First, Red Bull developed an extensive program of young drivers to fill their seats at their both teams. But then they hire outsiders like Perez for Red Bull and De Vries for Alpha Tauri. Next, Red Bull is the only company to have two teams in F1, one with the purpose of winning races and championships, and the other one to develop young drivers, nothing else. Then they sacked an underwhelming driver to put an experienced driver with the purpose to improve the junior team performance and to recover his old form. The problem isn't with Lawson, is Red Bull. They had a junior team but they don't know what to do with it, they keep an academy but they hire drivers outside of it in any time. If Max leaves Red Bull it wouldn't be a surprise if they hire a top driver from other team instead of giving chance to their junior drivers.

I believe the reason Danny R. was so unceremoniously removed was because they truly did try to give him every chance to hold his seat or show that he deserves Perez's spot. Horner tried everything to keep him because he loves Danny and they waited until the very last second to make the decision. If Danny crushed it in Singapore, I think he would have extended his stay, but he didn't crush it, he came in dead last (excluding the DNFs). So Helmut brought down the hammer to a decision that ultimately should have been made a while ago but it wasn't made because Danny's appeal in the sport , and with Horner.

Really it's a problem with Red Bull's structure. A team principal's responsibility is not just running the team, but also the very important commercial side of the business, getting the money, relating to sponsors, getting the marketing out there. Without Mateschitz being the final word, you basically have the commercial side of the business at war with the driver development side. I mean, yes Horner loves Danny, but of course he does, the whole point of Red Bull being in F1 is to sell drinks and Danny is a marketing gold mine. And then you have Marko, whose entire existence in the company is driver development, and he doesn't have any purpose if he's not constantly bringing in new talent. This situation wouldn't exist if there was one boss with one final say... they would have picked a direction and stuck with it for the season... either bring in the new guy and develop him or go with the old guy and ride the last bit of positive marketing with him as you can.
@Duval-In-The-Wall3 ай бұрын
It’s strange that’s how they did it, because Ricciardo has put together a great run from Canada-Zandvoort where he was the team’s lead driver and he even out-qualified his teammate 7 out of 8 times Remember he was a serious option for Red Bull, a lot of rumors saying Perez was out over the break. They changed their mind at the last moment, kept Perez, and with Lawson under contract for 6 races, that was the final blow for Ricciardo It played out like Andretti 93
@Calfeasance3 ай бұрын
I haven't seen a lot of people mention the fact that Danny did so poorly in Singapore was because he ended up with debris in his front brake on the first stint. Overheated his brakes, came in early to clear it, had to swap out his soft tyre stint which completely compromised his entire race as he lost any advantage on that tyre and was stuck out on dead tyres. Obviously he's had his chances but it was such a shit way for him to go out and terrible luck that feels even worse.

@LeJimster3 ай бұрын
We haven't seen the best out of Lawson in F1 yet. From what I remember in practice during 2023 he was quite conservative and took the slowly build himself up approach only really going for it in Qualifying, he often said he wasn't feeling that connection with the car and what the limits was. What I notice about Colapinto is that he's super aggressive and pushing hard in every session. It's a more Max Verstappen approach which is great if you get it right, but it can be costly for the team as Colapinto found out in Baku. Funny we all overlook it because his race results have been good. Anyway, I think the only reason they haven't announced Lawson for 2025 is because they haven't decided which team he will be driving in. Should he have some really good results he could get moved straight into the Red Bull seat alongside Max. I personally would prefer they gave him a proper run in VCARB with a little less pressure just so he can get a rythme, but I do think he would be an upgrade on Perez at this point.
@Smitticus2283 ай бұрын
With Colapinto, you're right his crash at Baku was overlooked. When you consider that he nabbed four points for the team and this allowed them to get ahead of Alpine in the WCC it's more understandable. Factor in Logan's all of Logan's smashes and crashes over the last season or so for a solitary point in total it becomes even more so. Fast and crashy is better than slow and crashy. Even better when the fast and crashy get more points - but no driver can afford to make a habit of crashing often.

