What an epic episode to finish the year off. Really enjoyed all of the video and your research of the Dolomites has really paid off, giving your customers the best shooting and workshop experience and there were plenty of Kingjoy tripods on view so I could get my fix 😏. The slipstreaming method definitely works, 😂, I used to do it when towing our caravan much to the annoyance of the Mrs. Looking forward to next year’s episodes guys and all the best for Xmas and the New Year.

Lovely photography but could the channel stop spouting off about full frame as if it is the only format that matters? My Micro Four Thirds system (Olympus or OM-D) would have been a much better choice in Venice or the Dolomites. Much less in your face for street photography and super lightweight for travel. I am sitting under an A1 print of a photo I took earlier this year in the mountains. Hand held, lightweight camera and lens and absolute perfection of an image.

@@ColinMatheson-j6o hi Colin. You are correct that smaller sensors offer the advantage of lighter equipment, but that’s where the advantages end. Everything else, such as increased DOF, can be replicated by a larger sensor camera simply by cropping. However, a smaller sensor camera can’t replicate the shallow DOF of a larger sensor. Add to that the increased dynamic range and lower noise performance and the only advantage to MFT is portability. If this is important to you then this justifies having a smaller camera, but for anyone prepared to carry around a larger camera, the benefits are many. We plan to do a feature about the best value sensor sizes soon, so hopefully this will help to illustrate the pros and cons of each system. Thanks for watching.
@MarkiesjeElco
@MarkiesjeElco Ай бұрын
@@PhotographyOnline I wonder why you're not using medium format. It has the advantages of full frame even more: even better image quality, better dynamic range, shallower DOF. To get the same wider DOF you need a much slower shutter speed and/or higher ISO, but that's not a disadvantage, right? Weight, size and costs don't matter too. Or are those advantages more important than you thought? What is more important for most photographers? Enjoying having their camera with them while getting very decent results, or dragging their equipment to get slightly better results that aren't noticable in most use cases (like posting on Facebook/Instagram, printing a photo album with photo size 10x15cm, making occasionally a poster of 40x60cm) and in the end leaving it at home, because of size and weight? Yes, portrait photography is easier with full frame sensor than MFT. But in macro photography or wildlife photography MFT runs circles around full frame. In those cases the lighter weight, wider DOF really is a big advantage. For street photography the less conspicuous size of MFT is absolutely a bonus. Landscape or architecture photography don't get real advantage from either system, but then the better IBIS in at least Olympus/OM System is a big advantage, along with the computational features like high res and build in ND filter. You obviously don't know MFT well enough to make a good assessment of the advantages and disadvantages of the system

@@MarkiesjeElco I'm with you. I happen to shoot mostly APS-C, but I dislike the term "full frame" because it implies it's some gold standard when in fact it's only claim to fame is that it's the same format as 35mm film, which is frankly irrelevant for digital. If I get my film cameras out I will be using either 35mm or 645. Fine, all three give me different DOF, but there's not one of these that's "right" nor one that's "wrong", each has its own uses as does MFT and all of Marcus' larger format film cameras. You could say, why would I take out a 35mm camera; all I'm doing is cropping my 645 so I'd be better with that. Then, you talk about shallow depth of field; what do "full frame" digital shooters end up doing? focus stacking tens of images to increase it. Horses for courses.

I ran into the reciprocity loop just a few days ago! I mainly black and white, so I'm thinking one solution will be bringing a few sheets of HP5 along so in a pinch I can push that to 1600 and still get a reasonably clean image on 4x5. Might buy enough time to get that one extra shot.

I have subscribed to your channel even twice, from my personal account and from my KZbin channel from which I am writing now. And I've been watching your videos almost from the very beginning. I want to recommend you some interesting places to expand the geography of your visit for good shots. According to the content of this video- as opposed to Venice, you can visit St. Petersburg. It is called Venice of the north and it is closer to you geographically. And an alternative to the Dolomites can be a visit to the Caucasus with its pearl Elbrus and its surroundings. I live in Russia and can recommend many more beautiful places in our country, as it is huge and hospitable. Interesting places to visit and good shots for you in the coming year!

@PhotographyOnline The fighting is going on in certain areas and I did not invite you there. And in the rest of the country, everything is very calm. This is for information. And when to come and come or not- it's up to you, of course. But the development of new locations was useful for the development of the channel and for possible photo tours. For many people, our country is a kind of terra incognita. This is the "merit" of the Western media, which form an unsightly image of our country. Thanks for the reply, good luck.

Great video but for me what is missing from both trips is something which helps me understand how you will help me improve my photography. The Venice trip was more on “point” but the other less so. Also given the terrain and reference to the hike , it’s difficultly I suggest something needs to be adding about the support provided bynthebtwo hosts e,g. What experience do they have, are they trained to help people, do they have any medical background etc I say this as I have been 9n trips and it has been clear both the level of capability required to go on the hikes etc and the support offered by the tour guides should someone need support ,

It was interesting to see you using a telephoto lens in Venice (70-200?). Any other videos I’ve seen by other KZbin photographers seem to suggest that 28 or 35mm is the best option given the narrow streets, etc. Was there any reason for choosing a long zoom? Another interesting aspect that arose from this video was choosing gear to use when travelling. I’m looking at doing some travel next year and can’t make up my mind about whether to take my Canon 6D2, 24-70 and 70-200 or go for lightweight with my 200D and a couple of small prime lenses - 24 and 50mm - and just live with the limitations these force upon me. Any thoughts on this?

God forbid you'd encumber yourself with a bulky, heavy kit for the Dolomites. Nice job of winnowing down. Yeesh, the Dolomites workshop looks challenging; the operative part is "work". Do you offer "Dolomites for Duffers"? "Pinnacles for Poopouts"? They really are breathtaking, and I've been multiple times in the Sierra of California-years ago. It looks similar to the Minarets in the East Slope of the Sierra.
