Hello! Thanks so much for visiting my youtube ;D
Today theme is " Is Japan a woman's paradise ? "
Recently, I find so many woman's only services in Japan, for example woman's day, woman's off and so on..
It seems this trends is expanding.
So today I would like to share unique woman's only service and try to find out the reason for that.
If you are interesting in Japan, please visit my site !
I am sharing everyday photons here with non-Japanese friend, Lin ;D

Well, in my opinion its like this : Some Japanese feminists claims women are treated unfairly in terms of lower salary for the same job as her male counterpart, and that IS true. However, its also true, Japanese women enjoy so many benefits, such as the "special prices", special womens day for this or that, libraries, massage parlors, train cars and other thing for "women only" - hell even so many places have toilets for "women only" that i started to use womens toilets in emergencies.

As a guy, I don't mind that women get special treatment. What does bother me is when women expect to be treated equally, and at the same time expect special treatment. Then again that might not be a big issue in Japan,,

This trend is happening in the West too: women are marrying later, they have career and MONEY. In my country(New Zealand) girls do better at school and about 60% of people at university now are women. So in the future maybe women will be in charge, we have already had two female Prime Ministers. However in business, there are still very few women who are CEOs, or on company boards. Some countries like Norway have introduced a quota-----in Norway company boards must comprise at least 40% women. I think Japan is quite unique in the number of different services for women, as you have mentioned, maybe I should start a business catering to women, I will get rich. Thank you for your videos Komori-san, you are teaching us things we can't learn from a book.

Here in Brazil the government tried to put wagon trains for women, but the most part of the women don't like of it. Because we want equality and respect in the public transport in Brazil, and this include use the same wagon... I LOVE YOUT CHANNEL!!! PS: Sorry my poor english!!
@Yeoriollayo

+Rafaella Campanelli I think it's a great idea and liked it in Japan (didn't use it that much, though). I guess if equality and respect aren't there, it's almost impossible to achieve both within the population's mind. If you try to force equality (one wagon), you won't get enough respect. If you try to force respect (women's wagon), you won't have equality. At least I'm assuming these points from your cultural background and problem. Unfortunately, it's very hard to change minds of a whole population in a reasonable time

Hello! I just started watching your videos and they're informative. Thanks for sharing! There are many women's services in America, but some of the concepts in Japan seem more detailed, like for example I haven't seen Women's Stay type ideas or the cargo idea here. Those seem like they'd be appreciated here. A women's section on menus seems interesting, too, I guess for women whom really do eat small portions. As far as jobs: equal pay for equal work is finally getting more attention here.

She gave ONE example of an discount and yes, discounts help. The huge cinema in my city had a discount day for students and the whole thing was absolutely packed everytime. The other examples she gave were services catering to women. You don't seem to realise that most services focused on men before because they had the money. Now those services are still there and ADDITIONALLY they have services that cater to women. Sounds like a good business idea.

japann is one of the most safe countries in the world actually... and no people arent likely to chase you with a gun (lol) infact its extremely hard to even get your hands on one... you could leave your bag in the street for 12 hours and noone would steal it you could drop your phone and someone will pick it up for you and chase you with it to give it back... stores rarely have theft sensors due to the low crime rates... the list goes on.

Thanks! For your very nice question. The woman tend to quit job, if she have baby, because there are not so much social infrastructure to continue both work and raising children. However, gradually the government try to improve the situation. Second question is also interesting, Japanese woman very recently tend to be "straight-forward" because we start to get status, however, as you point it out, we can hardly be leader and its so big issue in Japan. Thanks so much for deep interest in Japan!

In England at least, you can buy pens or razors made for women, although they tend to be many times more expensive than the standard products. The only difference it usually the colour. I've heard a few women prefer male razors too because they shave closer.

Very interesting look at the Japanese culture from the inside. In the USA we are going through a similar trend of Female Awareness, but its more politically motivated than technologically. I think its smart how companies now sympathize with Japanese women, especially single Japanese women, and feel comfortable investing into their demographic. In the US there has always been the female specific industries such as skin care, cosmetics and hygienic products, but most products here are unisexual.

I love the idea of momen's only menu. I often can't finish my dinner at a restaurant because the servings are too big so it would be only fair to at least have the opportunity to pay less and get less food. I hate having to leave some on the plate, knowing that it will be thrown away. Sometimes I order a children's menu but some restaurants don't serve that to adults. :( In Germany we have women's only parking decks for safety reasons. This is the only thing that came to my mind.

