I was there just a few days ago. It felt like I'm in israel bc there are so many israelis. You have to understand that Koh Phangan isn't a hidden gem anymore but still a good place to chill.

The rental place did not ask for one only needed to show passport, but we carry one just in case

I live on KPG and yes of late the police are checking. But if you have an accident no licence insurance void.
