Hello Dr Berry, please help. I'm 44 yr old woman. Diabetes runs like wildfire in my family. I tried keto for 3 weeks. I didn't lose weight. My carbs were under 20. I'm type 2 diabetic. I still needed insulin while on it. I got off keto, because I felt like it wasn't helping my glucose levels plus I didn't lose any weight at all. I don't understand?? How long could it take if it does work? I'm currently just on a low carb diet under 50 carbs a day. No white any foods. Also, do you believe in Intermittent fasting? My endocrinologist says its probably not good to do, it would cause my liver to release more sugar. Plus my thyroid is elevated and I'm afraid to take synthroid, I heard it causes weight gain and has other bad side effects. What else can I take for my thyroid issue (currently its 4.267) Its up and down from just over 4 to 7. I'm currently taking Lantus at night. I feel like cheese causes inflammation and maybe that was not helping me lose weight. If I go back on Keto, can I take protein powder to achieve the daily macros in the protein area? I appreciate your time.

@@BPb123 a lot of your questions are covered on many of Dr Berrys videos. I believe he would suggest carnivore, no protein powder. Avoid cheese since you question its inflamation effects on your health and please dont stop keto, ketovor or carnivore diet. It will take time. I am not speaking for Dr Berry, only, I have been studying all his videos and many other Drs who back up what Dr. Berry says. Please look up his other videos. My husband and I have some simular situations you have with tons of sucess on the carnivore and ketovor diet. Please be patient and take your carbs as close to zero as you can. I pray you are blessed with improved health with your efforts.

A R, I have been doing keto since July of 2021. If you have diabetes, like I had, you need to do real keto. I was diagnosed with non alcoholic fatty liver, besides the diabetes. I stayed as close to 0 carbs as possible. I was 234 lbs now 181, I lost 4 inches around my waist, no longer take 6 meds twice a day, only 2. My A1C is perfect no more diabetes and my liver shows no fibrosis and no scars. You cannot see results in 3 weeks, and you cannot do it alone. I have a support group that helps me along the way.

Our cardiologist told us that he had only one tool in his toolbox - statins - and keto would kill us. We fired that doctor. He admitted he was a T2D himself and also on a statin and when we complained we had side effects from the statin, he said we need to suffer if we want to live. And doctors wonder why we go to Dr. KZbin...

Keto has done wonders for me. I just had an angiogram because they found a small ischemia on recent tests and had to see a cardiologist, who was sure I was in big trouble based on my history of diabetes and high cholesterol. But I went on keto 2 1/2 months before the angiogram and got rid of the diabetes, and my blood pressure quickly went down to ideal, about 115/72. Also, before keto I could barely walk for two minutes and was gasping for breath; now I can easily walk for 20+ minutes. Then I had the angiogram and the doctor found my main arteries were "surprisingly open" and found a 30% blockage on a couple of small veins. So, he said no treatment was needed except to keep doing what I was doing with my lifestyle. Now, I know that keto made a huge difference to my heart because, aside from the changes I mentioned, right before I started keto I had extremely alarming symptoms of chest pain and my heart started was skipping beats constantly, all day long. I was scared shitless. Now all that has gone away. The doctor attributed my good results to good genes, but I think it was mostly keto.

I am a 73 old America. I’ve lived in Thailand for 13 years. I’ve been skinny all my life but at 68 I got arthritis in my wrists, inflammation in my knees. These two problems stopped me from running and exercising. I gained an extra 20k. I started watching Dr. Berry and other Keto advocates on KZbin. I thought give it a try what can it hurt. After three months my arthritis and my knee problem went away. By this time, I was OMAD carnivore. I knew I was in ketosis because my breath smelled like gasoline and I was mentally more alert. The urine strips showed very little so I did a 4-day distilled water with Himalayan salt fast and then went to the local hospital for a blood test. For 300 Thai baht or $10 I had my blood checked for ketone and sugar. My Glucose (FTP) was 78 and my Blood Ketone was 5.3. The doctor said that it was 10 time the normal level. It’s now over one year that I have been on keto/carnivore diet and I am going to go back to the hospital for a comprehensive blood analysis. What I am trying to say is if you are unhealthy for whatever reason don’t listen to the naysayers get the proof yourself by trying the Keto diet for 3 months and if you feel better continue. If you fall off the wagon and have a Big Mac and fries don’t think all is lost just get back on the diet and stick with it.

I guess your personal experience just reinforces the meaning of the old proverb "the proof of the pudding is in the eating ", and the proverb literally uses a high-carb food to make the point that the real value of something can be judged only from practical experience or results and not from appearance or theory. I've passed my youth and just like you, my reaction to a high-carb binge is that it has nasty long-lasting undesirable and painful after-effects and regrets. As of consequence you're more determined and convinced that a low-carb high-fat diet the only eating plan to live life sustainably and free of pain and suffering and staying in shape and living to a ripe old age.

