmüller is only for tourists. No Viennese would ever go there. And it´s in every single vlog about Vienna. I think it's even the first ad you see when you arrive at the airport! Apart from that, congratulations on completely different sights to all the other same old same old.

Yeah. There is a sort of tactical element to all of this from my perspective. If I include it, people will comment that I included it, and if I exclude it then others will comment wanting to know my opinion of it. So yeah, really I just went for my own curiosity. Both of these Vienna videos we made are very “your first timer focussed. If we come back, which I’m sure we will, there are definitely deeper cuts I’d like to make.

Im Ersten obviously. Thats becoming more and more like Disneyland. Super hostile to drivers. I live near hoher markt and I drive my car. I wont move away for tourists and I wont give up my car. See me drive around in circles every day after work because a garage is 400€ each month. I invite you to join, sometimes its only 2 minutes, sometimes 30 and sometimes I just leave the car wherever and accept the 36€ fine. I know its hard to understand, I know... But this is my home and the city wasnt like this so many years ago. I stay to the end, even if I am not welcome.

If you live in Innere Stadt you should have the money to afford a € 400 garage. 😂 Parking in the city has always been difficult, but the few parking spaces there are "Anrainerzone" anyway so shouldn't be a problem for you. Greetings from Transdanubien! 😉

It's actually Flakturm without a C, there are three different ways of building. The one in your game looks like more type 2 to me because of the round circles on top. The one Flakturm with the aquarium in Vienna is called "Haus des Meeres" (house of oceans) and has a Foltermuseum (torture museum) and Kletterwand (climbing wall). The two Flakturm in Augarten are actually destroyed inside because of accidental explosion of ammunition in 1946. They look fine on the outside but aren't visitable. I would recommend Champignonschnitzel = is with mushroom sauce, but yes unbreaded. Rahmschnitzel is also with sauce (again unbreaded). If you want differend breading: Pariser Schnitzel or Kürbiskernschnitzel. Last one is only seasonal.
@andreeawe6 ай бұрын
I agree with suggesting Haus des Meeres, however the Foltermuseum has been closed down for good.

The Flaktürmer have such an interesting history. :O I have never heard of Kürbiskernschnitzel, but that sounds amazing.

@@andreeawe As far as I know there is a gaming hall where the Foltermuseum used to be. The exhibits moved to Carinthia to Someregg castle. I disagree with "for good" as it was a popular tourist stop. Also it is an interesting exhibition from torture intruments that used over the antique to middle ages. Learning from history means to understand what have happened. And to not let it happened again. And believe me.. there are people that don't understand how cruesome people can and will hurt other people. For the most craziest reasons. Or why would Amnesty International patronize exhibits for things like torture museum? Torture is still used today. Sadly. Look at the news ... the exhibits might be outdated.. but it is still relevant today.