A french girl who lives in Japan wrote an article i'm reading right now. It talks about many things, but it notices something quite rare in France, sexual harassment, this is something condemned by law and is quite well applied here. Perhaps this is one of the explanations we don't need to separate women from men (i don't talk about other problems here as this is not the subject, if you need the url and a translation of the article, don't hesitate to ask, i'll ganbarimasu ^_^ )

cont. 2: Oh and actually there is a trend of offering a regular and a smaller, cheaper serving of the menu in Germany. It's for everyone even though it is mainly used by women and that is all I am asking for. I don't want to pay for servings that are so big I can only finish half of it because the portions are supposed to make a hungy, average guy or an unusually big women happy. So yeah, I get what I want for less, if you like it or not. I don't want a women's menu, I want a not-dude-sized one.

Konbanwa Komori san, I think that's what I love the most about Japan. The Japanese economy pretty much takes care of everything there. They're so cautious about their country, their people. And I've read many times that a woman is behind every man's success, and in Japan she has more of a priority than a man. And I believe or that I've seen particularly that a woman can change a man completely and his behaviour as well.

In Korea, we have "women only parking area" in most department stores. It is usually located at very close area from the entering gates. I think there're two main reasons. First, it is regarded that women are less skillful in driving, so they provide more convenient area for women. Second, department stores are mainly for women guests, I guess. Thanks.

The US has the Equal Opportunity Employment Act so men and women get paid the same and have the same opportunities. In bars in the US we have ladies night where ladies drinks are 60% off. Or ladies drink free nights. Certain cosmetic and clothing stores will have Ladies Fashion's Night Out where the prices are discounted significantly for ladies. Shiseido does these ladies promotions. I can agree that it is not sexist if women are home more. It is expected of women to stay home with children, and not so much with men. Those that go against this order can experience resistance from employers etc. Women also get less pay for the same work as a men's, which shows that women and men do not have equal opportunity, which I think is what matters here. I think sexes are a specialisation, possibly evolved for survival. In our soft world it might not be needed to prosper any more.

The U.S. really needs a new gender-salary bill. We have laws specifying that no one can be discriminated against by employers based on gender, race, age, etc. But women still earn about 3/4 of what men earn for the same jobs. It's disgraceful considering how we usually act like we're the shining example of equality for the rest of the world :-(

Only women get private trains care. why cant men have private care so they don't have to be squished in the summer? There is no economical reason to have only woman trains. its because of chikan and other types of sex offenders. Also many things are helping woman be safe. like houses places to go, things to do, like that for the same reason. There are many things targeted to women, because japanese men don't get to have a life because of unwritten social work rules, so women go out and spend money. I have lived in Japan for a long time, and for me. these aren't positive things. i have 5 of my friends be victims or rape as well. so i don't think its as much of a paradise as you say it is.

Personally (at least here in the US) I think that would be a good idea. In America women make up to 60 cents less than men for the same work. It's even worse for women of color. So I don't agree necessarily for taxing men based on crime and violence but I agree to higher taxing on those who make more money and not on those who make less.

cont.: I don't think it would work in any western countries to have a women's menu with smaller servings because there are men who might prefer that as well. So no, I don't want that exclusively for women, I just want the option of smaller servings because the average serving is meant to be enough for a hungy guy and is too much for many average-sized women. I remain though that the women-only car is needed in Japan so the ladies don't have to deal with the groping, which IS an issue there.

I'm aware of the ladies nights in clubs. Free entrance and first drink to girls, high entrance cost for men and no free drinks etc. I complain about those as well and refuse to enter such businesses. However, watching a movie is a different social event from going to a club. It is worse to undercharge women at the movies, in my opinion. Also, if you'll not take my argument seriously and five me the old 'pregnancy' thing, I'll respond in kind. The day you pay alimony is the day you get 40% off.

In Sweden there was a politician who wanted to introduce a "man-tax" a while ago. "Man-tax" meaning higher tax for men, for being men (the motivation, I think, was higher crime rate, violence and such). It didn't pass, which I think was a good thing; I don't believe in collective punishment. * Btw, wouldn't it be better if there were w-sized portions and m-sized portions at restaurants and you could pick either (regardless of gender), rather than to have a female discount?*

Women may be treated well as consumers in Japan, but they are not treated as well in other areas. There are few female executives in business, few female politicians & fewer in high-ranking positions, few women in non-traditional occupations. Things still aren't equal in a lot of places. But hopefully if businesses consider women's opinions more often, it'll lead to more open attitude to women's contribution in other areas.

The situation seem to be changed, as you said, it is getting harder to afford all family expenses only by father's income.