I am a Danny Ric fan and was and still am devastated that he’s gone (especially in that manner 🤬) but I also like Lawson and think he’s well overdue for his chance in F1. I feel so bad for Liam for all the hate and negativity he’s been getting. Ricciardo fans need to remember this is Red Bull’s fault not Lawson’s and redirect their hate at the company and not the replacement driver. Liam should have gotten the seat instead of de Vries, to me that’s where Alpha Tauri messed up the first time with Liam. I don’t think Nyck should have been signed in the first place, one decent race does not warrant a race seat imo (especially when the team in question has plenty of drivers in their own academy to choose from!!). When Nyck was kicked out I do think Ricciardo was the right choice then cause the team needed a morale boost, Daniel’s personality certainly helps them there, and Yuki learned probably the most from Daniel out of the few teammates he’s had. Red Bull/Alpha Tauri had a second chance to set things right with the course of Liam’s career and, imo, Checo should have been dropped and Daniel should have been signed to Red Bull then freeing up the VCARB seat for Liam this year. with as much as RB went on about Daniel’s times at the infamous tyre test I do not understand how why they would gas him up and then not let him move up. I genuinely think if he hadn’t broken his wrist Daniel would be at Red Bull rn 😖 but that didn’t happen and DR got screwed. I hope whatever he does next is wildly successful so Red Bull can eat 💩 and I ~really~ hop Lawson does well so that his promotion and the subsequent domino effect of one of the most beloved drivers in modern F1 being kicked out of the sport proves to have been worth it in the end and not a mistake. if anyone actually read all of my novel here congratulations you’re probably an F1 nerd like me 😂

Been watching F1 now since 2018, I've seen a lot of talents in F2, Charles, George, Lando, Alex, Oscar, etc. One could argue Liam's performances weren't quite up to the same standards in his two f2 seasons. However, I believe this guy is the real deal. Franco imo has shown that you can do average to fairly good in the junior formulas and excel in F1. In contrast to De Vries for example. Liam went from almost winning DTM at 19 years old, finishing 3rd in F2 in 2022 and just missing out in Super Formula. That adaptability to just jump in anything and deliver is so important, especially in this current era of F1. He may not be the next Max or Lewis but he may just be the guy Red Bull needs for the future and will bring that fiery aggression and determination we've seen from Max. He has made the most of all the opportunities given to him and honestly, i have no doubts we'll see him in that second Red bull seat in Melbourne. Supporting the kiwi's from the UK!

It was his and his management’s choice, they wanted to keep his options open. His dad is loaded.

All you have to say about Liam is that he beat many many experienced GT3 drivers in DTM - in his first year. And that he beat many many experienced Super Formula drivers - in his first year. Both times coming second in the championship and really close to winning it.

What most people forget is that drivers can be heavily influenced by how a team operates. Many great drivers didn't succeed in F1 because they just hated to "go to work". And I think RedBull is a prime example of a team that clicks with you, or it doesn't with nothing in between. A career maker or breaker.

Our big brother was wronged. For how long and how well he did in the sport he deserved a sendoff and some respect. I hope my fellow Kiwi does well, but my faith in the team went further down after Singapore.

Did they really confirmed him for the 2025 Season? I thought he was managed to be only for the remaining 6 races and then see if he can make the jump to Red Bull.

A Seat for 2025 depends on the results of the last races in 2024. The problem for him is there are more candidates available in 2025.

You got to give Brendon Hartley some more respect, he's a four times world champion with two different manufacturers, but I guess in your world F1 is the only competition worth anything
@gordonritchie93412 ай бұрын
This video is clearly about F1 so his comments about Brendon Hartley must be only about his f1 racing Josh certainly acknowledges his great driving performances and achievements in motor racing other than F1

How many present F1 drivers have had to beg borrow and inspire their way through their junior years and haven’t been carrying bags of cash into their first drive ? Also coming from an insignificant market at the bottom of the world? The pressure Liam’s been under must have been immense ,and for him to perform the way he has is nothing short of incredible . Can’t wait to see him in a competitive car with a full time contract.🇳🇿

You should do a video on Mike Thackwell, that would be a good one... one of the greatest talents of his generation, but on the other hand a complete maverick who just would not conform to what was expected of him