Portland, Oregon. I’ve lost 45 pounds since January 6th. I bought loaves of net zero keto bread before lockdown. Sugar is above normal 20-25 grams but 30-70 grams per day has been okay. I’ve lost 22lbs while in quarantine with little to no exercise. I can tell that my body is trying to return to ketosis based on 2 days of headaches. I’m now 9lbs from moving from obese to overweight. As a man with controlled epilepsy, I don’t believe it’s easy to lose when on meds that slow my metabolism. If I can get to 200; Without being in the hospital for a month like in Asia. Karen another big reason is that the key element of the entire health care system , the Physicians can't think outside the box. just like Dr Berry was saying, most of them just " parrot what they have memorized". or unwilling or incapable of questioning or second guessing what they have learned in medical school. @Noah Ahmed, something to keep in mind is that those people say they eat keto. However, they are not in any controlled study and there is no way to know how they are actually eating behind the scenes. Only eating keto SOME of the time is actually worse than eating a western low fat diet. Their body never really gets fat adapted and therefore it doesn't know how to handle the larger amounts of fat they ingest during their "KETO" days. If your body never learns how to use the fat, it will start building up. There is no such thing as "Kinda keto" or "Their version" of keto. Also, plowing through foods labeled as keto friendly like keto bread and snacks are really bad for you. The ingredients are chalked full of crappy ingredients that cause inflammation and havoc on your body. Like social media, you can't believe everything people say.

When I first went Keto I got severe heart palpitations. I kept thinking it would pass but it got worse. I watched your videos and Dr. Bergs videos and did some research after listening into B vitamin deficiency. I ended up starting myself on a multi vitamin and a methylated B vitamin complex. The palpitations stopped immediately. I have since stopped the multi vitamin but every time I stop the methylated B I will start having the heart palpitations again. I have since also found out I have the MTHFR mutation so my body doesn't absorb or methylate nutrients well. From my reading it sounds like up to 40 % of the population probably has the MTHFR mutation so I often wonder how many of these people who end up having palpation or A-fib actually are having issues from a MTHFR mutation and poor absorption issues. I was Keto for 1 year and have been Carnivore for 5 months now and feel so much better. I can't imagine ever going back to eating high carb foods. Keto and Carnivore rocK! Thank you for your videos. Yes, from what I've learned, food that is dense in refined carbohydrates raises insulin levels to digest, and that starts making triglycerides which is a fat train to your fat cells. You can't use your own fat when your insulin is high.

"About the same as a mammogram." Ummm - for me, that is a good reason to NOT get a CAC score. There is evidence now that repeated mammograms can actually increase breast cancer risk in some people. Thermography is actually a better imaging system than mammograms. Let's move away from radioactive imaging and find a better way to check calcification in arteries, please.
@swanee22
@swanee22 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, but CAC is not something you have done every year -once every 5 - 10 years perhaps. I had it done last year and at my age (69) will probably never have it done again...but it's nice to know and can give one a certain peace of mind -my score was a 6, so it shows I probably chose my parents well, if nothing else.

The FDA has warned that there is no scientific data to demonstrate that thermography is an effective screening tool for any medical condition including early detection of breast cancer. The current recommdations as to how frequently a person should undergo mammography take the risks of mammo into consideration. X-rays are produced within an x-ray tube but mammos are not produced from "radioactive" material.

I also had a bad reaction to the Crestor they had me on so I tried Zetia and had the same reactions. I refuse to take a statin. @Catherine Mendel Electrolyte imbalance isn't normal. One thing that messes it up is coffee. You don't need vegetables to have normal electrolytes. I find if I cut out coffee or limit it I have no muscle cramps, and if I drink a lot of coffee I do. I think nutritional ketosis is great, but that doesn't require plants either. Paleomedicina is a great source for what I would consider the strongest evidence of proper nutritional ketosis to treat illness and disease in the context of no plants, no supplements, and preferably no medications (when possible).

26:20 I feel like doctors saying that they “don’t have enough time; too complicated” is a bit of an excuse. Or, at least, shows how little social communication skills they often have. Here’s an easy, simple, quick explanation: “cholesterol can act as a repair mechanism for the body, including the arteries. Inflammation causes damage to the heart and arteries, not cholesterol, cholesterol is just like the firemen to a fire. But that doesn’t mean the firemen CAUSED the fire or are harmful, even if they’re always present at the scene. You’d rather stop the fires to begin with, right?” There, 4 sentences that most people above the age of 12 can understand.

Just watched (July 2022) a program from the UK where they interviewed a nutritionist from Stanford who claims the Keto diet has a dire outcome. He did a 2 week study of randomized humans with one group doing the Mediterranean Diet and the other the Keto Diet. It showed mixed results at odds with each other. But his opinion the Keto would offer a bad outcome vs. the data from Mediterranean lifestyle. Apples vs Oranges. They compared Mediterranean peoples outcome equal to the randomized N. American people completely ignoring the Arctic Diet (Ketovore) of N. Am, N.Euro, N. Asian ancestry. The Helsinki Heart Study which many use for support of the controlled cholesterol for preventing heart disease never addressed why Inuit people had relatively low heart disease although their diet was only fat and meat.
