It truly amazes me the media criticizing Milei's policies when they are only 4 months old, like Y2Y inflation the guys is there for 4 months, how can you evaluate this 12 months policy ? Another BS thrown at us the poverty rate, like the guy is there for 4 months there is no way that he could be blamed for that since poverty rate was already sky rocketing and when he got into office it was already 50%. Also the currency devaluation BS, people were already using the devaluated currency, for example if you go to a restaurante there the exchange rate was 1 USD -> 1000 Pesos, what Milei actually did was remove the price control.

A lot of people are confused between inflation of the peso vs inflation of market prices. The value of the peso has inflated to 260% - And that's precisely according to Milei's plan because he devalued the peso and removed currency controls. The inflation in market prices has fallen to 10% - and that's what matters since people don't have to use controlled peso exchange rates.

1st, the whole devaluation of the peso was approached as a "Sinceramiento" (basically, coming clean about something). Milei said that if the government is not going to sell you USD at the official rate, the REAL rate became the illegal price (the Dolar Blue, the USD Black Market), The ramifications of that Sinceramiento are way too complex for a KZbin comment. So I won't be going into that. I just wanted to put more context because it sounds as if he just did it for the lols 2nd, the public image of Milei is NOT going down, I don't know where you got those numbers, but over here, metrics show that 75% think that they'll be financially better off by 2025 3rd the Labor market reform has been approved last week

Devaluation effectively means that Argentina increased its foreign dollar denominated debt by 50% (by some 180 billion) so you will have to produce and export 50% more. It is good news for the US capitalist who can now get Argentine's resources cheaper and just syphon back the money they paid through accumulated interest on Argentine's debt repayment. It is bad new for ordinary Argentinians who will have to work twice as hard only to remain poor and to have their effort sucked away by WallStreet. @@sargon4451 you have to look at PPP in Poland which is 49K - so the average Pole is about as wealthy in Poland as the average Western European is in their country. Taking Ireland as an example is ridiculous. It has one of the highest GDP per capita ratio's in the world (inflated though because of certain industries). Poland has gone from virtually zero to a GDP per head above Portugal and closing in on Italian and Spanish GDP per head. I think it's an amazing feat going from a communist broken system to this level in just over 30 years. Compare that with the low numbers of Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine or even Russia (which has oil and gas inflate the number). Congratulations Poland... well done!

@@squarebelgium PPP is manipulated to suit whatever is the agenda. Poland is NOT a cheap country. The price level is practically identical to that of Germany (keep in mind that Germany with $51k has more than double the GDP of Poland. The quality of public services in Poland is generally excellent (one should also remember than Poland got the most EU funds to upgrade its infrastructure in the past 25 years after Spain) but Poland is still a medium income country and is poorer on a per capita basis than Portugal (the latter is doing very well in recent years and it's GDP is $30k so basically Poland is 30% poorer than Portugal). Of the former Eastern block countries half a dozen are doing as well or a little better than Poland. They include Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Czechia, Slovakia and Slovenia. I put it simply for you folks, Infaltion is the AVERAGE of the increase on retails prices of a basquet/group of goods, wich is sustained during an X period. The tricky thing is many goods and services aren`t included (for example fruits and vegetables due their stacionality ) (A goverment CAN INCLUDE/EXCLUDE GOODS to modify % of inflation) I`m being redundant that is an average for the ones who, luckily, only know inflation from textbooks.

Devaluation of the official peso exchange rate, since dollarization and free-market of currency has made it such that multiple exchange rates including black market exchange rates for the peso are now legal, its not going to affect everyday Argentenians at all. People are simply going to trade in dollars, by the time debt has to be paid back most of the economy won't be run on the peso, at which point the peso can take any official exchange rate required through controls and then be used to pay back debt. Milei isn't doing dollarazation by the book, he knows that the people use dollars themselves and he simply wants to remove any restrictions on the use of dollars, thus without having to make the dollar an official currency of the nation, people will naturally use dollars and make it the de-facto currency. So you're telling me. That having someone who understands economics running your country, can make everyones lives better, and will make medical costs not fcking ridiculous? It will prevent food prices going up 10% per year? It will mean that The enshrined classes of Lawyers and Doctors don't have the strength to manipulate everyone and force us to pay exhorbitant prices for their services?? What about houses? A USA engineering student graduates college, and is unable to buy the average USA house until he is 70 years old. Are people able to buy houses in Argentina? What would the USA look like if the government wasn't involved in the medical cost bubble, lawyer cost bubble, housing bubbles??? Can we take Javier Milei to the USA?

Gotta cut away dead flesh to promote healing. Milei is essentially stripping away inefficient unsustainable government protected systems propped up by printing money (which has caused massive inflation). Then he is simultaneously courting western international investment to replace them with self sustaining supply and demand economics. Stick with it and the country will be in.a massively better place in the next decade, as evidenced by most of SE Asia where foreign investment has saw a massive boom in economic growth, spurring massive quality of life improvements for the lower and middle class of those countries. If you want even further evidence you can look at many Eastern European countries that went through the same process.

I think within the year life will get marginally better for the people of Argentina, and a solid foundation will be laid for the consistent improvement of the people’s lives over the next 5-10 years. If he can maintain support of the people long enough I think he will be able to fundamentally change the way the government operates, and the way the people feel about the government. Time will tell, but on a macro level he’s doing a bang up job. It just has to translate into gains in at least the medium term, or he will risk losing support for what he’s doing.

You got several things wrong, like the oppostite of what is actually happening. But the most obvious and easy to deduce is that the fact that prices have doubled or tripled in a few months, but the dolar exchange rate has remained the same, means that you, as a tourist with dollars, have less spending power. For example, in 2023 with one dollar you could buy 3 liters of milk (330 pesos each aprox), now you can buy only one liiter of milk with one dollar (it's 1200 pesos aprox). Prices have doubled or tripled but the dolar price went from 950 aprox to 1100 in these last 6 months. Another thing you got extremely wrong is that salaries in pesos have also increased drastically, and, as the dolar has remained stable, the salary in dollars has also increased. For example, a salary of 400k pesos in october 2023 (400 dollars) is now 756k pesos (756 dollars), it hasn't kept up with the increasing cost of living, but it has increased comparing it to the rest of the world.

No matter how tough things may be to the average Argentinian right now the basics appear very promising - if the Argentinians can stay politically stable and maintain a steady course.

In a couple years you will see the country on the right track and in far less debt and inflation. Be patient. His libertarian economic policies will work because nothing else has, can or will. The US will eventually realize it has to go down a similar rough road of drastic cuts and austerity or the American economy will plummet and crash permanently due to the debt crisis, the out-of-control spending, and the fact that neither party, Dem nor GOP, can reign in the enormous and ever-growing size of the US govt. bureaucracy.

Three more years to generate a budget surplus and put it to work, three more years to control inflation, three more years to attract foreign investment, and three more years to develop domestic industry. There's a very decent chance Milei's reforms turn things around for the Argentinian people long before then, even if it's a bumpy ride for the rest of 2024. Markets when given room to breath move a lot faster than people think. I predict Argentina will rebound in a big way in 2025, in time for the midterm elections. Even if it doesn't happen that fast, things should improve by 2027, and his party will be far more dominant then and again in 2029. Argentina will win the 2030s.
