According to that Frenchy lad that designed it, it is a former pub that was converted to a cafe...because Lego dont do alcoholic drinks in the modern builds. You will see references to alcohol in medieval sets, barrels of beer and wine making with grapes, inns and taverns etc, but not in more modern sets. That is why they did not do pumps and bottles behind the bar, dare say plenty have already converted it back to a boozer though.

Yes, this looks like the best one they’ve released in years. So much tiny detail going on inside and out. Thanks for the review. Can’t wait to build it 👍

Nice review. I think the strong point to the set are the interior, a very nice looking interior, one of the best. The flooring, all the wee details and furniture builds are really good. The graphic design, signage on this set is also very well done. My biggest problem is the Tudor style. I love it but.... it doesn't fit at all with the rest of the modulars. The Parisien restaurant although very stylised, and French/decorative European in style, it fits well with the rest of the modulars. Tudor corner doesn't at all. This black and white timber style is very English, which is lovely but I personally don't think it works well with the other modulars. I always thought the modular range was meant to be a sort of European town, but years ago I watched a video by one of the designers and he clearly stated that their notion was a pre 1960's small American town feel. Hence the US flag on the firestation. The cinema is clearly a reference to the Chinese theatre in L.A. The Diner of course is peak Americana and was influenced by the capitol records building in L.A, there's loads more. I would still rather think of them as European, but it makes sense that it has more U.S sensibilities. So Tudor corner is very odd. I don't think i'll be putting it in my city. It can't easily be modified into something else, except perhaps the Haberdashery, that could be modified but the Tudor bit not so much. I'll probably get the set, but it'll not go in the city. What do you thin about the Tudor thing? Am I being a bit picky ha ha

For those of you who have never built sets by FO or Pantasy, this might look like a good or even "best modular". However, Lego is dead. Their quality, offerings and prices are totally off the charts - and not in a good way - 🤪. All there is to say: look around and find sets that are way better in quality and parts at less than half the price.

Interesting comment. I have watched Jangbricks Lego channel and been extremely impressed by the design and value of the FunWhole kits he has showcased, particularly as they include integrated lighting kits. The problem for me is that the perception of these none Lego sets appears to be that they are cheap and nasty knockoffs, and as such, you would struggle to sell them on for even half if the new price. Not fair, perhaps, but the existing market has a lot of inertia to overcome. Thanks for the feedback.

@@MrFaulkers I like Jangbricks a lot, and he is to be praised for introducing the Lego fanboys to sets by other companies. Pantasy and FO both use Gobricks parts, which are better in quality, color-consistency, and come without the constantly growing injection marks of Lego. In addition to lights, you also get loads of printed parts for less than half the price.
