Another BS thrown at us the poverty rate, like the guy is there for 4 months there is no way that he could be blamed for that since poverty rate was already sky rocketing and when he got into office it was already 50%. Also the currency devaluation BS, people were already using the devaluated currency, for example if you go to a restaurante there the exchange rate was 1 USD -> 1000 Pesos, what Milei actually did was remove the price control.

Devaluation of the official peso exchange rate, since dollarization and free-market of currency has made it such that multiple exchange rates including black market exchange rates for the peso are now legal, its not going to affect everyday Argentenians at all. People are simply going to trade in dollars, by the time debt has to be paid back most of the economy won't be run on the peso, at which point the peso can take any official exchange rate required through controls and then be used to pay back debt. Milei isn't doing dollarazation by the book, he knows that the people use dollars themselves and he simply wants to remove any restrictions on the use of dollars, thus without having to make the dollar an official currency of the nation, people will naturally use dollars and make it the de-facto currency. If he can maintain support of the people long enough I think he will be able to fundamentally change the way the government operates, and the way the people feel about the government. Time will tell, but on a macro level he’s doing a bang up job. It just has to translate into gains in at least the medium term, or he will risk losing support for what he’s doing.

Yes. Milei’s policy will work because that is the way capitalism works. Expect 50% of the population to stay poor forever. But he shouldn’t worry. Other countries with capitalist systems are fast declining to meet up with where Argentina will be in 10 years.

You got several things wrong, like the oppostite of what is actually happening. But the most obvious and easy to deduce is that the fact that prices have doubled or tripled in a few months, but the dolar exchange rate has remained the same, means that you, as a tourist with dollars, have less spending power. For example, in 2023 with one dollar you could buy 3 liters of milk (330 pesos each aprox), now you can buy only one liiter of milk with one dollar (it's 1200 pesos aprox). Prices have doubled or tripled but the dolar price went from 950 aprox to 1100 in these last 6 months. Another thing you got extremely wrong is that salaries in pesos have also increased drastically, and, as the dolar has remained stable, the salary in dollars has also increased. For example, a salary of 400k pesos in october 2023 (400 dollars) is now 756k pesos (756 dollars), it hasn't kept up with the increasing cost of living, but it has increased comparing it to the rest of the world.

Very interesting! No matter how tough things may be to the average Argentinian right now the basics appear very promising - if the Argentinians can stay politically stable and maintain a steady course. Anyway, the alternative is much worse. 100 years ago Argentina was seen as a future great power. That failed but I actually think Argentina has a chance to get back on track.

In order to fix a problem you must first know how bad it is. Decades of government subsidies means the people of Argentina don't understand the true state of their country's economy. I imagine Milei was hoping for the 'ripping off the bandaid' approach, but it hasn't quite worked out that way. Nevertheless, he is brave for confronting the country's problems head on and making no apologies for it.

Pobre Argentina, aumentando la desigualdad a niveles nunca vistos. Mas pobres, mas indigentes, menos derechos, menos seguridad social y laboral
@danwetalex4 ай бұрын
@pancraciopocaplata9194 ай бұрын
@danwetalex4 ай бұрын

In a couple years you will see the country on the right track and in far less debt and inflation. Be patient. His libertarian economic policies will work because nothing else has, can or will. The US will eventually realize it has to go down a similar rough road of drastic cuts and austerity or the American economy will plummet and crash permanently due to the debt crisis, the out-of-control spending, and the fact that neither party, Dem nor GOP, can reign in the enormous and ever-growing size of the US govt. bureaucracy.

Three more years to generate a budget surplus and put it to work, three more years to control inflation, three more years to attract foreign investment, and three more years to develop domestic industry. There's a very decent chance Milei's reforms turn things around for the Argentinian people long before then, even if it's a bumpy ride for the rest of 2024. Markets when given room to breath move a lot faster than people think. I predict Argentina will rebound in a big way in 2025, in time for the midterm elections. Even if it doesn't happen that fast, things should improve by 2027, and his party will be far more dominant then and again in 2029. Argentina will win the 2030s.
